Hydrogen isotopic characteristics and their genetic relationships for individual n-alkanes in plants and sediments from Zoigê marsh sedimentary environment

To understand internal relations of their hydrogen isotopic compositions in typical marsh environment, we, using GC-IRMS analytical technique, measured the hydrogen isotopes of individual n-alkanes in the herbaceous plant, woody plant leaf, and sediments from Zoigê marsh in china. The results show significant differences in the hydrogen isotopic compositions of n-alkanes among the different kinds of plants and the different species in the same kind. δD values of n-alkanes in the herbaceous plants (from -254. to -184.) are lighter than those in woody plant leaf ( from -195‰ to -14.‰ ), and the hydrogen isotopic compositions of n-alkanes in K. tibetica P. are lighter than P. pratensis L. The mean δD values of n-alkanes in the sediments from Zoigê marsh reflect that they were derived from herbaceous plants, which is consistent with the peat samples being composed mainly of herbaceous plant remnants. The significant differences in hydrogen isotopic compositions of n-alkanes among the sedimentary samples are caused possibly by environment factors and the difference in input quantity of different herbaceous plants. A certain negative correlation exists between the δ13C and δD values of n-alkanes in the samples, and plant types can be distinguished using the cross plot of δD vs. δ13C values of n-alkanes in the plants. These data and recognitions provide scientific basis for hydrogen isotopic applied research of individual n-alkanes.

Application of an analytic hierarchy process to hydrocarbon accumulation coefficient estimation

The hydrocarbon accumulation coefficient is a key parameter in resources evaluation by genetic techniques. Methods of obtaining its value scientifically have always been an important factor influencing evaluation credibility. In this paper, the hydrocarbon accumulation system is evaluated quantitatively by establishing a hierarchy structure model based on an analytical hierarchy process. The hydrocarbon accumulation system of a higher exploration degree is selected as a calibration area and its hydrocarbon accumulation coefficient can be calculated using methods of hydrocarbon generation potential and reservoir-scale sequence. The hydrocarbon accumulation coefficient of a petroleum accumulation system can be gained by analogy of reservoir forming comprehensive evaluation results with the calibration area. The hydrocarbon accumulation coefficient of each petroleum accumulation system in the upper reservoir-forming combination of the Liaohe Western Sag can be obtained with this method. Practice shows that using the analytical hierarchy process to quantitatively evaluate the hydrocarbon accumulation system and then quantitatively predict the hydrocarbon accumulation coefficient decreases the influence of human factors in resources evaluation, and makes the resources assessment more objective and closer to the actual geological condition.

The concept of hydrocarbon accumulation in network was presented on basis of the overall analysis of the formation and evolution characteristics of the continental faulted basin and of the systemic re-search on the major controlling factors on the hydrocarbon accumulation. The hydrocarbon accumu-lation in network can be defined as hydrocarbon accumulation in a three-dimensional network system which is constituted by the hydrocarbon migration passages under multiple dynamics,following the hydrocarbon generation from source rocks. The research shows that the hydrocarbon accumulation in network is composed of four elements,i.e.,hydrocarbon source (source rock kitchen),hydrocarbon accumulation terminal (trap),network pathway connecting source and terminal (transporting system),and network potential driving hydrocarbon migration in the network pathway (migration dynamics). Compared with other networks,hydrocarbon accumulation in network has three basic characteristics: the irreversible geological process of material and information flow in the network; the loss of material and information in the flow process in the network; the multiple dynamics in the flow process. Interac-tion of all the elements in the geological process can be called hydrocarbon accumulation in network. There are three basic models for hydrocarbon accumulation in network,that is,hydrocarbon accumu-lation in the network source area,hydrocarbon accumulation in the network pathway,and hydrocarbon accumulation in the network terminal. The key in the application of the hydrocarbon accumulation models in network in practice is to confirm the major accumulation stage and the function range of the four elements controlling the hydrocarbon firstly,to predict the profitable accumulation region by su-perposition of the favorable areas confirmed by four elements consequently,and to evaluate the oil-bearing property of the trap as well as confirm drilling targets. The influences of water media on the hydrogen isotopic composition of organic-thermogenic natural gas were tested in three series of experiments on coal pyrolysis,with no water,deionized water(δD(HO)=-58‰),and seawater(δD(HO)=-4.H‰) added, *** experimental results show that the productivities of H and CO obviously increased under hydrous conditions and that the productivity of CH also remarkably increased in the high-evolution phase of hydrous *** was involved in the chemical reaction of hydrocarbon generation,and then the hydrogen isotopic composition of methane was *** is a linear correlation between the hydrogen isotopic composition of methane and its productivity,as reflected in the three series of *** the case of the same CH productivity,the hydrogen isotopic composition of the methane produced in anhydrous experiments was the heaviest,that of the methane produced in seawater-adding experiments came second, and that of the methane produced in deionized water-adding experiments was the *** hydrogen isotopic composition of natural gas/methane is affected by the following factors:1) the characteristics of hydrogen isotopic composition of organic matter in source rocks,2) the thermal evolution extent of organic matter,and 3) fossil-water media in the natural gas-generation *** experimental results show that the influence of the fossil-water medium in the natural gas-generation period was lower than that of the other factors.

Closed system gold-tube pyrolysis experiments were performed on a peat and two coals(TY:R = 0.51%;SX:R-0.94.) at temperatures ranging from 337 to 600℃and a pressure of 50 MPa with heating rates of 2 and/or 20℃/*** reaction residues were analyzed *** and chemical and isotopic compositions of the generated gases were also *** three samples had similar thermal evolution *** increasing heating temperature,vitrinite reflectances(VR) of the residues increased linearly from 0.72%to 4.50%.This increase was lesser for the sample with a higher hydrocarbon generation potential and at faster heating *** compositions are dominated by CO and CH throughout the experimental *** gas and CH yields gradually increase with pyrolysis temperature for all *** carbon isotopic compositions of CH generated from the peat are lighter than those from the ***δC(CH) values exhibit a generic evolution pattern which the initial CH is isotopically heavy,then becomes lighter at moderate temperatures,and finally becomes heavier *** produced from the samples at low heating rate has higher transformation ratio than that at high heating rate under the same temperature,so tends to be isotopically heavy after pyrolysis temperature of more than 4.8℃.

选择泥炭和褐煤进行热模拟试验并开展对比研究,目的是全面获得煤系有机质生烃特征。通过对草本泥炭和褐煤的热模拟实验液态产物饱和烃进行色谱—质谱分析得到,在泥炭和褐煤热模拟样品中均检测出丰富的甾族系列化合物,且以C29甾烷占优势。研究发现,随热模拟温度增高,C29甾烷相对含量减少,温度在350℃之后趋于稳定;而C27甾烷和C28甾烷相对含量具有增加的趋势,暗示了C29甾烷的去甲基效应。C2920S/(20S+20R)值和C29ββ/(ββ+αα)值可以判识样品是否成熟或未熟,是良好的成熟度指标。∑重排甾烷/∑规则甾烷值可以区分成样品成熟度。研究发现,在低演化阶段,泥炭和褐煤模拟曲线存在显著差异,而在高演化阶段,二者吻合较好。所以,对比研究泥炭和褐煤的地球化学特征,对认识煤系有机质生烃特征具有重要意义。

Thermal simulation of the formation and evolution of coalbed gas

Thermal simulation experiment of gas generation from the peat and the coals were performed using the high temperature and pressure apparatus, at temperature ranging from 336.8-600℃, a pressure of 50MPa and two heating rates of 20℃/h and 2℃/h, and the evolution and formation of coalbed gas components were studied. Results show that for the coals, the gaseous products are mainly composed of hydrocarbon gases. However, for the peat the content of hydrocarbon gases in gaseous products is lower than that of non-hydrocarbon components. In the generated hydrocarbon gases methane is predominant and heavy hydrocarbon gases (C2-5) are present in small amount. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide (CO2) predominates the generated non-hydrocarbon gases, and hydrogen (H2) and sul-furated hydrogen (H2S) are existent in trace amount. It is also observed that temperature is the main factor controlling the evolution of coalbed gas generation. With increasing vitrinite reflectance, methane rapidly increases, CO2 sightly increases, and C2-5 hydrocarbons first increase and then decrease. The peat and Shanxi formation coal have a higher generative potential of coalbed gases than coals and Taiyuan formation coal, respectively, reflecting the effect of the property of organic matter on the characteristics of coalbed gas component generation. In this study, it is found that low heating rate is favorable for the generation of methane, H2 and CO2, and the decomposition of C2-5 hydrocarbons. This shows that heating time plays an important controlling role in the generation and evolution of coalbed gases. The results obtained from the simulation experiment in the study of coalbed gases in natural system are also discussed.

The distributions of n-alkanes and their hydrogen isotopic composition(δD) in surface and core sediments from the saline Qinghai Lake were measured to assess whether or not biological source information was recorded in theδD values of *** results indicate that the n-alkane distributions between shallow water surface and core sediments were similar,and closer to those of terrestrial herbaceous plants from the Qinghai Lake surrounding areas,rather than the aquatic plants living in the lake. The n-alkanes in the surface and core sediments had similar meanδD values,ranging from-185‰to -133‰and-163‰to-14.‰,*** meanδD values of n-alkanes in the sediments showed that the even n-alkanes were heavier in D compared with the odd homologues.
