The high mountains of northern Pakistan comprise the western section of the Hindu KushKarakoram-Himalayas(HKH)region of South and Central *** are home to some rare and endangered species of fauna and flora which form an important link in the biodiversity of the region as a *** population and changing life styles in recent decades have brought unprecedented pressures on the biodiversity of this *** with the government,the non-governmental organizations(NGOs)and communities have a crucial role to play in conserving *** this regard,a number of undertakings to protect depleting species have been initiated by governmental and nongovernmental *** efforts are commendable and some have produced positive results,but many exist on a small scale and,with a few exceptions,are not *** paper reports on some of these initiatives of conserving big mammal species like the Astor markhor,Blue sheep,Himalayan brown bear,Himalayan ibex and Snow leopard,with the aim of collating and highlighting them,identifying gaps in conservation and suggesting a way forward so as to promote conservation projects on a larger and more sustainable basis.

Upper gastrointestinal(UGI) tract involvement of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) is commonly seen in pediatric patients. Upper endoscopy is included in the routine workup of children with suspected IBD to enhance the diagnosis and management of these patients. Currently, childhood IBD is classified into ulcerative colitis(UC), atypical UC, Crohn's disease(CD) and IBD *** confirmation of UGI tract involvement, in particular the presence of epithelioid(non-caseating) granulomas, is helpful in confirming the diagnosis of IBD and its classification. Herein, we reviewed selected IBD-associated UGI tract manifestations in children. Lymphocytic esophagitis, seen predominantly in CD,is histologically characterized by increased intraepithelial lymphocytes(> 20 in one high-power field) in a background of mucosal injury with absence of granulocytes. Focally enhanced gastritis is a form of gastric inflammation in pediatric IBD marked by a focal lymphohistiocytic pit inflammation with or without granulocytes and plasma cells in a relatively normal background gastric mucosa. Duodenal inflammation seen in children with IBD includes cryptitis,villous flattening, increased intraepithelial lymphocytes, and lamina propria eosinophilia. Finally, epithelioid granulomas not associated with ruptured gland/crypt are a diagnostic feature of CD. The clinicopathologic correlation and differential diagnosis of each microscopic finding are discussed. Clinicians and pathologists should be cognizant of the utility and limitations of these histologic features.

Effect of ozone injection on the long-term performance and microbial community structure of a VOCs biofilter

For biofilters treating waste gases containing volatile organic compounds（VOCs）, biomass accumulation is a common problem which will induce bed clogging and significant decrease in VOCs removal efficiency during long-term operation. In this study, ozone injection was developed as a biomass control strategy, and its effects on the biofilter performance and the microbial community structure were investigated in long-term operation. Two biofilters,identified as BF1 and BF2, were operated continuously for 160 days treating gaseous toluene under the same conditions, except that 200 mg/m^3 ozone was continuously injected into BF1 during days 45–160. During the operation period, ozone injection did not change the toluene removal efficiency, while the pressure drop of BF1 with ozone injection was significantly lowered compared with BF2. The wet biomass accumulation rate of BF1 was 11 g/m^3/hr, which was only46% of that in BF2. According to the carbon balance result, ozone injection also increased the toluene mineralization rate from 83% to 91%, which could be an important reason for the low biomass accumulation. The PMA-q PCR result indicated that ozone injection increased the microbial viability of the biofilm. The high-throughput sequencing result also revealed that the dominant phyla and genera were not changed significantly by ozone injection, but some ozonetolerant genera such as Rhodanobacter, Dokdonella and Rhodococcus were enhanced by ozone exposure. All the results verified that ozone injection is capable of sustaining the long-term performance of biofilters by lowering the biomass accumulation, increasing the microbial viability and changing the microbial community structure.

Mobile WiMAX(worldwide interoperability for microwave access) air interface adopts orthogonal frequency division multiple access(OFDMA) as multiple access technique for its uplink(UL) and downlink(DL) to improve the multipath *** OFDMA based networks,like mobile WiMAX,experience the problem of high peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR).The high PAPR increases the complexity of analog-to-digital(A/D) and digital-to-analog(D/A) convertors,and also reduces the efficiency of RF high-power-amplifier(HPA).In this work,a new zadoff-chu matrix transform(ZCMT) precoding based random interleaved orthogonal frequency division multiple access(OFDMA) system was proposed for PAPR reduction in mobile WiMAX *** system is based on precoding the constellation symbols with the ZCMT precoder before subcarrier *** PAPR of proposed system is analyzed with the root-raised-cosine(RRC) pulse shaping to keep out of band radiation low and meet the transmission spectrum mask *** results show that the proposed system has better PAPR gain than the hadamard transform(WHT) precoded random interleaved OFDMA systems and the conventional random interleaved OFDMA ***-error-rate(SER) performance of the system is also better than the conventional random interleaved OFDMA systems and the random interleaved OFDMA systems with *** good improvement in PAPR significantly reduces the cost and the complexity of the transmitter.

This paper describes the preparation of a membrane of polyacrylonitrile(PAN)and its corresponding membrane coated with polyaniline(PANI)for the adsorption of heavy metal *** electron microscopy micrographs revealed that all the membranes exhibited nanofibrous *** prepared membranes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).The prepared membranes were used as an adsorbent for hazardous heavy metal ions Pb^(2+) and Cr_(2)O^(2-)_(7).The adsorption capacity and the removal efficiency of the membranes were examined as function of the initial adsorbate concentration and pH of the *** membranes with PANI showed better adsorption performance and their direct current(DC)conductivities were correlated to heavy metal ion *** isotherms were also performed,and the adsorption process was tested according to the Langmuir and Freundlich *** regeneration and reuse of the prepared membranes to re-adsorb heavy metal ions were also *** enhancement in adsorption performance and reusability of PANI-coated membranes in comparison with non-coated ones is fully *** results show that the maximum adsorption capacities of lead and chromate ions on the PANI-coated membranes are 290.12 and 1202.53 mg/g,respectively.

It is common knowledge that Yarmouk River Basin(YRB)is shared between Jordan and *** of YRB trans-boundary water resources is attracting increasing interest because it is a strategic water resource for the riparian ***,lack of sharing information regarding hydrological flows and basin’s water management between partners’countries makes it difficult to distinguish between natural and man-made factors affecting the water ***,this study seeks to address and assess the main on-site changes that exert on *** technique and arithmetic equations were combined to carry out an assessment of the changes on water resources in ***,information and field measurements of the basin were aggregated,compiled and presented to determine the extent of changes during the period *** findings showed that precipitation amount in the basin significantly declined during the period 1980-2020 in particularly after the year *** rate of groundwater was 550 x 103 m3/a,exceeding the basin’s safe *** down of static groundwater level over time approached the value of-3.2 m/a due to the over abstraction in the aquifer ***,the evaporation rate reached more than 99%in some regions in the ***,the number of private wells has increased from 98 wells in 1980 to 126 wells in 2020,showing the excessive extraction of *** findings indicate that the study area is subjected to a considerable groundwater depletion in the near future due to extensive abstraction,continuous drilling of illegal wells and decreased annual precipitation under the shadow of the rapid population growth and continuous influx of ***,decision makers-informed scenarios are suggested in the development of water resource portfolios,which involves the combination of management and infrastructural actions that enhance the water productivity of the *** studies are recommended to evaluate the on-sit

Dear editor,Sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors(SGLT2I)reduce the majority of reabsorption of glucose in the proximal tubules,which reduces blood glucose levels by allowing excretion of excess glucose in the urine.[1]By inhibiting glucose reabsorption,they increase the osmotic pressure of urine resulting in diuresis which can cause a reduction of blood pressure.[2]Fortunately,as these drugs are not directly implicated in altering glucose metabolism or causing insulin secretion,SGLT2I monotherapy does not result in severe hypoglycemia.
