Role of serotonin in development of esophageal and gastric fundal varices

AIM:To determine the effect of free serotonin concentrations in plasma on development of esophageal and gastric fundal varices. METHODs:This prospective study included 33 patients with liver cirrhosis and 24 healthy controls. Ultrasonography and measurement of serotonin concentration in plasma were carried out in both groups of subjects. The upper fiber panendoscopy was performed only in patients with liver cirrhosis. REsULTs:The mean plasma free serotonin levels were much higher in liver cirrhosis patients than in healthy controls (219.0 ± 24.2 nmol/L vs 65.4 ± 18.7 nmol/L,P s no significant correlation be-tween serotonin concentration in plasma and the size of the esophageal varices according to spearman coefficient of correlation (rs =-0.217,P > 0.05). However,the correlation of plasma serotonin concentration and gastric fundal varices was highly significant (rs =-0.601,P sION:Free serotonin is significant in pathogenesis of portal hypertension especially in development of fundal varices,indicating the clinical value of serotonergic receptor blockers in these patients.

The paper presents the formulation and approximation of a static thermoelasticity problem that describes bilateral frictional contact between a deformable body and a rigid foundation. The friction is in the form of a nonmonotone and multivalued law. The coupling effect of the problem is neglected. Therefore, the thermic part of the problem is considered independently on the elasticity problem. For the displacement vector, we formulate one substationary problem for a non-convex, locally Lipschitz continuous functional representing the total potential energy of the body. All problems formulated in the paper are approximated with the finite element method.

Influences of Pr and Ta doping concentration on the characteristic features of FTO thin film deposited by spray pyrolysis

The Pr and Ta separately doped FTO（10 at.% F incorporated sn O2） films are fabricated via spray pyrolysis. The microstructural, topographic, optical, and electrical features of fluorine-doped TO（FTO） films are investigated as functions of Pr and Ta dopant concentrations. The x-ray diffraction（XRD） measurements reveal that all deposited films show polycrystalline tin oxide crystal property. FTO film has（200） preferential orientation, but this orientation changes to（211） direction with Pr and Ta doping ratio increasing. Atomic force microscopy（AFM） and scanning electron microscopy（sEM） analyses show that all films have uniform and homogenous nanoparticle distributions. Furthermore, morphologies of the films depend on the ratio between Pr and Ta dopants. From ultraviolet-visible（UV-Vis） spectrophotometer measurements, it is shown that the transmittance value of FTO film decreases with Pr and Ta doping elements increasing. The band gap value of FTO film increases only at 1 at.% Ta doping level, it drops off with Pr and Ta doping ratio increasing at other doped FTO films. The electrical measurements indicate that the sheet resistance value of FTO film initially decreases with Pr and Ta doping ratio decreasing and then it increases with Pr and Ta doping ratio increasing. The highest value of figure of merit is obtained for 1 at.% Ta- and Pr-doped FTO film. These results suggest that Pr- and Ta-doped FTO films may be appealing candidates for TCO applications.

This paper proposes the day-ahead electricity price forecasting using the artificial neural networks （ANN） and weighted least square （WLs） technique in the restructured electricity markets. Price forecasting is very important for online trading, e-commerce and power system operation. Forecasting the hourly locational marginal prices （LMP） in the electricity markets is a very important basis for the decision making in order to maximize the profits/benefits. The novel approach pro- posed in this paper for forecasting the electricity prices uses WLs technique and compares the results with the results obtained by using ANNs. To perform this price forecasting, the market knowledge is utilized to optimize the selection of input data for the electricity price forecasting tool. In this paper, price forecasting for Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland （PJM） interconnec- tion is demonstrated using the ANNs and the proposed WLs technique. The data used for this price forecasting is obtained from the PJM website. The forecasting results obtained by both methods are compared, which shows the effectiveness of the proposed forecasting approach. From the simulation results, it can be observed that the accuracy of prediction has increased in both seasons using the proposed WLs technique. Another important advantage of the proposed WLs technique is that it is not an iterative method.

Accurate short-term prediction of overhead line(OHL)transmission ampacity can directly affect the efficiency of power system operation and *** overcstiniation of the dynamic thermal line rating(DTLR)can lead to the lifetime degradation and failure of OHLs,safety hazards,*** paper presents a secure yet sharp probabilistic model for the hour-ahead prediction of the *** security of the proposed DTLR limits the frequency of DTLR prediction exceeding the actual *** model is based on an augmented deep learning architecture that makes use of a wide range of predictors,including historical climatology data and latent variables obtained during DTLR ***,by introducing a customized cost function,the deep neural network is trained to consider the DTLR security based on the required probability of exceedance while minimizing the deviations of the predicted DTLRs from the actual *** proposed probabilistic DTLR is developed and verified using recorded experimental *** simulation results validate the superiority of the proposed DTLR compared with the state-of-the-art prediction models using well-known evaluation metrics.
