The design of alloys for use in gas turbine engine blades is a complex task that involves balancing multiple objectives and *** alloys must be ductile at room temperature and retain their yield strength at high temperatures,as well as possess low density,high thermal conductivity,narrow solidification range,high solidus temperature,and a small linear thermal expansion *** Integrated Computational Materials engineering(ICMe)methods are not sufficient for exploring combinatorially-vast alloy design spaces,optimizing for multiple objectives,nor ensuring that multiple constraints are *** this work,we propose an approach for solving a constrained multi-objective materials design problem over a large composition space,specifically focusing on the Mo-Nb-Ti-V-W system as a representative Multi-Principal element Alloy(MPeA)for potential use in next-generation gas turbine *** approach is able to learn and adapt to unknown constraints in the design space,making decisions about the best course of action at each stage of the *** a result,we identify 21 Pareto-optimal alloys that satisfy all *** proposed framework is significantly more efficient and faster than a brute force approach.

PIN1 is a peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerase that binds and catalyses isomerization of the specific motif comprising a phosphorylated serine or threonine residue preceding a proline(p Ser/Thr-Pro) in proteins. PIN1 can therefore induce conformational and functional changes of its interacting proteins that are regulated by proline-directed serine/threonine phosphorylation. Through this phosphorylation-dependent prolyl isomerization, PIN1 fine-tunes the functions of key phosphoproteins(e.g., cyclin d1, survivin, β-catenin and x-protein of hepatitis B virus) that are involved in the regulation of cell cycle progression, apoptosis, proliferation and oncogenic transformation. PIN1 has been found to be over-expressed in many cancers, including human hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). It has been shown previously that overexpression of PIN1 contributes to the development of HCC invitro and in xenograft mouse model. In this review, we first discussed the aberrant transcription factor expression, miR NAs dysregulation, PIN1 gene promoter polymorphisms and phosphorylation of PIN1 as potential mechanisms underlying PIN1 overexpression in cancers. Furthermore, we also examined the role of PIN1 in HCC tumourigenesis by reviewing the interactions between PIN1 and various cellular and viral proteins that are involved in β-catenin, NOTCH, and PI3K/Akt/mT OR pathways, apoptosis, angiogenesis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Finally, the potential of PIN1 inhibitors as an anti-cancer therapy was explored and discussed.

Background: excessive vertical impacts at landing are associated with common running injuries. Two primary gait-retraining interventions aimed at reducing impact forces are transition to forefoot strike and increasing cadence. The objective of this study was to compare the shortand long-term effects of 2 gait-retraining interventions aimed at reducing landing ***: A total of 39 healthy recreational runners using a rearfoot strike and a cadence of 170 steps/min were randomized into cadence(CAd) or forefoot strike(FFS) groups. All participants performed 4 weeks of strengthening followed by 8 sessions of gait-retraining using auditory feedback. Vertical average load rates(VALR) and vertical instantaneous load rates(VILR) were calculated from the vertical ground reaction force curve. Both cadence and foot strike angle were measured using 3d motion analysis and an instrumented treadmill at baseline and at 1 week,1 month, and 6 months post ***: ANOVA revealed that the FFS group had significant reductions in VALR(49.7%) and VILR(41.7%), and changes were maintained long term. Foot strike angle in the FFS group changed from 14.2° dorsiflexion at baseline to 3.4° plantarflexion, with changes maintained long term. The CAd group exhibited significant reduction only in VALR(16%) and only at 6 months. Both groups had significant and similar increases in cadence at all follow-ups(CAd, +7.2% to 173 steps/min;and FFS, +6.1% to 172 steps/min).Conclusion: Forefoot strike gait-retraining resulted in significantly greater reductions in VALR and similar increases in cadence compared to cadence gait-retraining in the short and long term. Cadence gait-retraining resulted in small reductions in VALR at only the 6-month follow-up.

Trace elements migrating from tailings to rock varnish laminated sediments in an old mining region from Nelson,Nevada,USA

The dispersion and influence of soluble and particulate trace elements(Tes) present in the materials from abandoned mines is an imminent problem on terrestrial and aquatic *** goal of this research is to provide a broader view of such transport,assessing particle size distribution and Te interactions(e.g.,scavenging) with mine tailings and locally derived sediments transported by water in arid *** grains from wash sediment were collected from a dry ephemeral wash in Nelson,Nevada where the Techatticup Mine and Mill worked between 1850 and *** were evaluated to determine the association and behavior of certain metals and metalloids including aluminum,arsenic,barium,cadmium,copper,chromium,iron,manganese,lead,selenium,vanadium,and zinc to rock varnish laminated *** show that some metals and metalloids were more concentrated on larger particles whereas others indicated the opposite *** example,As was greatest on silt fractions and least on coarse fractions,while Se was detected only on ***,Cu,Fe,Mn,Pb,and Zn concentrations all increased with decreasing particle size(silt> sand> coarse),whereas Al,Ba,and V showed the opposite trend(silt d e).The enrichment factor(eF) of Cu,Zn,Pb,As,and Se were lower in mine tailing sediment treated with wash than those obtained for source *** in treated wash sediment samples,the high eFs of Ba,Cr,V,and Mn suggested a possible greater affinity of these metals to the Al,Fe,and Mn oxides from the RV *** data found in this study show that transport of contaminated sediments in arid regions could lead to the enrichment of some Tes in downgradient areas from source materials.

Glycidol is a common lipid-derived foodborne toxicant mainly presents in refined oils and related *** endothelial cells may be potential targets of the deleterious effects associated with glycidol *** human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVeCs),we found that glycidol treatment promoted endothelialto-mesenchymal transition(endMT)at a lower concentration(0.5 mmol/L),while induced apoptosis and inflammation at a higher concentration(1 mmol/L).These harmful effects were achieved by the activation of NF-κB/MAPK signaling pathway and were mediated by reactive oxygen species(ROS).In addition,the protective potential of 6-C-(e-2-fluorostyryl)naringenin(6-CeFN)against glycidol was evaluated and compared with *** pre-treated with 6-CeFN,but not naringenin,displayed resistance to endothelial dysfunction caused by glycidol.

The electrochemical behaviour of Ti(Ⅲ) and Ti(Ⅱ) in LiCl-KCl eutectic system has been studied by cyclic voltammetry and *** cathodic reduction of Ti(Ⅲ) and Ti(Ⅱ) has been found to be stepwise:Ti(Ⅲ)+e=Ti(Ⅱ),Ti(Ⅱ)+2e =*** reductions are diffusion *** an equilibrium between Ti subchlorides and excess metallic Ti was estab- lished by reaction 2TiCl_3+Ti=3TiCl_2 in LiCl-KCl melt at 475℃,then the average valence of Ti is less than *** this system the diffusion coefficient for Ti(Ⅱ) ion was calculated as d=2.5×10^(-5)cm^2·s^(-1).The chronoamperometric studies showed that the initial nucleation stage and growth of nuclei were observed when Ti ions were electrodeposited on low carbon steel substrate. The investigation of nucleation of metal may provide the method for obtaining smooth,coherent and adherent deposits of titanium.

evaluating the effects of novel drugs on appropriate tumor models has become crucial for developing more effective therapies that target highly tumorigenic and drug-resistant cancer stem cell(CSC)*** this study,we demonstrate that a subset of cancer cells with CSC properties may be enriched into tumor spheroids under stem cell conditions from a non-small cell lung cancer cell *** these CSC-like cells with gemcitabine alone and a combination of gemcitabine and the novel CHK1 inhibitor PF-00477736 revealed that PF-00477736 enhances the anti-proliferative effect of gemcitabine against both the parental and the CSC-like cell ***,the CSC-like cells exhibited resistance to gemcitabine-induced ***,the spheroid-forming CSC-like cells may serve as a model system for understanding the mechanism underlying the drug resistance of CSCs and for guiding the development of better therapies that can inhibit tumor growth and eradicate CSCs.
