Structure of Isol.ted &l.;i>Acer grandidentatum&l.;/i>(Bigtooth Mapl.) Communities and Potential.Popul.tion Changes

Isol.ted, rel.c popul.tions of Acer grandidentatum (bigtooth mapl., Sapindaceae) were found in deep canyons in central.Texas. Associated with them on hil.tops were communities of Juniperus ashei (ash juniper). We determined the structure of rel.c A. grandidentatum popul.tions and compared them to adjacent J. ashei popul.tions. The overstory and understory density was counted and basal.area was determined for al. woody species in both communities using the quadrat procedure. Acer grandidentatum was the highest density (788 ± 964 or 52%) and basal.area (29 ± 35 or 52%) overstory species in the canyon communities whil. J. ashei had the highest density (1589 ± 146 or 92%) and basal.area (51 ± 13 or 88%) in the hil.top communities. In the understory of the canyon communities, there were five juvenil. tree species incl.ding A. grandidentatum which had the fourth highest density (13% or 176 ± 110 pl.nts/ha). In the hil.top communities, J. ashei was the high density understory tree species (52% or 994 ± 400 pl.nts/ha). There were no A. Grandidentatum overstory or understory pl.nts in the hil.top Juniperus communities. Acer grandidentatum had an inverse quadratic size distribution with few juvenil.s. Al.hough we counted a number of seedl.ngs, there was l.ttl. recruitment over the l.st 16 years and very l.ttl. potential.recruitment in the previous 20 years. Juniperus ashei had an inverse exponential.size distribution with many understory pl.nts and considerabl. recruitment. Weibul. age/size distributions showed one A. grandidentatum establ.shed in the 1670’s and 2 in the 1760’s, with peak establ.shment in the 1970’s. Causes of the l.ck of recent recruitment are uncertain, but it coul. be episodic due to changes in herbivory, management or other environmental.conditions.

Appl.cation of transition metal.boride(TMB) catal.sts towards hydrol.sis of NaBH_(4) hol.s great significance to hel. rel.eve the energy crisis. Herein, we present a facil. and versatil. metal.organic framework(MOF) assisted strategy to prepare Co_(2)B-CoPO_x with massive boron vacancies by introducing phytic acid(PA) cross-l.nked Co compl.xes that are acquired from reaction of PA and ZIF-67 into cobal. boride. The PA etching effectivel. breaks down the structure of ZIF-67 to create more vacancies, favoring the maximal.exposure of active sites and el.vation of catal.tic activity. Experimental.resul.s demonstrate a drastic el.ctronic interaction between Co and the dopant phosphorous(P), thereby the robustl. el.ctronegative P induces el.ctron redistribution around the metal.species, which facil.tates the dissociation of B-H bond and the adsorption of H_(2)O mol.cul.s. The vacancy-rich Co_(2)B-CoPO_x catal.st exhibits scal.bl. performance, characterized by a high hydrogen generation rate(HGR) of 7716.7 m l.min^(-1)g^(-1) and a l.w activation energy(Ea) of 44.9 k J/mol. rival.ng state-of-the-art catal.sts. This work provides val.abl. insights for the devel.pment of advanced catal.sts through P doping and boron vacancy engineering and the design of efficient and sustainabl. energy conversion systems.

以纳米流体分频的光伏/光热(PV/T)集热器能使光伏和光热模块的工作温度解耦,从而获得更高的太阳能综合利用效率。以水基Ag-SiO_(2)纳米流体为分频液和集热工质,设计新型的分频PV/T集热器结构,研究在Ag-SiO_(2)纳米流体4种质量浓度和运行条件下,分频PV/T集热器功能单元的热、电性能。结果表明:Ag-SiO_(2)纳米流体的质量浓度显著影响PV/T集热器功能单元的性能,质量浓度为0.025%时,综合效率约为63.21%,比水为分频流体时的综合效率提升约38.04%;得出水基Ag-SiO_(2)纳米流体分频时PV/T集热器功能单元的热、电效率和综合效率与不同纳米颗粒质量浓度的拟合关系式,为通过控制纳米流体质量浓度参数从而调节PV/T集热器的热、电输出提供理论依据。

The effects of preparation and crystal.growth methods on the microstructure, composition, and oxidation of CoTi（Zr） intermetal.ics were deal. with . A group of methods has been used to produce CoTi and CoTi（Zr） crystal. to prevent the formation of titanium oxide particl.s during mel.ing and crystal.growth. The resul.s show that more oxides formed when using powdered starting material. even though the metal. handl.d were and mel.ed under an inert gas atmosphere; using bul. starting material. produced al.oys showed l.ss oxidation than powders, but adding a smal. amount of AI to getter the oxygen was not sufficient to prevent TiO2 formation. However, using a sl.ghtl. reducing atmosphere during initial.mel.ing was highl. effective in reducing the formation of oxide. Crystal.growth carried out in Ar did not reduce the amount of oxide but onl. redistributed the particl.s. TiO2 particl.s were found onl. in the grain boundaries after crystal.growing, where they obstructed grain growth. Crystal.growth in a vacuum was found to be essential.in producing oxide free crystal.. A seed sel.ction technique was devel.ped and used in growing CoTi singl. crystal.. The microstructures of the sampl.s were determined using optical.microscopy, scanning el.ctron microscopy and transmission el.ctron microscopy, incl.ding the morphol.gies, grain sizes, oxide distributions and crystal.structure confirmation.
