Ferrotitanium slag(FS)is a waste slag produced during the smelting of ferrotitanium alloys by thermite *** alumina content is high and can be used as alumina raw *** runner castables containing different amounts of FS were prepared and *** results show that the introduction of FS is beneficial to the sintering of the castables *** the FS concentration is 11.2 wt.%,the aggregate and matrix of the castables sample have a good combination,and the mechanical strength of the Al_(2)O_(3)–SiC–C castable reaches a maximum at room ***,excessive introduction of FS generates a large amount of anorthite phase,which reduces the mechanical strength of the Al_(2)O_(3)–SiC–C castable at room *** addition,the high-melting phase CaTiO_(3)is formed in FS,which has good mechanical ***,the cracks of FS are reduced,and the combination between phases is closer,thus significantly improving the hot modulus of rupture of the *** the FS concentration is not above 33.6 wt.%,the castables show good slag *** TiO_(2)in FS is transformed into TiC by carbothermal reaction,which is enriched at the boundary and prevents further reaction of the slag.

Permafrost and its spatiotemporal variation considerably influence the surface and sub-surface hydrological processes,biogeochemical cycles,fauna and flora growth and cold region engineering projects in the Three-River Source Region(TRSR),Qinghai–Tibet ***,the dynamics of permafrost over a relatively long term duration(e.g.>100 years)in the TRSR is not well ***,the spatial and temporal variations of the temperature at the top of the perennially frozen/unfrozen ground(TTOP),active layer thickness(ALT)in permafrost regions and the maximum depth of frost penetration(MDFP)in the seasonally frozen ground of the TRSR during 1901–2020 were simulated using the TTOP model and Stefan equation driven by the widely used reanalysis Climatic Research Unit 4.05 *** revealed that the permafrost in the TRSR over the past 120 years did not degrade monotonically but experienced considerable fluctuations in area with the decadal oscillations of climate warming and cooling:shrinking from 263.9×10^(3)km^(2)in the 1900s to 233.3×10^(3)km^(2)in the 1930s,expanding from 232.3×10^(3)km^(2)in the 1940s to 260.9×10^(3)km^(2)in the 1970s and shrinking again from 254.1×10^(3)km^(2)in the 1980s to 228.9×10^(3)km^(2)in the *** regional average TTOP increased from−1.34±2.74℃in the 1910s to−0.48±2.69℃in the 2010s,demonstrating the most noticeable change for the extremely stable permafrost(TTOP3.0 m by 12%from 1901 to ***,minor changes were observed for the regional average MDFP,probably due to the increase in the area proportion of MDFP3.5 m(owing to the transformation of permafrost to seasonally frozen ground)by 7.39%and 4.77%,*** findings can facilitate an in-depth understanding of permafrost dynamics and thus provide a scientific reference for eco-environment protection and s

We report the discovery of a peculiar X-ray transient,EP240408a,by Einstein Probe （EP） and follow-up studies made with EP,Swift,NICER,GROND,ATCA and other ground-based multiwavelength *** new transient was first detected with Wide-field X-ray Telescope （WXT） on board EP on April 8th,2024,manifested in an intense yet brief X-ray flare lasting for *** flare reached a peak flux of 3.9×10-9erg cm-2s-1in 0.5-4 ke V,～300 times brighter than the underlying X-ray emission detected throughout the *** and more precise follow-up observations by EP/FXT,Swift and NICER confirmed the finding of this new *** X-ray spectrum is non-thermal in 0.5-10 ke V,with a power-law photon index varying *** X-ray light curve shows a plateau lasting for ～4 d,followed by a steep decay till becoming undetectable ～10 d after the initial *** on its temporal property and constraints from previous EP observations,an unusual timescale in the range of 7-23 d is found for EP240408a,which is intermediate between the commonly found fast and long-term *** counterparts have been found in optical and near-infrared,with the earliest observation at 17 h after the initial X-ray detection,suggestive of intrinsically weak emission in these *** demonstrate that the remarkable properties of EP240408a are inconsistent with any of the transient types known so far,by comparison with,in particular,jetted tidal disruption events,gamma-ray bursts,X-ray binaries and fast blue optical *** nature of EP240408a thus remains an *** suggest that EP240408a may represent a new type of transients with intermediate timescales of the order of～10 *** detection and follow-ups of more of such objects are essential for revealing their origin.

Azoospermia, cryptozoospermia and necrospermia can markedly decrease the ability of males to achieve pregnancy in fertile females. However, patients with these severe conditions still have the option to be treated by intracytoplasmic sperm injection （ICSI） to become biological fathers. This study analyzed the fertilization ability and the developmental viabilities of the derived embryos after ICSI treatment of the sperm from these patients compared with in vitro fertilization （IVF） treatment of the proven-fertile donor sperm on sibling oocytes as a control. On the day of oocyte retrieval, the number of sperm suitable for ICSI collected from two ejaculates or testicular sperm extraction was lower than the oocytes, and therefore, excess sibling oocytes were treated by IVF with donor sperm. From 72 couples （73 cycles）, 1117 metaphase Ⅱ oocytes were divided into 512 for ICSI and 605 for IVF. Compared with the control, husbands＇ sperm produced a lower fertilization rate in nonobstructive azoospermia （65.4% vs 83.2%; P〈 0.001）, crytozoospermia （68.8% vs 75.5%; P〈 0.05） and necrospermia （65.0% vs 85.2%; P〈 0.05）. The zygotes derived in nonobstructive azoospermia had a lower cleavage rate （96.4% vs 99.4%; P 〈 0.05）, but the rate of resultant good-quality embryos was not different. Analysis of the rates of cleaved and good-quality embryos in crytozoospermia and necrospermia did not exhibit a significant difference from the control. In conclusion, although the sperm from severe male infertility reduced the fertilization ability, the derived embryos had potential developmental viabilities that might be predictive for the expected clinical outcomes.

Soil microbes play essential roles in the biogeochemical processes of organic carbon and nutrient cycling. Many studies have reported various short-term effects of fertilization on soil microbes. However, less is known about the effects of longterm fertilization regimes on the rhizosphere. Therefore, the objective of this study was to explore how the soil microbial communities in the rhizosphere respond to different long-term fertilization strategies. Based on a 21-year field treatment experiment in Guizhou, China, we extracted phospholipid fatty acids(PLFAs) to determine the microbial community structure in both the non-rhizosphere(NR) and rhizosphere(R). Six treatments were included: no fertilizer(CK), mineral nitrogen fertilizer(N), N with potassium(NK), phosphorus with K(PK), NPK, and NPK combined with manure(MNPK). The results showed that total PLFAs under unbalanced mineral fertilization(N, NK and PK) were decreased by 45% on average in the NR compared with CK, whereas MNPK increased fungi and G~– bacteria abundance significantly in both the NR(by 33 and 23%) and R(by 15 and 20%), respectively. In addition, all microbial groups in the R under these treatments(N, NK and PK) were significantly increased relative to those in the NR, except for the ratio of F/B and G^+/G~–, which might be due to the high nutrient availability in the R. Soil pH and SOC significantly regulated the soil microbial community and structure, explaining 51 and 20% of the variation in the NR, respectively. However, the rhizosphere microbial community structure was only significantly affected by soil pH(31%). We concluded that the soil microbial community in the NR was more strongly affected by long-term fertilization than that in the R due to the rhizosphere effect in the agricultural ecosystem. Rhizosphere nutrient conditions and buffering capacity could help microbial communities resist the change from the long-term fertilization.

Multidrug resistance(MDR) occurs frequently after long-term chemotherapy, resulting in refractory cancer and tumor ***, combatting MDR is an important issue. Autophagy, a self-degradative system, universally arises during the treatment of sensitive and MDR cancer. Autophagy can be a double-edged sword for MDR tumors: it participates in the development of MDR and protects cancer cells from chemotherapeutics but can also kill MDR cancer cells in which apoptosis pathways are inactive. Autophagy induced by anticancer drugs could also activate apoptosis signaling pathways in MDR cells, facilitating MDR reversal. Therefore, research on the regulation of autophagy to combat MDR is expanding and is becoming increasingly important. We summarize advanced studies of autophagy in MDR tumors, including the variable role of autophagy in MDR cancer cells.
