To derive meaningful navigation strategies,animals have to estimate their directional headings in the ***,this function is achieved by the head direction cells that were found in mammalian brains,whose neural activities encode one’s heading *** is believed that such head direction information is generated by integrating self-motion cues,which also introduces accumulative errors in the long *** eliminate such errors,this paper presents an efficient calibration model that mimics the animals’behavior by exploiting visual cues in a biologically plausible way,and then implements it in robotic navigation *** proposed calibration model allows the agent to associate its head direction and the perceived egocentric direction of a visual cue with its position and orientation,and therefore to calibrate the head direction when the same cue is viewed *** examine the proposed head direction calibration model in extensive simulations and real-world experiments and demonstrate its excellent performance in terms of quick association of information to proximal or distal cues as well as accuracy of calibrating the integration errors of the head *** can be viewed at https://***/hdc-calibration.

An integrated mathematical model to simulate seamless tube rolling processes has been developed at The Timken Company. The model is capable of simulating the thermal, deformation and microstructure evolution in the piercing, elongating and reducing/sizing and the austenite decomposition in the mill annealing and cooling operations. Finite difference schemes are employed to model cooling, reducing/sizing and stretch reducing, and finite-element schemes are employed to simulate piercing and elongating. The model predicts the thermal history, deformation, rolling load, torque, recrystallization and grain growth in hot tube rolling, austenite decomposition in cooling or annealing, and the final structure-properties. In this paper mathematical models which are employed to describe the thermal, deformation and microstructure evolution along with the modeling results are presented. The developed 'tube rolling mill in the computer' provides a powerful tool for engineers for product and process development, process control, process optimization and quality control.

A comparison of traditional and mobile wood pellet mills found that mobile systems had higher production costs. Wildfire suppression costs have consistently exceeded British Columbia’s budget set for such activities. Pelletization of excess wood for bioenergy applications has been proposed as a possible method of reducing the span>span>overall costs of fighting wildfires. In this study, a traditional pellet mill produces wood pellets from new, marginal feedstocks for $182.24 ± 24.47 sup>sup> and a mobile pellet production system producesspan> wood pellets for $402.71 ± 24.18 sup>sup>. The traditional pellet mill produces 90,000 sup>sup> with harvest residues being collected in the forest, transported to the pellet mill, dried, chipped, pelletized and then stored. Efficient Noninvasive FHB Estimation using RGB Images from a Novel Multiyear,Multirater Dataset

Fusarium head blight(FHB)is one of the most prevalent wheat diseases,causing substantial yield losses and health *** phenotyping of FHB is crucial for accelerating resistance breeding,but currently used methods are time-consuming and *** present article suggests a noninvasive classification model for FHB severity estimation using red–green–blue(RGB)images,without requiring extensive *** model accepts images taken from consumer-grade,low-cost RGB cameras and classifies the FHB severity into 6 ordinal *** addition,we introduce a novel dataset consisting of around 3,000 images from 3 different years(2020,2021,and 2022)and 2 FHB severity assessments per image from independent *** used a pretrained EfficientNet(size b0),redesigned as a regression *** results demonstrate that the interrater reliability(Cohen’s kappa,κ)is substantially lower than the achieved individual network-to-rater results,e.g.,0.68 and 0.76 for the data captured in 2020,*** model shows a generalization effect when trained with data from multiple years and tested on data from an independent ***,using the images from 2020 and 2021 for training and 2022 for testing,we improved the F_(1)^(w) score by 0.14,the accuracy by 0.11,κ by 0.12,and reduced the root mean squared error by 0.5 compared to the best network trained only on a single year’s *** proposed lightweight model and methods could be deployed on mobile devices to automatically and objectively assess FHB severity with images from low-cost RGB *** source code and the dataset are available at https://***/cvims/FHB_classification.

Crohn's disease(CD) is a chronic remittent idiopathic disease. Although the early phase of the disease is commonly characterized by inflammation-driven symptoms, such as diarrhea, the frequency of fibrostenotic complications in patients with CD increases over the long-term course of the disease. This review presents the current diagnostic options for assessing CD-associated strictures. In addition to the endoscopic evaluation of CD strictures, this review summarizes the currently available imaging modalities, including ultrasound and cross-sectional imaging techniques. In addition to stricture detection, differentiating between the primarily inflammatory strictures and the predominantly fibrotic ones is essential for selecting the appropriate treatment strategy(anti-inflammatory medical treatment vs endoscopical or surgical approaches). Therefore, recent imaging advances, such as contrast-enhanced ultrasound and ultrasound elastography, contribute to the development of noninvasive non-radiating imaging of CD-associated strictures. Finally, novel magnetic resonance imaging techniques, such as diffusion-weighted, motility and magnetization transfer imaging, as well as 18F-FDG PET/CT, molecular imaging approaches and biomarkers, are critically reviewed with regard to their potential role in assessing stricturing CD.

Risk and benefit from clinical trials in minors:Making the case for transparent and consistent publications

Rationale, aim and objectives: The European (EU) regulation on medicinal products for pediatric use (EC 1901/2006), which became effective in 2007, aimed to stimulate the clinical testing of medications in minors in order to reduce off-label use. In consequence, the number of minors taking part in randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) is likely to increase. Clinical trials in minors require a complex methodological design, a careful consideration of risks and benefits and a high level of ethical reflection. Unfortunately, as to the quality of clinical trials and their publications in minors little is known. Therefore, we assessed published reports of randomized, controlled clinical trials in minors, focusing on a common disease (asthma) and a defined spectrum of lifethreatening diseases (malignant diseases). Method: In an exploratory design, we scanned the publications for methodological aspects as well as indicators of ethical soundness, e.g., statements that informed consent had been obtained before the start of the trial or that a Data and safety Monitoring Board ensured the patients’ safety during the trial. We also looked for passages reflecting the debate on equipoise or other forms of weighing risks and benefits. Results: We found that many of these aspects, which according to the scientific literature and generally acknowledged guidelines are essential to ensure good-quality trials and trial reports, were not considered in the publications analyzed. Conclusion: Therefore, we call for a more transparent and consistent presentation of the trials, especially of safety aspects, relying on a more critical and transparent ethical reflection.

We report on a 24-year-old male patient with history of bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting. Endoscopy revealed massive ulcerative discontinuous proctosigmoiditis with deep, sharply demarcated epithelial denudations and enterotoxigenic methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRsA) was detected in mucosal biopsies. After treatment with linezolide and steroids, a significant amelioration of colitis was detected and testing for MRsA became negative. In face of the case presented here, we suggest that in patients with refractory inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), microbiological assessment should be performed to detect a possible staphylococcus aureus infection in order to initiate an antimicrobial treatment in addition to IBDspecific treatment.
