Background Krill（Euphausia superba） and salps（Salpa thompsoni） are key macrozooplankton grazers in the Southern Ocean ecosystem. However, due to differing habitat requirements, both species previously exhibited little spatial overlap. With ongoing climate change-induced seawater temperature increase and regional sea ice loss, salps can now extend their spatial distribution into historically krill-dominated areas and increase rapidly due to asexual reproduction when environmental conditions are favorable. Understanding the potential effects on krill is crucial, since krill is a species of exceptional trophic significance in the Southern Ocean food web. Negative impacts on krill could trigger cascading effects on its predators and prey. To address this question, we combined two individual-based models on salps and krill, which describe the whole life cycle of salp individuals and the dynamic energy budget of individual krill. The resulting new model PEKRIS（PErformance of KRIll vs. Salps） simulates a krill population for 100 years under varying chlorophyll-a concentrations in the presence or absence of *** All of the investigated krill population properties（abundance, mean length, and yearly egg production） were significantly impacted by the presence of salps. On the other hand, salp density was not impacted if krill were present. The medians of krill population properties deviated during variable maximum chlorophyll-a density per year when salps were introduced by-99.9%（-234 individuals per 1000 m3） for krill density,-100%（-22,062 eggs per 1000 m3） for krill eggs and-0.9%（-0.3 mm） for mean length of *** If both species compete for the same food resource in a closed space, salps seem to inhibit krill populations. Background and objectives:Polymerase chain reaction(PCR)techniques provide rapid detection of *** pilot study evaluated the diagnostic utility and clinical impact of multiplex real-time PCR(mRT-PCR,SeptiFast)*** microbial culture(CmC)in bile samples of patients with chronic cholestatic liver diseases(cCLDs),endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography(ERCP),and peri-interventional-antimicrobial-prophylaxis(pAP).methods:We prospectively collected bile samples from 26 patients for microbiological analysis by CmC and *** of the results of both methods was determined by Krippendorff's alpha(α)for inter-rater reliability and the Jaccard index of ***:mRT-PCR_(bile)and CmC_(bile)results were concordant for only Candida albicans(α=0.8406;Jaccard index=0.8181).mRT-PCR_(bile)detected pathogens in 8/8 cases(100%),CmC_(bile)in 7/8(87.5%),and CmCblood in 5/8(62.5%)with clinical signs of ***_(bile),CmC_(bile),and CmCblood had identical detection results in 3/8(37.5%)with clinical signs of infection(two Klebsiella *** one Enterococcus faecium).The total pathogen count was significantly higher with mRT-PCR_(bile)than with CmC_(bile)(62 vs.31;χ^(2)=30.031,pmRT-PCR_(bile)were more often susceptible to pAP according to the patient infection/colonization history(PI/CH)and surveillance data for antibiotic resistance in our clinic(DARC).Pathogens identified by mRT-PC_(Rbile)and resistant to pAP by PI/CH and DARC were likely to be clinically ***:mRT-PCR in conjunction with CmCs for bile analysis increased diagnostic sensitivity and may benefit infection management in patients with cholestatic *** of mRT-PCR in a bile sample-based diagnostic routine can support more rapid and targeted use of antimicrobial agents in cCLD-patients undergoing ERCP and reduce the rate/length of unnecessary administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics.

AIm: To correlate the significance of liver biochemical tests in diagnosing post orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) biliary complications and to study their profile before and after endoscopic therapy. mETHODS: Patients who developed biliary complications were analysed in detail for the clinical information,laboratory tests,treatment offered,response to it,follow up and outcomes. The profile of liver enzymes was determined. The safety,efficacy and outcomes of endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERC) were also analysed. RESULTS: 40 patients required ERC for 70 biliary complications. GGT was found to be > 3 times (388.1 ± 70.9 U/mL vs 168.5 ± 34.2 U/L,P = 0.007) and SAP > 2 times (345.1 ± 59.1 U/L vs 152.7 ± 21.4 U/L,P = 0.003) the immediate post OLT values. most frequent complication was isolated anastomotic strictures in 28 (40%). Sustained success was achieved in 26 (81%) patients. CONCLUSION: Biliary complications still remain an important problem post OLT. SAP and GGT can be used as early,non-invasive markers for diagnosis and also to assess the adequacy of therapy. Endoscopic management is usually effective in treating the majority of these biliary complications.
