A highly simple, rapid, sensitive and selective method is developed for spectrophotometric determination of gabapentin in pure form as well as in pharmaceutical formulations. The method is based on the formation of a yellow schiff base derived from the condensation of gabapentin drug (1-amino methyl) cyclo hexane acetic acid and 2,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (DHBA) exhibiting a maximum absorbance at 445 nm. The composition, molar absorptivity and effect of different excipient have been determined spectrophotometrically. Under optimized experimental conditions, Beer’s law is obeyed in the concentration range 2.57 - 37.25 μg/ml. The method is validated with respect to accuracy, precision, limit of detection and limit of quantification. The sandell sensitivity, correlation coefficient and regression equation are calculated. The equilibrium constant and free energy change using Benesi-Hildebrand plot are also determined. The schiff base derived from condensation of gabapentin with DHBA is also synthesized and characterized. The condensation reaction mechanism has been proposed.

Phytochemical, antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of different fractions of Moringa oleifera leaves methanol extract against liver injury in animal model

Objective: To evaluate the potential antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of n-hexane, dichloromethane(DCM), ethyl acetate(EtOAc), n-butanol and aqueous fractions of Moringa oleifera(M. oleifera) leaves methanol extract against carbon tetrachloride(CCl_4)-induced liver injury in rats. Methods: These fractions were prepared from the M. oleifera leaves methanol extract by solubilization in water and partitioning in n-hexane, EtOAc, DCM and n-butanol. Their phyto-components were identified by GC-Ms analysis. The in vitro antioxidant effect of these fractions was carried out by assessment of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl scavenging activity. A total of 40 sprague Dawley rats were allocated into 8 equal groups: group 1 given olive oil(1 m L/kg ***.), group 2 injected with CCl_4, group 3 to 7 administered with n-hexane, DCM, EtOAc, n-butanol and aqueous fractions, respectively after CCl_4, group 8 administered with silymarin after CCl_4. The activities of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and the levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, total proteins and albumin in serum were determined spectrophotometrically. Glutathione reduced, lipid peroxide by-products levels, glutathione-s-transferase and catalase enzyme activities in the liver homogenate were determined by spectrophotometer. Liver specimens were also examined for histopathological alterations under light microscope. Results: The GCMs analysis of different fractions of the M. oleifera leaves methanol extract revealed that n-hexane, DCM, EtOAc, n-butanol, and aqueous fractions contained 17, 22, 23, 19 and 32 compounds, respectively. The percent and the molecular structure of each component in each fraction were identified. The n-butanol and EtOAc fractions exhibited the strongest in vitro antioxidant activity against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl. Background and aim: The prognostic role of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been shown in many solid tumors included in a recent meta-analysis of one hundred studies. We aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio in treatment outcomes;response and survival of patients with different stages of rectal cancers. Patients and methods: All patients with pathologically confirmed cancer rectum presented to our department during the period from January 2012 to the end of 2014 were included in this retrospective study, these recruited patients were evaluated through their files to determine different objectives of our study. Results: The median overall survival was 31 ± 4.676 months while disease free survival was 40 ± 2.346 for the whole study group;neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio was negatively correlated with overall survival with r = –0.743, P disease free survival with r = –0.717, P total number of lymph nodes dissected ratio with r = +0.254, P = 0.028. Roc curve was used to find the accurate cut point of NLR for these patients and was found to be of 4.5. Conclusion: Elevated pre-treatment NLR is an independent predictor of shorter survival in patients with rectal cancer. This parameter is a simple, easily accessible laboratory test for identifying patients with poorer prognosis.

神经退行性疾病是由神经元损伤或坏死引起的中枢神经系统(CNs)不可治愈的疾病,例如阿尔茨海默氏病和帕金森氏病。有趣的是,通常引起呼吸系统感染的流感病毒近来被证实可以引起神经系统症状。由脑微血管内皮细胞(h BMEC)为主要细胞构成的血脑屏障(BBB)在中枢神经系统对抗病原感染中发挥特定的防御功能。为了研究人脑微血管内皮细胞对A型流感病毒的反应,我们用A/WsN/33(H1N1)流感病毒感染人脑微血管内皮细胞,分别通过RT-qPCR和Western blotting检测流感病毒核蛋白(NP)基因的表达。同时,免疫荧光检测NP显示病毒在细胞内的差异分布。取H1N1感染h BMEC 12小时后的细胞样本及H5N6感染3天后的BALB/c小鼠脑组织样本,提取RNA进行测序,分析其基因表达变化和病毒感染途径。结果提示h BMECs对甲型流感病毒高度敏感,免疫荧光结果显示病毒核蛋白在细胞核中积累,并在12 hpi时与细胞骨架肌动蛋白共定位。hBMEC有效激活了先天免疫应答的模式识别受体(PRR)和RIG-I样受体信号。一些干扰素及干扰素刺激基因的上调,例如IFN-β、IFN-λ、IsG15、CXCL11、CXCL3和IL-6等,增强了炎症风暴。此外,与阿尔茨海默氏病患者的情况相似,h BMECs还呈现出破坏多个线粒体基因组的特性。此外,BALB/c小鼠脑组织的差异表达基因分析预测中枢神经系统可能发生功能失调,并伴随中枢神经系统发育障碍和谷氨酸能神经元突触功能受损。并且,在感染甲型流感病毒后,h BMECs和小鼠脑组织的神经活性配体-受体互作显著上调。总体而言,该课题通过甲型流感病毒对BBB的体外感染模型及小鼠感染模型脑组织样本的研究,提供了甲型流感病毒通过感染血脑屏障进而影响中枢神经系统,潜在引起神经退行性疾病的证据。

Methylene Blue Dye Adsorption onto Polyoxometalate Ionic Liquid supported on Bentonite: Kinetic, Equilibrium and Thermodynamic studies

The potential of polyoxometalate ionic liquid POM-IL supported on low-cost and available eco-friendly saudi raw bentonite in the adsorption of MB cationic dye was investigated. For this purpose, TOAspan>sub>xsub>[span>α-XWsub>11sub>Osub>39sub>]@Bentonite (Xspan> = Si, P;TOA = TetraOctylAmmonium), namely SWB and PWB were prepared and characterized by IR, XRD, XRF, SEM, TEM and BET. Batch adsorption experiments showed that SWB and PWB have higher adsorption capacity than the raw bentonite with an enhancement of about 37% for SWB. The adsorption capacities of both SWB and PWB improved with increasing contact time and temperature and decreased with higher salt concentration in solution. The pH is shown to have insignificant effect on the adsorption of MB onto SWB and PWB.span style="font-family:Verdana;"> This result is quite meaningful in the adsorption process application since it makes pH complicated adjustment of the discharged contaminated water before treatment unnecessary. The Kinetic study expressed that the pseudo-second-order model described the adsorption process better than the pseudo first order. The experimental isotherm data were found to fit the Langmuir model compared to the Freundlich model with a maximum adsorption capacity 277.78 mg/g and 113.6 for PWB and sWB respectively. The

Reaction of indole-3-carboxaldehydes 4 with hydrazine derivatives and different substituted acid hydrazides afforded the corresponding hydrazine derivatives 5a-c and acid hydrazide derivatives 7-11 respectively. Condensation of indole-3-carboxaldehydes 4 with phenacyl bromide and thiourea gives 1,3-thiazol-2-amine derivative 18. On the other hand, reaction 4 with 3-acetylchromene-2-one afforded chalcone derivative 19. Compound 4 undergoing Knoevenagel condensation with cyanoacetamide, ethyl cyanoacetate, benzimidazol-2-ylacetonitrile, rhodanine-3-acetic acid, 2,3-dihydropyrimidin-4-one derivative and 2,4-dihydropyrazol-3-one afforded the compounds 20a,b, 22, 23, 27 and 28 respectively. The structure of the newly synthesized compounds has been confirmed by elemental analysis and spectra data. Introduction: This study investigated the incidence, surgical management and outcome of Gastrointestinal stromal Tumors (GIsT) in Upper Egypt. Methods: A retrospective review of all GIsT patients admitted a south Egypt Cancer Institute between Jan. 2010 and Dec. 2015 was conducted. Patients’ demographics, clinical presentation, tumor characteristics, radiological, pathological and immunohistochemical findings, surgical procedures, recurrence and mortality were recorded. Results: A total of 36 GIsT patients were identified, stomach was the most common site (27.8%) followed by the small intestine (19.4%) and the large intestine (16.7%). The mean age at time of diagnosis as 52.8 ± 14.4 (ranged from 17 to 76 years). Of these 36 cases, 20 (55.6%) cases were males and 16 (44.4%) cases were females with a ratio of 1.2:1. About 22 cases (61.1%) presented with primary tumors, eight cases (22.2%) had primary tumors and metastases, three cases (8.35) presented with recurrent mass, whereas one case (2.2%) presented either with recurrent mass and metastases or metastases only. The majority of cases (22) had tumorsize >5 cm. Patients were stratified as high, intermediate, low and very low risk (50.6%, 30.6%, 11.1% and 2.8%, respectively). Almost all the cases were surgically managed and 75% were completely resectable. During follow up (average 26.5 months), 22 patients showed complete recovery, 7 had recurrent or metastatic disease and 2 died due to liver metastasis. Conclusion: The incidence of GIsT in Upper Egypt is apparently low. surgical resection is the preferred choice of treatment. The demographic data of GIsT patients in south Egypt Cancer institute were similar to those published in the literature. Other prospective studies are required to assess the prognosis and the effect of treatment.

Face mask detection has several applications,including real-time surveillance,biometrics,*** face masks is also helpful for crowd control and ensuring people wear them *** monitoring personnel,it is impossible to ensure that people wear face masks;automated systems are a much superior option for face mask detection and *** paper introduces a simple and efficient approach for masked face *** architecture of the proposed approach is very straightforward;it combines deep learning and local binary patterns to extract features and classify themasmasked or *** proposed systemrequires hardware withminimal power consumption compared to state-of-the-art deep learning *** proposed system maintains two *** first,this work extracted the local features of an image by using a local binary pattern descriptor,and then we used deep learning to extract global *** proposed approach has achieved excellent accuracy and high *** performance of the proposed method was tested on three benchmark datasets:the realworld masked faces dataset(RMFD),the simulated masked faces dataset(sMFD),and labeled faces in the wild(LFW).Performancemetrics for the proposed technique weremeasured in terms of accuracy,precision,recall,and *** indicated the efficiency of the proposed technique,providing accuracies of 99.86%,99.98%,and 100%for RMFD,sMFD,and LFW,***,the proposed method outperformed state-of-the-art deep learning methods in the recent bibliography for the same problem under study and on the same evaluation datasets.

Possibility of polyploidy induction by colchicine in “Balady” mandarins was investigated in vitro. seeds were immersed in different concentrations of colchicine solutions (0.01%, 0.05%, 0.1% and 0.2%) for different durations (12, 24 and 48 hr), then cultured in vitro on Ms medium at half strength. seed survival percentage decreased by increasing colchicine concentration and duration of treatment showing the lowest percentage at 0.2% for 48 hr. The highest DNA content was recorded at 0.2% for 24 hr. stomata No. per unit area was decreased by colchicine treatments;moreover stomata length and width were studied. The results indicated that colchicine treatment at 0.1% for 48 hr had the highest tetraploid induction efficiency percentage.

Background: Unique receptor involved in leukemogenesis is CD85k;an immuneglobulin receptor for immune tolerance, CD36 is glycoprotein mediates cellular adhesion and metastatic spread, CD14, CD15 considered common monocytic markers. Aims: to investigate CD85k with monocytic lineage involved leukemia (MLIL) markers in leukemia pathogenesis and clinical presentation. Patients and Methods: 47 patients (32 diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML);15 non-malignant hematological disease as a control), were included, aged from 2 to 80 years, all subjected to peripheral blood (***) and bone marrow (B.M) examination, immunophenotyping (IPT) using FAsC Canto four color flow cytometer (FCM) Becton Dickenson (BD) UsA, for CD13, CD33, MPO, HLA-DR, CD34, CD38, CD117, CD14, CD15 and CD36 the Mo Abs supplied by B.D Bioscience, and anti CD85k Mo Abs by Aveda de Coimbra Flamenco, reference No. 1399990130. Results: Frequency of CD85k is 19/32 (59.37%) of AML;14/14 (M4/M5) 100% positive CD85k, insignificant correlations of CD85k to sex, lymphadenopathy or organomegaly, platelets count and *** blast (P > 0.05), significant to age 50,000 × 109/l, Hb 0.05). Conclusion: Although CD85k is MLIL associated marker, it is not correlated with other MLIL markers with frequency 100% in MLIL and 59.37% in AML, age predisposition is s with no sex variation, significant correlation to progenitor and myeloid markers, it’s a crucial role in leukemogenesis biology, not in clinical presentations, considered good follow up predictor MLIL marker.
