Objecive:To screen the fatty acid(FA) composition of 20 marine microalgae species,including seven Diophyceae,six Bacillariophyeae four Chlorophyceae,two Haptophyceae and one Raphidophyceae ***:Microalgal cells cultured at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology were harvested during the late exponential growth phase and the FA composition ***:The FA composition of microalgae was *** example,seven different species of Dinophyceae were composed primarily of C14:0,C16:0.C18:0.C20:4n-6.C20:5n-3 and C22:*** C14:0.C16:0,C16:1.C18:0.C20:5n-3 and C22:6n-3 were abundant FAs in six species of *** addition,four Chlurophyceae,two Haptopkyeeae and one Raphidophyceae species all contained a high degree of C16:1 n-7[(9.2R-34.91)%and(34.48-35.04)%].C14:0[(13.34-25.96)%]and[(26.69-Z8.24)%],and C16:0[(5.89-29.15)%]and[(5.70-16.81)%].Several factors contribute to the nutritional value of *** the polyunsaturated FA content and n-3 to n-6 FA ratio,which could be used to assess the nutritional quality of ***:This study is the first comprehensive assessment of the FA composition and nutritional value of microalgae species in South Korea,and identifies the potential utility of FAs as species-specific biomarkers.

AIM： To evaluate the association of glutathione S-trans-ferase mu （GSTM1） and glutathione S-transferase theta （GSTT1） null genotypes with the risk of gastric cancer （GC） and colorectal cancer （CRC） in a South Korean population. METHODS： We conducted a population-based, large- scale case-control study including 2213 GCs, 1829 CRCs, and 1699 controls. Null and non-null genotypes of GSTM1 and GSI-F1 were determined using realtime PCR. RESULTS： The null genotypes of GSTM1 and GSTT1 were not significantly associated with elevated risk of gastric （OR = 1.070, 95% CI = 0.935-1.224; OR = 1.101, 95% CI = 0.963-1.259, respectively） or colorectal cancer （OR = 1.065, 95% CI = 0.923-1.228; OR = 1.041, 95% CI = 0.903-1.200, respectively）. The frequency of the combined null GST genotype was not different between the two cancer groups and controls. Moreover, smoking, drinking, and age did not modify the association between these genotypes and the risk of gastric or colorectal cancer. CONCLUSION： GSTM1 and GSCI-1 null genotypes were not associated with increased risk of GC or CRC in Koreans.

Objective:To establish a novel and highly specific loop-mediated isothermal amplification(LAMP) assay for the identification of nervous necrosis virus(NNV) ***:A set of synthesized primers was used to match the sequences of a specific region of the nnr gene from the National Center for Biotechnology Information database,not originating from NNV-infected fish,the efficiency and specificity of LAMP were measured dependent on the concentration of DNA polymerase and the reaction temperature and *** addition,to determine species-specific LAMP primers,cross reactivity testing was applied to the reaction between NVV and other virus families including viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus and marine ***:The optimized LAMP reaction carried out at 64 ℃ for 60 min,and above 4 U Bst DNA *** sensitivity of LAMP for the detection of nnv was thus about 10 times greater than the sensitivity of polymerase chain *** LAMP assay primers were specific for the detection NNV infection in Epinephelus ***:The development of LAMP primers based on genetic information from a public database,not virus-infected samples,may provide a very simple and convenient method to identify viral infection in aquatic organisms.

Comparison of brush and basket cytology in differential diagnosis of bile duct stricture at endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography

BACKGROUND： A previous report has identified a significantly higher sensitivity of cancer detection for dedicated grasping basket than brushing at endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreato- graphy （ERCP）. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy of Geenen brush and dormia basket cytology in the differential diagnosis of bile duct stricture. METHOD： The current study enrolled one hundred and fourteen patients who underwent ERCP with both Geenen brush and dormia basket cytology for the differential diagnosis of bile duct stricture at our institution between January 2008 and December 2012. RESULTS： We adopted sequential performances of cytologic samplings by using initial Geenen brush and subsequent dormia basket cytology in 59 patients and initial dormia basket and subsequent Geenen brush cytology in 55 patients. Presampling balloon dilatations and biliary stentings for the stricture were performed in 17 （14.9%） and 107 patients （93.9%）, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of Geenen brush cytology for the diagnosis of malignant bile duct stricture were 75.0%, 100.0%, 100.0%, 66.7% and 83.3%, respectively, and those of dormia basket cytology were 64.5%, 100.0%, 100.0%, 58.5% and 76.3%, respectively （P=0.347 and 0.827 for sensitivity and accuracy, respectively）. The good and excellent cellular yields （≥grade 2） were obtained by Geenen brush and dormia basket cytology in 88 （77.2%） and 79 （69.3%） patients, ***： The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of biliary sampling with a dormia basket are comparable to those with conventional Geenen brush cytology in the detection of malignant bile duct stricture.
