Episodic events in long-term geological processes:A new classification and its applications

Long-term geological processes are usually described with curves reflecting continuous changes in the characteristic parameters through the geological history, and such curves can be employed directly for recognition of episodic(relatively long-term) events linked to these changes. The episodic events can be classified into several categories according to their scale(ordinary and anomalous events), "shape"(positive, negative, and neutral events), and relation to long-term trend change(successive, interruptive,facilitative, stabilizing, transformative, increasing, and decreasing). many types of these events can be defined depending on the combination of the above-mentioned patterns. Of course, spatial rank,duration, and origin can be also considered in description of these events. The proposed classification can be applied to events in some real long-term geological processes, which include global sea-level changes,biodiversity dynamics, lithospheric plate number changes, and palaeoclimate changes. Several case examples prove the usefulness of the classification. It is established that the Early valanginian(Early Cretaceous) eustatic lowstand(the lowest position of the sea level in the entire Cretaceous) was negative,but ordinary and only interruptive event. In the other case, it becomes clear that the only end-Ordovician and the Permian/Triassic mass extinctions transformed the trends of the biodiversity dynamics(from increase to decrease and from decrease to increase respectively), and the only Cretaceous/Paleogene mass extinction was really anomalous event on the Phanerozoic biodiversity curve. The new palaeontological data are employed to reconstruct the diversity dynamics of brachiopods in Germany(without the Alps) and the Swiss Jura mountains. The further interpretation of the both diversity curves implies that the Early Toarcian mass extinction affected the regional brachiopod faunas strongly, but this event was only decreasing(biotic radiation continued after

In this paper,we point out some practical obstacles arising in realization of compressional optical coherence elastography(OCE)that have not attracted sufficient attention ***-cally,we discuss(i)complications in quantification of the Young modulus of tissues related to partial adhesion between the OCE probe and soft intervening reference layer sensor,(i)distorting influence of tisue suface curvature/corrugation on the subsurface strain distri-bution mapping,(ii)ways of signal-to-noise mtio(SNR)enhancement in OCE strain mapping when periodic averaging is not realized,and(iv)potentially significant infuence of tissue elastic nonlinearity on quantification of its *** pnactical approaches to mitigate the effects of these complications are also described.

We present the database of maser sources in H2 O, OH and Si O lines that can be used to identify and study variable stars at evolved stages. Detecting the maser emission in H2 O, OH and Si O molecules toward infrared-excess objects is one of the methods for identifing long-period variables(LPvs, including miras and semiregulars), because these stars exhibit maser activity in their circumstellar shells. Our sample contains 1803 known LPv objects. Forty-six percent of these stars(832 objects) manifest maser emission in the line of at least one molecule: H2 O, OH or Si O. We use the database of circumstellar masers in order to search for LPvs which are not included in the General Catalogue of variable Stars(GCvS). Our database contains 4806 objects(3866 objects without associations in GCvS) with maser detection in at least one molecule. Therefore it is possible to use the database in order to locate and study the large sample of LPv stars. The database can be accessed at http://***.

multi-material laser-based powder bed fusion (PBF-LB) allows manufacturing of parts with 3-dimensional gradient and additional functionality in a single step. This research focuses on the combination of thermally-conductive CuCr1Zr with hard m300 tool *** interface configurations of m300 on CuCr1Zr and CuCr1Zr on m300 were investigated. Ultra-fine grains form at the interface due to the low mutual solubility of Cu and steel. The material mixing zone size is dependent on the configurations and tunable in the range of0.1–0.3 mm by introducing a separate set of parameters for the interface layers. microcracks and pores mainly occur in the transition *** of these defects, the thermal diffusivity of bimetallic parts with 50vol% of CuCr1Zr significantly increases by 70%–150%compared to pure m300. The thermal diffusivity of CuCr1Zr and the hardness of m300 steel can be enhanced simultaneously by applying the aging heat treatment.

The main current approaches for generation of the packed bed models are based on rigid body dynamics(RBD)and Newton's laws(discrete element methods-DEm).This paper deals with the development and analysis of a novel code based on analytical geometry approach for the packed bed *** architecture and main algorithms of the novel code are described and *** parameters of the packed bed generated via the novel code are compared with experimental data and packed beds generated via Blender(RBD),Yade(DEm).The novel code demonstrates many advantages,such as good correlation with experimental data,no overlaps between pellets in the packed bed,and a low computational time for packed bed *** packed bed model can be directly exported *** *** advantages are also demonstrated and *** novel code is attached to this paper and can be freely used by engineers and scientists.

Localized surface plasmon resonances(LSPR)generated in a particle-film nanocavity enhance electric fields within a nanoscale *** can also decay into hot carriers,highly energetic species that catalyze photocatalytic reactions in molecular analytes located in close proximity to metal *** this study,we examined the intensity of the electric field(near-field)and photocatalytic properties of plasmonic nanocavities formed by single nanoparticles(SNP)on single nanoplates(SNL).Using 4-nitrobenzenethiol(4-NBT)as a molecular reporter,we determined the near-field responses,as well as measured rates of 4-NBT dimerization into 4,4-dimercaptoazobenzene(DmAB)in the gold(Au)SNP on AuSNL nanocavity(Au-Au),as well as in AuSNP on AgSNL(Au-Ag),AgSNP on AuSNL(Ag-Au),and AgSNP on AgSNL(Ag-Ag)nanocavities using 532,660,and 785 nm *** observed the strongest near-field signals of 4-NBT at 660 nm in all examined plasmonic systems that is found to be substantially red-shifted relative to the LSPR of the corresponding *** also found that rates of DmAB formation were significantly greater in heterometal nanocavities(Au-Ag and Ag-Au)compared to their monometallic counterparts(Au-Au and Ag-Ag).These results point to drastic differences in plasmonic and photocatalytic properties of mono and bimetallic nanostructures.

Recent reports suggest that aging is not solely a physiological process in living beings;instead, it should be considered a pathological process or disease(Amorim et al., 2022). Consequently, this process involves a wide range of factors, spanning from genetic to environmental factors, and even includes the gut microbiome(Gm)(mayer et al., 2022). All these processes coincide at some point in the inflammatory process, oxidative stress, and apoptosis, at different degrees in various organs and systems that constitute a living organism(mayer et al., 2022;AguilarHernández et al., 2023).

In this study,we examined the effect of synanthropic house mouse(mus musculus)urine odor on catching probability of small mammals to live *** conducted a series of field experiments in August 2016 and 2017 in a natural forests of the northwestern moscow Region(Russia).Small mammals were trapped at two 4-ha fields using capture-mark-recapture technique by setting 200 live traps(100 points,2 traps per point)within each *** trap in each pair was odorless(control)with bait only,whereas the other one was odor-baited with 20μL of the urine of a synanthropic house *** analysis was based on the data collected from 2 rodent species(bank vole myodes glareolus,herb field mouse Apodemus uralensis)and 3 shrew species(common shrew Sorex araneus,Laxmann’s shrew Sorex caecutiens,and Eurasian pygmy shrew Sorex minutus).As a result,only bank voles significantly avoided odor-baited live *** generalized linear mixed models,we showed that the choice of a trap by bank voles depended on their age,whereas the probability of repeated capture to a certain live trap was related to their prior *** discuss the possible role of components of synanthropic house mouse urine in the population management of exoanthropic small mammals.
