The complexation of high-spin lanthanides to porphyrinoids is a powerful strategy for the development of advanced molecular *** this context,the use of expanded porphyrinoids remains elusive since their coordination chemistry is challenging to ***,taking inspiration from on-surface chemistry,we explored the coordination of Dy^(3+)to a six-membered porphyrinoid,namely,the hemihexaphyrazine ***,we observed the selective formation of a mono-nuclear off-centered,out-of-plane H_(2)Hhp-Dy^(3+)complex when performing the complexation under reductive *** this reaction,the oxidation state of the macrocycle did not *** X-ray diffraction analysis,we found that the coordination number of Dy in this complex was *** macrocycle cocrystallized with decamethylcobaltocene(Cp_(2)^(*)Co)molecules,giving rise to a wellordered solid-state packing,governed byπ-π*** a result of this organization,a small magnetic coupling between the neighboring molecules was *** in all,this work provides key insights into the coordination of magnetically active metals with expanded porphyrinoids,thus motivating the development of advanced spintronic devices.

DNA double-strand breaks(DSBs)are involved in many cellular mechanisms,including replication,transcription,and genome *** recent observation that hot spots of DSBs in human chromosomes delimit DNA domains that possess coordinately expressed genes suggests a strong relationship between the organization of transcription patterns and hot spots of *** this study,we performed mapping of hot spots of DSBs in a human 43-kb ribosomal DNA(rDNA)repeated *** observed that rDNA units corresponded to the most fragile sites in human chromosomes and that these units possessed at least nine specific regions containing clusters of extremely frequently occurring DSBs,which were located exclusively in non-coding intergenic spacer(IGS)*** hot spots of DSBs corresponded to only a specific subset of DNase-hypersensitive sites,and coincided with CTCF,PARP1,and HNRNPA2B1 binding sites,and H3K4me3 *** rDNA-4C data indicate that the regions of IGS containing the hot spots of DSBs often form contacts with specific regions in different chromosomes,including the pericentromeric regions,as well as regions that are characterized by H3K27ac and H3K4me3 marks,CTCF binding sites,ChIA-PET and RIP signals,and high levels of *** data suggest a strong link between chromosome breakage and several different mechanisms of epigenetic regulation of gene expression.

326 species of spiders belonging to 26 families are recorded from the Bolshekhekhtsyrski State Nature Reserve,of them 70 are new records for the reserve and six are new to the fauna of Russia:Asperthorax borealis Ono et Saito,2001; Cyclosa kumadai Tanikawa,1992; Cyclosa okumae Tanikawa,1992(earlier it was identified as C. argenteoalba Bosenberg et Strand,1906); Haplodrassus taepaikensis Paik,1992; Hypselistes fossilobus Fei et Zhu,1993; and Pachygnatha gaoi Zhu et al.,2003. The name Pronous minutus (S. Saito,1939) is synonymized with Pronoides brunneus Schenkel,1936. The male of H. taepaikensis is illustrated for the first time. Composition of the fauna is briefly discussed; 41% of the recorded species have their ranges confined to the SE Palaearctics. By its species diversity,the reserve's fauna is the second largest local fauna eastward of the Urals. An expected spider diversity of this reserve is likely to be over 400 species.

Boron nitride nanotube growth via boron oxide assisted chemical vapor transport-deposition process using LiNO3 as a promoter

High-purity straight and discrete multiwalled boron nitride nanotubes （BNNTs） were grown via a boron oxide vapor reaction with ammonia using LiNO3 as a promoter. Only a trace amount of boron oxide was detected as an impurity in the BNNTs by energy-dispersive X-ray （EDX） and Raman spectroscopies. Boron oxide vapor was generated from a mixture of B, FeO, and MgO powders heated to 1,150 ℃, and it was transported to the reaction zone by flowing ammonia. Lithium nitrate was applied to the upper side of a BN bar from a water solution. The bar was placed along a temperature gradient zone in a horizontal tubular furnace. BNNTs with average diameters of 30-50 nm were mostly observed in a temperature range of 1,280-1,320 ℃. At higher temperatures, curled polycrystalline BN fibers appeared. Above 1,320 ℃, the number of BNNTs drastically decreased, whereas the quantity and diameter of the fibers increased. The mechanism of BNNT and fiber growth is proposed and discussed.

Nanotubes in a Gradient Electric Field as Revealed by STM TEM Technique

We have investigated the behavior of two nanotube systems,carbon and boron nitride,under controlled applied voltages in a high-resolution transmission electron microscope(TEM)equipped with a scanning tunneling microscope(STM)*** nanotubes(or thin bundles)were positioned between a piezo-movable gold electrode and a biased(up to±140 v)STM tip inside the pole-piece of the *** structures studied include double-and multi-walled carbon nanotubes(the latter having diverse morphologies due to the various synthetic procedures utilized),few-layered boron nitride nanotube bundles and multi-walled boron nitride nanotubes(with or without functionalized surfaces).The electrical breakdown,physical failure,and electrostatic interactions are documented for each system.

Positional Information Storage in Sequence Patterns

We build a model of storage of well-defined positional information in probabilistic sequence patterns. Once a pattern is defined, it is possible to judge the effect of any mutation in it. We show that the frequency of beneficial mutations can be high in general and the same mutation can be either advantageous or deleterious depending on the pattern’s context. The model allows to treat positional information as a physical quantity, formulate its conservation law and to model its continuous evolution in a whole genome, with meaningful applications of basic physical principles such as optimal efficiency and channel capacity. A plausible example of optimal solution analytically describes phase transitions-like behavior. The model shows that, in principle, it is possible to store error-free information on sequences with arbitrary low conservation. The described theoretical framework allows one to approach from novel general perspectives such long-standing paradoxes as excessive junk DNA in large genomes or the corresponding G- and C-values paradoxes. We also expect it to have an effect on a number of fundamental concepts in population genetics including the neutral theory, cost-of-selection dilemma, error catastrophe and others.

What operation for recurrent rectal prolapse after previous Delorme's procedure? A practical reality

AIM: To report our experience with perineal repair(Delorme's procedure) of rectal prolapse with particular focus on treatment of the ***: Clinical records of 40 patients who underwent Delorme's procedure between 2003 and 2014 were reviewed to obtain the following data: Gender; duration of symptoms, length of prolapse, operation time, ASA grade, length of post-operative stay, procedure-related complications, development and treatment of recurrent prolapse. Analysis of post-operative complications, rate and time of recurrence and factors influencing the choice of the procedure for recurrent disease was conducted. Continuous variables were expressed as the median with interquartile range(IQR). Statistical analysis was carried out using the Fisher exact ***: Median age at the time of surgery was 76 years(IQR: 71-81.5) and there were 38 females and 2 males. The median duration of symptoms was 6 mo(IQR: 3.5-12) and majority of patients presented electively whereas four patients presented in the emergency department with irreducible rectal prolapse. The median length of prolapse was 5 cm(IQR: 5-7), median operative time was 100 min(IQR: 85-120) and median post-operative stay was 4 d(IQR: 3-6). Approximately16% of the patients suffered minor complications such as- urinary retention, delayed defaecation and infected haematoma. One patient died constituting postoperative mortality of 2.5%. Median follow-up was 6.5 mo(IQR: 2.15-16). Overall recurrence rate was 28%(n = 12). Recurrence rate for patients undergoing an urgent Delorme's procedure who presented as an emergency was higher(75.0%) compared to those treated electively(20.5%), P value 0.034. Median time interval from surgery to the development of recurrence was 16 mo(IQR: 5-30). There were three patients who developed an early recurrence, within two weeks of the initial procedure.
