An integrated drainage information, analysis and management system （DIAMS） was developed and implemented for the New j.rsey Department of Transportation （N/DOT）. The purpose of the DIAMS is to provide a useful tool for managers to evaluate drainage infrastructure, to facilitate the determination of the present costs of preserving those in- frastructures, and to make decisions regarding the optimal use of their infrastructure budgets. The impetus for DIAMS is the culvert information management system （CIMS）, which is developed to manage the data for culvert pipes. DIAMS maintains and summa- rizes accumulated inspection data for all types of drainage infrastructure assets, including pipes, inlet/outlet structures, outfalls and manufactured treatment devices. DIAMS capa- bilities include identifying drainage infrastructure, maintaining inspection history, map- ping locations, predicting service life based on the current condition states, and assessing present asset value. It also includes unit cost values of 72 standard items to estimate the current cost for new assets with the ability to adj.st for future inflation. In addition, DIAMS contains several different repair, rehabilitation and replacement options to remedy the drainage infrastructure. DIAMS can analyze asset information and determine decisions to inspect, rehabilitate, replace or do nothing at the proj.ct and network levels by comparing costs with risks and failures. Costs may be optimized to meet annual maintenance budget allocations by pfioritizing drainage infrastructure needing inspection, cleaning and repair. DIAMS functional modules include vendor data uploading, asset identification, system administration and financial analysis. Among the significant performance feature of DIAMS is its proactive nature, which affords decision makers the means of conducting a comprehensive financial analysis to determine the optimal proactive schedule for the proper maintenance actions and to prioritize them according

We consider a Hamiltonian of a system of two fermions on a three-dimensional lattice Z3 with special potential . The corresponding Shrödinger operator H(k) of the system has an invariant subspac L-123(T3) , where we study the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of its restriction H-123(k). Moreover, there are shown that H-123(k1, k2, π) has also infinitely many invariant subspaces , where the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of eigenvalue problem are explicitly found.

In this study, the effect of silica/calcium phosphate (SiCaP) nanocomposite particles on the properties of a novel chitosan-based thermosensitive hydrogel system was examined. SiCaP nanocomposite powder was fabricated using a sol-gel method and then used to fabricate nanocomposite hydrogels (Ch- β/7.5SiCaP and Ch-β/15SiCaP) including chitosan and β-glycerophosphate (Ch-β) as a matrix. Results revealed that compared to the Ch-β hydrogel without SiCaP, the presence of SiCaP particles in nanocomposite hydrogels maintained pH stability during the sol-gel transition, accelerated the gelation and improved the stiffness of nanocomposite hydrogels. Gelation time at 37℃ was reduced approximately 75% and stiffness was increased approximately 115%. Both of these changes are attributed to chemical and physical interactions of the SiCaP bioactive particles with chitosan. Furthermore, compared to the Ch-β hydrogel, the presence of SiCaP in the Ch-β/7.5SiCaP nanocomposite hydrogel did not affect biocompatibility negatively, but improved osteoblastic cell differentiation. Our studies suggest that these nanocomposite hydrogels may offer an innovative approach to bone regeneration strategies.

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women under 60, and the second most diagnosed cancer in women over 60. While significant progress has been made in developing targeted therapies for breast cancer, advanced breast cancer continues to have high mortality, with poor 5-year survival rates. Thus, current therapies are insufficient in treating advanced stages of breast cancer;new treatments are sorely needed to address the complexity of advanced-stage breast cancer. Oncolytic virotherapy has been explored as a therapeutic approach capable of systemic administration, targeting cancer cells, and sparing normal tissue. In particular, oncolytic adenoviruses have been exploited as viral vectors due to their ease of manipulation, production, and demonstrated clinical safety profile. In this study, we engineered an oncolytic adenovirus to target the chemokine receptors CXCR4 and CXCR7. The overexpression of CXCR4 and CXCR7 is implicated in the initiation, survival, progress, and metastasis of breast cancer. Both receptors bind to the ligand, CXCL12 (SDF-1), which has been identified to play a crucial role in the metastasis of breast cancer cells. This study incorporated a T4 fibritin protein fused to CXCL12 into the tail domain of an adenovirus fiber to retarget the vector to the CXCR4 and CXCR7 chemokine receptors. We showed that the modified virus targets and infects CXCR4- and CXCR7-overexpressing breast cancer cells more efficiently than a wild-type control vector. End of Life Care Medical Education: 48 Hour Hospice Home Immersion Alters Students’ Lives

Introduction: Education and skill enhancement in palliative and end of life care is rarely part of the foundational medical education curriculum. The progress of student physicians tends to be measured by their ability to synthesize and demonstrate basic medical knowledge and clinical skills but offers little assessment of the maturation of attitudes or their values. The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM), immerses second year medical students in a hospice home for 48 hours to enhance students’ perspectives in interprofessional palliative and end of life care. Methods: This proj.ct utilized qualitative ethnographic and autobiographic research designs. Two female second year medical students (27 y/o & 26 y/o) were immersed for 48 hours into a local hospice home, sleeping in a bed where others had died, to answer the question: “What is it like for ME to live in the Hospice Home for 48 hours and how does this contribute to my future as a practitioner?” Data were collected in the form of j.urnal notes for pre-fieldwork, fieldwork, and post-fieldwork and included subj.ctive and obj.ctive reporting of observations, experiences, and patient/family encounters. Analyses included j.urnal review and thematic categorization and coding through content analysis. Results: Themes common to both students that factored in the research question and their prior stated interest areas of medical humanities and person-centered care at end of life were identified. Three themes were selected for this article: 1) Person-Centered Experiences, 2) Spectrum of Communication, and 3) Introspection: Attitudes and Values. The process of living in the hospice home for 48 hours revealed students’ attitudes about various disease processes, their personal experiences with death and dying, and their assumptions about how patients approach death. Conclusion: This Hospice Home Immersion proj.ct provided both an educational approach and learning environment that was effective
