In this paper,an improvement has been made to the approximation technique of a complex domain through the stair-step approach to have a considerable accuracy,minimize computational cost,and avoid the hardship of manual work.A novel stair-step representation algorithm is used in this regard,where the entire procedure is carried out through our developed MATLAB *** C-grid is used in our approximation with(1/120)°grid *** a test case,the method is applied to approximate the domain covering the area between 15°-23°N latitudes and 85°-95°E longitudes in the Bay of *** with the approximation of the land-sea interface,coastal stations are also *** land-sea interfaces and coastal stations are found to be in good agreement with the actual ones based on the similarity index,overlap fraction,and extra fraction *** method can be used for approximating an irregular geometric domain to employ the finite difference method in solving problems related to long *** a test case,shallow water equations in Cartesian coordinates are solved on the domain of interest for simulating water levels due to the nonlinear tide-surge interaction associated with the storms April 1991 and AILA,2009 along the coast of *** same input except for the discretized domain and bathymetry as that of Paul et al.(2016)is used in our *** results are found to be in reasonable agreement with the observed data procured from Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority.

Effect of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)on the morphology and physical properties of poly(vinyl alcohol)/sodium montmorillonite nanocomposite films

Nanocomposites of poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA),poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)(PVP) and sodium montmorillonite(Na+MMT) were prepared by solution mixing and then cast into films.X-ray diffraction analysis and images of transmission electron microscopy establish the formation of PVA/Na+MMT intercalated *** and highly intercalated PVA/PVP/Na+MMT nanocomposite formed in the presence of *** of PVP in PVA/Na+MMT matrix enhances the hydrogen bonding interactions between PVA and Na+MMT and thus increases the mechanical properties and thermal stability of PVA/PVP/Na+MMT nanocomposites compared to PVA/Na+MMT *** interactions between PVA,PVP and Na+MMT were established by the Fourier transform infrared *** moisture absorption tendency of both the PVA and PVA/PVP films reduced after the incorporation of Na+MMT at 75%constant relative *** scanning calorimetry studies show that the presence of PVP and Na+MMT both are responsible for reducing the heat of fusion,and crystallinity of *** flow behavior of the PVA,PVA/PVP and its nanocomposite solutions has been also *** vapor permeability of PVA/PVP/Na+MMT composite films decreased in the presence of nanoclay due to increasing tortuous paths for diffusion.

But the recent news of alleged plagiarism in institutes like Harvard and MIT shows that something is definitely wrong in the education sector. May ailments plague the education system, but what hits the education system most is the dropout. Many reasons are behind the dropouts, but with development of technology, the ills that plague the education system can be eradicated to a great extent. This paper attempts to provide a solution to certain ills of the education sector, riding on the robust and still developing mobile network system.

Synthetic Detergents (Surfactants) and Organochlorine Pesticide Signatures in Surface Water and Groundwater of Greater Kolkata, India

An assessment on the concentration of surfactants and pesticides of chlorinated hydrocarbon group in surface and groundwater, is made from Greater Kolkata located in the Western Ganga Delta, one of the largest urban agglomerate in Asia. Concentration of both anionic synthetic detergents and organochlorine pesticide resi-dues analysed from 54 and 19 sampling stations covering groundwater and surface water sources respec-tively, are generally found to be within the tolerance limit for human consumption. The concentration of synthetic detergent ranges from 0.084 to 0.425mg/l. Residues of organochlorine pesticides are analysed from different sources like tanks, lakes, rivers and groundwater. Lindane (0.01-0.43μg/l) and DDT (0.03-0.65 μg/l) are the most widely detected pesticide residues. Howerer, the two have not exceeded the limits for drinking anywhere. High value of aldrin and dieldrin (0.9μg/l) is obtained in the river Hugli at Barakpur-Seoraphuli, 20 km north of Kolkata. Likewise high value of Heptachloreis detected in a canal water sample at Palta (0.05 μg/l), a suburban area. Seasonally, the pesticide concentration in surface water is maximum during winter due to their higher application and minimum during monsoon. In groundwater, however, this relationship is reverse due to higher infiltration of surface water during monsoon.

苦苣苔科植物Lysionotus bijantiae的名实订正

通过查阅相关文献和标本,作者发现近期发表的苦苣苔科吊石苣苔属植物一新种——Lysionotus bijantiae D. Borah&A. Joe实为鉴定错误,应是汉克苣苔属的长圆叶汉克苣苔\[Henckelia oblongifolia (Roxb.)D. J. Middleton&Mich. M?ller\]\[原长圆叶唇柱苣苔Chirita oblongifolia (Roxb.) Sinclair\]。Lysionotus bijantiae的模式标本采集于中国西藏东南部地区的喜马拉雅南坡,该地区苦苣苔植物多样性较为丰富。作者因其花具2枚发育雄蕊而将其归于吊石苣苔属,花萼分裂不达基部而与吊石苣苔属其他相关种类比较,而忽略了其种子先端不具附属物的特征。通过电镜扫描观察到,该种在墨脱境内居群以及其模式产地居群的种子均无附属物,从而证实了该种不是吊石苣苔属的物种,而是属于汉克苣苔属。因此,作者将Lysionotus bijantiae处理为Henckelia oblongifolia的新异名,同时提供了长圆叶汉克苣苔的彩色图片(含种子扫描图)、选定模式标本,并给出了吊石苣苔属和汉克苣苔属的区分方法和主要识别特征,不仅为这两个属的物种鉴定提供了参考,而且避免更多的物种分类混淆问题出现。

Determination of Coke,Pitch and Pores/Cracks in Green Anode by Image Analysis

Carbon anodes are an essential part of the primary aluminum production. They are made of coal tar pitch, calcined petroleum coke, recycled anodes and butts. As pitch acts as a binder for the anode, its proper distribution in a green anode has a great impact on the properties of the baked anode. Information on cracks in anodes is important for the quality of the baked anode. There is presently no reliable method available to analyze and quantify the amount of coke, pitch and pores/cracks in a green anode sample. In this article, an image analysis technique has been described, that can analyze as well as quantify the area percentage of pores/cracks and weight percentages of pitch and coke. The novelty of the method is its capacity to differentiate the different components of anode.

目的:观察印度草药方Body Revival(BR)对人类血小板聚集及异丙肾上腺素引起的大鼠心肌缺血的作用。方法:BR悬浮液(分别含BR10、20和30μg)与富血小板血浆混合后,37℃下培养30min,分别将二磷酸腺苷(20mmol/L)或胶原蛋白(2μg)加入混合液中,与混合了等体积的BR悬浮液的贫血小板血浆对比观察BR对于血小板凝集的作用。Wistar大鼠分为4组以检测BR对于异丙肾上腺素引起的心肌缺血的作用。使用标准的商业化试剂盒测量大鼠血清中肌酐激酶、天冬氨酸氨基转移酶及丙氨酸氨基转移酶的水平,同时测量大鼠血清中氮氧化物的含量及大鼠心肌中脂质过氧化物及蛋白质的含量。结果:BR能够剂量依赖性地抑制二磷酸腺苷或胶原蛋白引起的人类血小板聚集。此外,BR对于异丙肾上腺素引起的大鼠心肌缺血具有保护作用。与对照组比较,BR能够显著降低大鼠血清中肌酐激酶、天冬氨酸氨基转移酶、丙氨酸氨基转移酶和氮氧化物的含量以及大鼠心肌中脂质过氧化物的含量(P<0.01)。结论:BR能够抑制人类血小板聚集并对异丙肾上腺素引起的大鼠心肌缺血具有保护作用。

Herpesvirus-associated ubiquitin-specific protease(HAUSP)is a USP family *** is a protein of immense biological importance as it is involved in several cellular processes,including host-virus interactions,oncogenesis and tumor suppression,DNA damage and repair processes,DNA dynamics and epigenetic modulations,regulation of gene expression and protein function,spatio-temporal distribution,and immune *** its discovery in the late 1990s as a protein interacting with a herpes virus regulatory protein,extensive studies have assessed its complex roles in p53-MDM2-related networks,identified numerous additional interacting partners,and elucidated the different roles of HAUSP in the context of cancer,development,and metabolic and neurological *** analyses have provided new insights into its biochemical and functional *** this review,we provide a comprehensive account of our current knowledge about emerging insights into HAUSP in physiology and diseases,which shed light on fundamental biological questions and promise to provide a potential target for therapeutic intervention.

S-adenosyl-L-methionine, trehalose and oleanolic acid in few plants

S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine (AdoMet), S-Adenosyl- L-Homocysteine (AdoHcy), adenosine, trehalose and oleanolic acid were measured in six medicinal herbs and three spices. The findings showed that AdoMet content was forty six fold higher in the leaves of Catharanthus roseus as compared with average AdoMet content of rest of the plants. In comparison to other plants, Withania somnifera had very high AdoHcy: Ado-Met and adenosine: AdoMet ratios indicating it may have contained high AdoMet. Trehalose was found to be twenty fold and nine fold higher in bulb of Allium cepa and root of Withania somnifera respectively with respect to average trehalose content of rest of the plants. Ocimum sanctum appeared to be a rich source of oleanolic acid. It appeared from our study that Catharanthus roseus, Allium cepa and Ocimum sanctum could be utilized as natural sources of AdoMet, trehalose and oleanolic acid respectively.
