Multimodal chemo-/magneto-/phototaxis of 3G CNT-bots to power fuel cells

We report the development of a 3G microswimmer,namely,CNT-bot,capable of undergoing acid-,alkali-,magneto-and phototaxis inside acidic or alkaline baths of peroxide fuel and/or *** use of carboxyl-functionalised multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs)facilitated the propulsion of CNT-bots in an alkaline-water solution by ejecting carbon-dioxide ***,doping of magnetite nanoparticles(FeONPs),ferrous ions(Fe^(2+))and titanium dioxide nanoparticles(TiONPs)induces magnetic,chemical and photonic modes of *** FeONPs stimulated magnetotaxis at a rate of up to~10 body lengths per second under the influence of a bar magnet,chemotaxis of a similar speed in a peroxide fuel was achieved by bubble-propulsion of oxygen gas originating from the Fenton *** addition,the light-stimulated photo-Fenton reaction led to phototaxis of CNT-bots.A thin coating of magnesium imparted a half-faced Janus appearance to the CNT-bots,which facilitated motion in normal or acidic water media through the ejection of hydrogen gas *** chemotaxis could be transformed into pH-stimulated directional motion by establishing an acid or alkali concentration gradient across the peroxide and/or water *** capacity of CNT-bots to produce oxygen(hydrogen)bubbles in peroxide(acidic water)fuel was exploited to power a PEM fuel cell to generate *** pure oxygen and hydrogen gases generated by CNT-bots in separate chambers were fed directly into the fuel cell in which the incessant motions of the particle facilitated the creation and release of the pure gases to achieve on-demand electricity *** motor could also induce dye degradation through advanced oxidation owing to the production of intermediate hydroxyl radicals during the Fenton reaction.

Extreme exposure of fluoride and arsenic contamination in shallow coastal aquifers of the Ganges delta,transboundary of the Indo-Bangladesh region

Globally,shallow aquifer groundwater(GW)has been severely affected in recent decades for both geogenic and anthropogenic *** hydro-geochemical characteristics of the GW change inconsistently with the addition of unwanted inorganic trace elements into the GW aquifer of the Indo-Bangladesh delta region(IBDR),such as arsenic(As)along with fluoride(F-)*** GW can have a negative impact on drinking water supplies and agricultural *** pollution can have serious adverse effects on the environment and human ***,the GW quality of this region is deteriorating progressively,and human health threatening by various life-threatening ***,the current study concentrated on the GW quality evaluation and prediction of possible health issues in the IBDR due to elevated contamination of As along with F-within GW aquifers by considering sixteen *** survey-based statistical methods such as entropy quality index(EWQI)combined with health risk index(HRI)was implemented for evaluating the As and F-sensitivity with the help of correlation testing and principal component *** study's outcome explains that a substantial portion of the IBDR has been vastly experiencing inferior GW quality,environmental issues,and health-related problems in dry and wet seasons,correspondingly for As and *** diagram verified the suitability of water that almost 55%of GW across the study area’s aquifers are unfit for drinking as well as cultivation of *** analysis and the Monte Carlo simulation method were also applied to assess the contaminant's concentration level and probable health risk *** present study concludes that the elevated exposure of As and F-pollution has to be monitored regularly and prevent unwanted GW contamination through implementing sustainable approaches and policies to fulfil the sustainable development goal 6(SDG-6)till 2030,ensuring the most basic human right of clean,safe,and hy

The propagation of a probe field through a four-level Y-type atomic system is described in the presence of two additional coherent radiation fields,namely,the control field and the coupling *** expression for the probe response is derived analytically from the optical Bloch equations under steady state condition to study the absorptive properties of the system under probe field propagation through an ensemble of stationary atoms as well as in a Doppler broadened atomic vapor *** most striking result is the conversion of electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT)into electromagnetically induced absorption(EIA)as we start switching from weak probe regime to strong probe *** dependence of this conversion on residual Doppler averaging due to wavelength mismatch is also shown by choosing the coupling transition as a Rydberg transition.

Effect of residual Doppler averaging on the probe absorption in cascade type system: A comparative study

Effect of residual Doppler averaging on the probe absorption in an alkali vapor medium in the presence of a coherent pump beam is studied analytically for the Ξ type system. A coherent probe field is assumed to connect the ground level with the intermediate level whereas a coherent control beam is supposed to act between the intermediate energy level and the uppermost level. Optical Bloch equations（OBE） for a three-level Ξ type system and a four-level Ξ type system are derived by using density matrix formalism. These equations are solved by an analytic method to determine the probe response, which not only depends on the wavelength difference between the control（pump） field and the probe field but shows substantially different features depending on whether the wavelength of the control field is greater than that of the probe field or the reverse. The effect of temperature on probe response is also shown. Enhancement in probe absorption and additional features are noticed under a strong probe limit at room temperature. The four-level Ξ type system has two ground levels and this leads to substantial modification in the simulated probe absorption as compared to the three-level system.

Empirical approaches in prediction of reservoir sediment distribution——An experience of 57 reservoirs in the USA and India

An accurate prediction of sediment distribution may minimize economic losses through proper and timely planning of the functional activities of a *** study assesses different temporal and spatial factors that affect for sediment deposition in a reservoir and its *** study also focuses on evaluation of two popular distribution prediction methodologies,Area Increment and Empirical Area Reduction,based on experience with sediment distribution in 57 reservoirs in the USA and India.A non-iterative processed empirical distribution model(NPEDM) and a linear regression trend model(LRTM) are proposed to predict sediment *** contributing area and inflow entering a reservoir are found to be the most significant factors affecting in reservoir sediment *** to the Empirical Area Reduction method,the Area Increment method provided better *** reservoir classification approach and empirical design distribution type curves given by Borland and Miller(1960) are found to be *** factor values for different periods indicate that reservoir shape(type) changes with ***,long term prediction is not desirable in Type-Ⅱ & Ⅲ reservoirs using the Empirical Area Reduction *** developed the NPEDM shows reasonably good prediction of sediment *** NPEDM is very easy to apply and can be used in any reservoir of any *** of the trend of sediment distribution obtained from the LRTM indicates an accurate short term prediction in a few reservoirs as causes of temporal and spatial variations of sediment distribution including the factors of uncertainties of sediment deposition are implicit within the methodology.

Impact of temperature and precipitation lapse rate on hydrological modelling over Himalayan Gandak River Basin

The hydrology of Himalayan region is influenced by temperature lapse rate(TLAPS)and precipitation lapse rate(PLAPS).Therefore,hydrological modeling considering TLAPS and PLAPS is crucial to manage the water resources in these *** this research,Himalayan Gandak River basin is considered as the study area where TLAPS and PLAPS vary significantly due to high altitude of *** assess the impact of TLAPS and PLAPS on water balance components,Soil Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)model was calibrated(2000-2007)and validated(2008-2014)on daily time step for three projects i.e.,Reference Project(RP),Snowmelt Project(SP)and distributed elevation band snowmelt project(SWAT-ETISM).The analysis discloses that SWAT-ETISM model(which has TLAPS and PLAPS parameters)outperforms the RP and the SP models in predicting streamflow with improved statistical indicators R2=0.88,NSE=0.84 and PBIAS=***,it was observed that SWAT-ETISM model comprehensively improved the streamflow statistics by improving the snow water equivalent and water balance components through the consideration of TLAPS and PLAPS values for the ***,the proposed SWAT-ETISM model can be used for estimation of the water budget at the high-altitude and data scarce alpine Himalayan regions and worldwide,where PLAPS and TLAPS are substantial due to altitudinal variation.

Thermal analysis of a constructal T-shaped porous fin with simultaneous heat and mass transfer

The present work establishes an analytical model for computing the temperature distribution, fin efficiency and optimum design parameters of a constructal T-shaped porous fin operating in fully wet condition. For more practical results, this study considers a cubic polynomial relationship between the humidity ratio of saturated air and the corresponding fin surface temperature. The temperature distribution has been determined by solving the highly non-linear governing equations using a semi-analytical transformation technique called Differential Transform Method. A comparison of the results with that of a numerical model shows that this transformation method is a very efficient and convenient tool for solution of non-linear problems. The effects of various geometric, thermo-physical and psychometric parameters on the temperature distribution, fin efficiency and optimum design condition have been investigated. Also, a comparison has been presented between solid and porous fins and the results point out that by selecting an appropriate value of porosity, the heat transfer rate can be increased than the corresponding solid fin.

Propagating disturbances along a coronal loop from simultaneous EUV imaging and spectroscopic observations

Propagating disturbances（PDs） were studied along an active region loop using simultaneous imaging and spectroscopy. An image sequence recorded in the Fe Ⅸ/Fe X 171  channel, from TRACE and spectral data in the Si Ⅻ 520.6  line obtained from CDS/SOHO, are analyzed. A space-time map constructed from the TRACE image sequence shows the presence of PDs close to the loop foot point propagating with an apparent speed of 39 km s-1. The periodicity was found to be 5.4 *** corresponding spectroscopic data from CDS, at a location away from the foot point, show oscillations in all three line parameters roughly at the same period. At locations farther from the foot point, the line width oscillation seems to disappear while the Doppler velocity oscillation becomes prominent. We attribute this to the signature of propagating slow waves that get affected by flows/other events close to the foot point. Spectral line profiles do not show much asymmetry, however, it is difficult to infer anything due to the broadened Gaussian shape of the CDS line profiles.

Non-timber forest products and their contribution to healthcare and livelihood security among the Karbi tribe in Northeast India

Introduction:Non-timber forest products(NTFPs)have been an essential source for food,medicine,and handicraft products among the indigenous populations living in forested areas for *** research on the restoration of the importance of NTFPs and their value addition could potentially guide the development of new nutraceutical products in the *** present study aims to investigate the diversity of non-timber forest products of the Karbi Anglong District of Assam in Northeast ***:Multistage sampling technique was used for the study.A total of 70 respondents from 7 randomly selected villages were interviewed with a well-developed semi-structured questionnaire to explore the utilisation of *** analysis was done using four quantitative indices:(a)use report(UR),(b)use value(UV),(c)informant consensus factor(ICF),and(d)fidelity level(FL).Results:A total of 138 plant species belonging to 59 families distributed in 110 genera were recorded and identified as NTFPs of 1 type or the *** include 42%having ethnomedicinal use,33%as edible forest products,15%as household building materials and utensils,6%as spices and condiments,and 4%as herbal *** the medicinal plant species,Abroma augustum(L.)L.f.,Amaranthus spinosus L,and Geophila repens(L.)*** the highest ICF and ***:The present study confirms that NTFPs have played an essential role in the healthcare and livelihood of the indigenous people of the Karbi tribe throughout their generations and continue to do ***,the species with high value for both ICF and FL could be used for the development of new,cheap,effective,and eco-friendly herbal formulations for healthcare management leading to economic and social benefits to the indigenous ***,anthropogenic pressure and overexploitation of NTFPs may lead to the loss of this precious natural resource from this area.
