Simulation Nutrient Load under Climate Change Condition and Deforestation Scenarios in Phu Luong Watershed, Viet Nam

The purpose of this paper is to apply ＂Soil and Water Assessment Tool （SWAT）＂ model to simulate the impacts of climate change and deforestation on nutrient （nitrogen and phosphorus） yield from Phu Luong watershed in Northern Viet Nam. Among the three climate change scenarios B1, B2 and A2, which represented low, medium, and high levels of greenhouse gas emission respectively, were set up for Viet Nam. The B2 scenario was selected for this study. Two land use scenarios （SI-2030 and S2-2050 which converted 4.43%. and 13.40% forest-mixed land into agricultural land, respectively） were formulated by combination with climatic change in SWAT simulation. In B2 climate change scenario, mean temperature increases 0.7 ℃ （2030） and 1.3 ℃（2050）; annual rainfall increases 2.1% （2030） and 3.80% （2050） with respect to baseline scenario. The results showed that monthly Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient of Efficiency （NSE） ranged from 0.81 to 0.96 and percent bias （PB1AS） ranged from -7.88 to 9.38. Additionally, SWAT simulation results also showed that climate change and deforestation caused significant percentage of changes in total N and P loads within Phu Luong watershed.

Background In Viet Nam, tuberculosis (TB) represents a devastating life-event with an exorbitant price tag, partly due to lost income from daily directly observed therapy in public sector care. Thus, persons with TB may seek care in the private sector for its flexibility, convenience, and privacy. Our study aimed to measure income changes, costs and catastrophic cost incurrence among TB-affected households in the public and private *** Between October 2020 and March 2022, we conducted 110 longitudinal patient cost interviews, among 50 patients privately treated for TB and 60 TB patients treated by the National TB Program (NTP) in Ha Noi, hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. Using a local adaptation of the WHO TB patient cost survey tool, participants were interviewed during the intensive phase, continuation phase and post-treatment. We compared income levels, direct and indirect treatment costs, catastrophic costs using Wilcoxon rank-sum and chi-squared tests and associated risk factors between the two cohorts using multivariate *** The pre-treatment median monthly household income was significantly higher in the private sector versus NTP cohort (USD 868 vs USD 578;P=0.010). However, private sector treatment was also significantly costlier (USD 2075 vs USD 1313;P=0.005), driven by direct medical costs which were 4.6 times higher than costs reported by NTP participants (USD 754 vs USD 164;P<0.001). This resulted in no significant difference in catastrophic costs between the two cohorts (Private: 55% vs NTP: 52%;P=0.675). Factors associated with catastrophic cost included being a single-person household [adjusted odds ratio [(aOR=13.71; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.36–138.14;P=0.026], unemployment during treatment (aOR=10.86; 95%CI: 2.64–44.60;P<0.001) and experiencing TB-related stigma (aOR=37.90; 95%CI: 1.72–831.73;P=0.021).Conclusions Persons with TB in Viet Nam face similarly high risk of catastrophic costs whether treated in the

In this study, a novel layer-by-layer polyaniline/graphene （PANi/Gr） structure for electrochemical detec- tion of atrazine was developed. Gr film was synthesized by thermal chemical vapor deposition （CVD） method and transferred onto the PANi-predeposited microelectrode. The properties of PANi/Gr film were thoroughly investigated by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and Raman techniques. The most attractive feature of this system is a suitable microenvironment, which could provide an amplifi- cation of the conductive signal, thus may contribute to enhancing electron transfer and subsequently improve the sensitivity in electrochemical measurements. With low detection limit （- 43 × 10 -12 g/L）, ac-ceptable stability and good reproducibility, the proposed electrochemical immunosensor could be advantageously extended for multiplexed detection of other agents of environmental pollution.

Assesment of Frequency-Magnitude of Extreme Rainfall Events-Case Study of the MeKong River Delta

Extreme rainfall events are primary natural hazards, which cause a severe threat to people and their properties in populated cities, which are normally located in coastal areas in Vietnam. Analysing these events by using a data series observed over years will support us to draw a picture of how the climate change impact on local environments. The purpose of this report is to understand the characteristics of the extreme rainfall events in MEKONG river delta （south VietNam）. Daily rainfall data in the period of 30 years for a meteorological station in each area were collected from the Vietnam National Hydro-meteorological Service. The extreme rainfall events were defined as those exceeding the 95th percentile for each station. The analytical results show that the rainfall values （95th percentile） are 37.4 mm/day at Nam Can station, 27 mm/day at My thanh station, 22.4 mm/day at Hoa binh station, 23.8 mm/day at binh Dai station and 22.7 mm/day at Ben Trai station. The highest rainfall data ever recorded are 246.4 mm/day （Nam Can）, 174.5 mm/day （My thanh）, 179 mm/day （Hoa Bin_h）, 187.3 mm/day （binh Dai） and 136.3 mm/day （Ben Trai） during 1983-2012. The result of the Mann-Kendall tests show that there was a significant creasing of the rainfall at Nam Can, My thanh station in two periods （1983-2012, 1998-2012） while no clear trend of the rainfall was recoreded at Hoa Birth, binh Dai, Ben Trai station. In order to estimate the return period of the extreme rainfall events, the method General Extreme Value Distribution was used to calculate frequent distribution. The magnitudes of daily maximum rainfall were from 2 to 100 years. The results of return period show that maximum rainfalls are 46.6 mm at Nam Can station （highest） and 31.4 mm at Hoa Birth station （lowest） during 50 years. Similarly, maximum rainfalls are expected to be about 55.1 mm at Nam Can station and 37.2 mm at Hoa Birth station for 100 years.
