The pace of society development is faster than ever before,and the smart city paradigm has also emerged,which aims to enable citizens to live in more sustainable cities that guarantee well-being and a comfortable living *** has been done by a network of new technologies hosted in real time to track the activities and provide smart solutions for the incoming requests or problems of the *** of the most often used methodologies for creating a smart city is the Internet of Things(loT).Therefore,the IoT-enabled smart city research topic,which consists of many different domains such as transportation,healthcare,and agriculture,has recently attracted increasing attention in the research ***,advances in artificial intelligence(Al)significantly contribute to the growth of *** this paper,we first present the smart city concept,the background of smart city development and the components of the IoT-based smart *** is followed up by a literature review of the research literature on the most recent IoT-enabled smart cities developments and breakthroughs empowered by AI techniques to highlight the current stage,major trends and unsolved challenges of adopting Al-driven IoT technologies for the establishment of desirable smart ***,we summarize the paper with a discussion of future research to provide recommendations for research direction in the smart city domain.

Background: Confusion often arises in caring for diabetic foot infections and ulcers, especially with antimicrobials;we aim to shed light on this entity and alert healthcare workers to its stewardship. methods: Records were reviewed between February 2016 and September 2023. Data for patients diagnosed with diabetes and foot ulcers, infected or not, were examined following ICD 9 search terms. Records for patients were included if they were prediabetic/diabetic adults with foot ulcers, more than 18 years old, and on antidiabetic treatment. Patients were excluded if they insulin resistant, with normal HgbA1c levels, wheel-chair dependent, bed-bound, non-diabetic patients, diabetic patients who had vascular lower limb surgery earlier to ulcers, diabetic patients who had aortocoronary bypass, deep venous thrombosis within six months, malignancy, and severe clinical depression. A modified IWGDF/IDSA guidelines definitions for DFI and DFU was considered. Statistical analysis was done using R programming. Statistical methods were employed as appropriate, and a significant P-value was considered for P Results: most characteristics were well balanced between DFI and DFU, on imaging osteomyelitis and tissue swelling were significantly more in DFI. Endovascular radiological procedures showed angiograms to be considerably more in DFI, while angioplasty was more in DFU, in addition to smoking. Bacteremia was uncommon, and swab cultures were mostly polymicrobial in both ulcers;no clear association with blood bacteria was detected with the polymicrobial growth, though few were concordant. Antimicrobials prescribed for both ulcers were not statistically different except for carbapenems, which were more in DFI (P Conclusion: Attention should be paid to best practices while caring for diabetic ulcers. These include swab culture interpretations, the use of antimicrobials, and plan management according to DFI or DFU to utilize either local care or combination with antimicrobials.

Dates are an important part of human *** are high in essential nutrients and provide a number of health *** fruits are also known to protect against a number of diseases,including cancer and heart *** fruits have several sizes,colors,tastes,and *** are a lot of challenges facing the date *** of the most significant challenges is the classification and sorting of *** there is no public dataset for date fruits,which is a major limitation in order to improve the performance of convolutional neural networks(CNN)models and avoid the overfitting *** this paper,an augmented date fruits dataset was developed using Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks(DCGAN)and CycleGAN approach to augment our collected date fruit *** augmentation is required to address the issue of a restricted number of images in our datasets,as well as to establish a balanced *** are three types of dates in our proposed dataset:Sukkari,Ajwa,and *** dataset augmentation,we train our created dataset using ResNet152V2 and CNN models to assess the classification process for our three categories in the *** train these two models,we start with the original ***,the models were trained using the DCGAN-generated dataset,followed by the CycleGAN-generated *** resulting results demonstrated that when using the ResNet152V2model,the CycleGAN-generated dataset had the highest classification performance with 96.8%accuracy,followed by the CNN model with 94.3%accuracy.

Latency-Aware Dynamic Second Offloading Service in SDN-Based Fog Architecture

Task offloading is a key strategy in Fog Computing (FC). Thedefinition of resource-constrained devices no longer applies to sensors andInternet of Things (IoT) embedded system devices alone. Smart and mobileunits can also be viewed as resource-constrained devices if the power, cloudapplications, and data cloud are included in the set of required resources. Ina cloud-fog-based architecture, a task instance running on an end device mayneed to be offloaded to a fog node to complete its execution. However, ina busy network, a second offloading decision is required when the fog nodebecomes overloaded. The possibility of offloading a task, for the second time,to a fog or a cloud node depends to a great extent on task importance, latencyconstraints, and required resources. This paper presents a dynamic service thatdetermines which tasks can endure a second offloading. The task type, latencyconstraints, and amount of required resources are used to select the offloadingdestination node. This study proposes three heuristic offloading *** algorithm targets a specific task type. An overloaded fog node can onlyissue one offloading request to execute one of these algorithms accordingto the task offloading priority. Offloading requests are sent to a SoftwareDefined Networking (SDN) controller. The fog node and controller determinethe number of offloaded tasks. Simulation results show that the average timerequired to select offloading nodes was improved by 33% when compared tothe dynamic fog-to-fog offloading algorithm. The distribution of workloadconverges to a uniform distribution when offloading latency-sensitive nonurgenttasks. The lowest offloading priority is assigned to latency-sensitivetasks with hard deadlines. At least 70% of these tasks are offloaded to fognodes that are one to three hops away from the overloaded node.

In petroleum-producing territories of West Siberia(Russia),oil well gas flares have a thermal effect on nearby plant *** communities can be used as models for studying plant acclimation to global *** the present study on the effect of the hydrothermal regime at the flare sites on mesophyll and stomatal functional traits of Betula pubescens,leaves were collected from trees at250 m(control site[CS]),200,150 and 100 m(maximum impact site[mIS])from a *** the CS to mIS site,the average annual air temperature increased by 0.5℃and bog water level decreased by 17 *** plants from the mIS,stomata were 16%smaller and density was 20%lower compared to those at the CS,resulting in lower maximum stomatal conductance in plants from the mIS(mean±SE:mIS 0.84±0.05 mol·m^(-2)s^(-1),CS 1.24±0.06 mol·m^(-2)s^(-1);F=12.6,Pmesophyll cell volume was 1.9 times lower at mIS than at *** numbers per cell also declined with distance from the flares,from 21(mIS)to18(CS;F=15.6,Pme was 24%higher at the CS,whereas the number of mesophyll cells and chloroplasts numbers per unit leaf area were 1.9 and 1.8 times higher at the mIS than at the CS,*** a result,leaves from the mIS had a large total mesophyll cell(Ames/A)and chloroplast(Achl/A)surface area per unit leaf area,resulting in a 46%increase in mesophyll conductance in plants from the ***,structural changes in leaf epidermis consisted of a decrease in stomatal size and number,could lower transpiration losses with higher temperatures and less *** compensate for the reduction in leaf conductance due to a decrease in stomatal conductance under these conditions,an increase in the number of mesophyll cells and chloroplasts per unit area provides a greater gas-exchange area and mesophyll conductance.

Background:Coarctation of the aorta is a congenital heart disease that sometimes remains clinically silent until adulthood,usually presenting with arterial *** is well known that after coarctation treatment,many patients remain hypertensive despite successful *** this study we approached the predictors and effects of residual hypertension after successful coarctation ***:It was a cross sectional observational study involving 50 patients who underwent Coarctation repair/angioplasty in Ain Shams university *** divided the patients into two groups(hypertensive and normotensive)and we studied their demographic data(e.g.,age,gender,age at first repair,follow up period,etc.)to conclude the possible predictors of persistent hypertension in such *** also performed full echocardiographic assessment including 3D speckle tracking echocardiography to detect subtle changes in left ventricular systolic ***:Hypertensive patients had significantly higher BmI(29.1 kg/m^(2))as compared to normotensives(24 kg/m^(2)),pmeasures(Global area strain,global circumferential strain and global longitudinal strain).The incidence of bicuspid aortic valve was significantly higher in the hypertensive group,yet it was not an independent predictor of persistent ***:The predictors for residual hypertension post successful CoA repair were late intervention and higher *** aortic valve was more common in the hypertensive *** the effects of such disease domain,treated CoA patients with persistent hypertension tended to have higher LV mass index and lower values of LV deformation.

A series of Dy^(3+)-activated phosphors with the general formula LiGd_(9)(SiO_(4))6-x(GeO_(4))xO_(2):Dy^(3+)(0≤x≤3)characterized by an apatite-type structure were successfully synthesized via a simple solid-state technique involving a partial substitution of[SiO_(4)]^(4-)with[GeO_(4)]^(4-)*** effects of homovalent[GeO_(4)]^(4-)-[SiO_(4)]^(4-)substitution on the crystal structure,electronic structure,luminescence properties and thermal performance of LiGd_(9)(SiO_(4))6-x(GeO_(4))xO_(2):Dy^(3+)phosphors were studied in *** phases and microstructure were performed by using X-ray diffraction(XRD)Rietveld refinement method and scanning electron microscopy(SEm)*** substitution of smaller[SiO_(4)]^(4-)ions by larger[GeO_(4)]^(4-)ones makes their unit cell parameters increase gradually,and their band gaps *** photoluminescence spectra of LiGd_(9)(SiO_(4))6-x(GeO_(4))xO_(2):Dy^(3+)(0≤x≤3)exhibit obvious emission peaks located at 477,573 and 675 nm within a visible wavelength region,resulting in an excellent white ***,the I573nm/I477nm values of LiGd_(9)(SiO_(4))6-x(GeO_(4))xO_(2):Dy^(3+)(0≤x≤3)become larger with the partial substitution of[SiO_(4)]^(4-)by[GeO_(4)]^(4-),and their CIE chromaticity coordinates exhibit a yellow shift.

Objective:To explore the effect of Persea americana supplementation on inflammation,oxidative stress,and lipid profiles in ovariectomized rats fed with a high-fat diet and exposed to ***:The control group was sham operated,while groups 2-5 were ovariectomized and fed a high-fat *** 4 and 5 were exposed toγ-radiation(1 Gy/week for 5 weeks)after *** 3 and 5 were treated with 1 mL/250 g/day of Persea americana for one *** levels of estrogen,alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,cholesterol,triglycerides and lipoproteins were ***,hepatic oxidative stress,inflammatory and fibrogenic markers were ***:Persea americana treatment reduced the oxidative stress markers as well as the levels of triglyceride,total cholesterol,and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,which in turn lowered hepatic fat ***,it suppressed hepatic inflammatory mediators(interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-α,and C-reactive protein)and downregulated pro-fibrogenic markers(transforming growth factor-βand tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1).Conclusions:Persea americana provides protection against ovariectomy,and gamma radiation-mediated hepatic inflammation not only through its antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,lipid-lowering effect but also by modulating the fibrogenic markers.
