Partnerships between U.S. universities and industries have existed for several decades and in recent years have become generally more varied, wider in scope, more aggressive and experimental and higher in public visibility. In addition, in the last few decades, public and private interests have advocated for government policies and laws to globally promote the commercialization of university science. This paper examines the persistence or convergence of the two cultures of science and the implications of this commercialization for university-industry relationships in agriculture biotechnology. The perceptions and values of over 200 U.S. university and industry scientists, managers and administrators who participate in or oversee research collaborations in agricultural biotechnology were analyzed. The findings revealed that the participants in these research relationships continue to perceive very distinct cultures of science and identify a wide range of concerns and disadvantages of these partnerships. Several actions were discussed to ensure that the two cultures serve complementary roles and that they maximize the public benefits from these increasing collaborations.

Bispecific T-cell-engaging antibodies(BiTEs)convey antigenic information from cancer to the T-lymphocyte-associated CD3 complex,thus redirecting immune effector cells to induce target cell *** antigenic information from transformed tissues is rarely unambiguous,we recently introduced novel T-cell-engaging antibody fragments called hemibodies for the combinatorial,ultraprecise targeting of cancer.1 Here,we report the unprecedented enhancement of the plasticity of immunological synapse(IS)formation and variant signaling topology at the cancer cell–T-cell interface induced by hemibodies compared to that induced by BiTEs.

Serotonin is one of the significant signaling molecules used by several neural systems in the gut and brain. This study aimed to develop a novel and potent tracer for targeting, detecting, and imaging serotonin receptors(5-HTRs), which is a promising tool in the determination of the receptor’s function and relationship with the diseases related to serotonin and its receptor dysfunction. Serotonin was effectively labeled via a direct electrophilic substitutional reaction using an oxidizing agent such as iodogen with 125I in a neutral medium, and 125I-serotonin was achieved with a maximum labeling yield of 91 ± 0.63% with in vitro stability up to 24 h. Molecular modeling was conducted to signify 125I-serotonin structure and confirm that the radiolabeling process did not affect serotonin binding ability to its receptors. Biodistribution studies show that the maximum gastro intestinal tract uptake of 125I-serotonin was 17.8 ± 0.93% ID/organ after 30 min postinjection and the tracer’s ability to pass the blood–brain barrier. Thus, 125I-serotonin is a promising single photon emission computed tomography tracer in the detection of 5 HTRs.

哈萨克斯坦巴克斯是集通灵、医治、传统艺术表演于一体的古老宗教工作者。巴克斯音乐是在巴克斯宗教仪式活动中使用形成的音乐种类,具有早期萨满教音乐的文化功能,形成基于哈萨克族古老的民间传统信仰,并蕴含伊斯兰教的鲜明文化特质。集多宗教特质融于一身的巴克斯音乐,是认识和研究复杂多变型宗教文化体的难得文本。本文以哈萨克斯坦巴克斯音乐的宗教观念、宗教行为和宗教制度的三层面多内涵为依据,详细阐明了其特有的宗教文化属性,并试图说明该文化现象的形成缘由。

巴克斯是哈萨克族集通灵、政权、医治、传统艺术表演于一体的古老宗教职业人,其产生历史悠久,对民族文化与社会发展影响很大。巴克斯音乐是形成于巴克斯宗教活动中的音乐,其功能除了祈祷与献祭外,还具有与神界连接、沟通的功能。与哈萨克传统音乐其他类型不同的突出特点是,建构于双声结构概念之上的“双声异态”,与民间信仰中的宇宙观有密切联系。文章根据笔者在中、哈两国田野调查所获一手材料和相关学者研究的二手资料,拟探讨巴克斯音乐较为典型的本体特征,并进一步分析萨满宇宙观对巴克斯音乐“双声异态”特质形成的影响。

Crypto-Giardia antigen rapid test versus conventional modified Ziehl-Neelsen acid fast staining method for diagnosis of cryptosporidiosis

Objectove:To evaluate the validity of Crypto-Giardia antigen rapid test(CA-RT) in comparison with the conventional mollified Ziehl-Neelsen acid fast(MZN-AF) staining method for the diagnosis of ***:Fifteen preserved stool samples from previously confirmed infections were used as positive controls and 40 stool samples from healthy people were used as negative control.A total of 85 stool samples were collected from suspected patients with cryptosporidiosis over 6 months during the period from January till *** stud) was conducted in the department of parasitology,central *** Specialist Hospital, *** *** samples were subjected to CA-RT and conventional MZN-AF staining *** parameters including sensitivity(SN).specificity(SP),accuracy index (AI).positive predictive value(PPV).and negative predictive value(NPV) were evaluated for both ***:Out of 15[lositive controls,CA-RT detected 13(86.7%) while MZN-AF detected 11(73.3%) positive ***-RT detected no positive case in 40 normal controls but MZN-AF detected 2(5%) as positive *** on the results,the *** and NPV were high in CA-RT than MZN-AF staining method,ie..86.7%vs.73.3%.100%vs.95%.96.4%vs.89.1%. 100%vs.84.6%and 95.2%vs.90.5%.*** of a total of 85 suspected *** detected 7(8.2%) but MZN-AF detected 6(7.1%) cases as ***:CA-RT immunoassay is more valid and reliable than MZN-AF staining method.

Intraluminal stenting versus external ligation of Ahmed glaucoma valve in prevention of postoperative hypotony

AIM:To compare intraluminal stenting and external ligation of Ahmed glaucoma valves(AGV)for refractory glaucoma management and postoperative hypotony ***:This randomized prospective blind study included 30 eyes of 25 patients(age range:44-56y)with refractory *** study was conducted from September 2018 to January *** study included two groups,AGV with intraluminal stenting group(n=15 eyes)and AGV with external ligation group(n=15 eyes).Follow-up period was one year *** primary outcome was intraocular pressure(IOP)and its association with the number of postoperative glaucoma ***≤21 mm Hg without medications indicated complete success while IOP≤21 mm Hg with medications indicated qualified success;and IOP<6 mm Hg was defined as ***:After a year of follow-up,IOP was significantly reduced in the intraluminal stenting group than in the external ligation group(11.67±0.89 vs 14.2±4.0 mm Hg,respectively,P=0.024).Postoperative hypotony was more common in the external ligation group(2 cases,13.33%)than in the intraluminal stenting group(1 case,6.67%).CONCLUSION:Application of intraluminal stenting or external ligation during AGV surgery usually prevents postoperative hypotony(transient and persistent)that occurs in conventional AGV surgery.

Effects of Glutamine Supplementation on Patients Undergoing Abdominal Surgery

Objective To evaluate the effects of supplementation of glutamine (GLN) on maintaining glutathione (GSH) level, immune system function, liver function, and clinical outcome of patients receiving abdominal operation. Methods Forty patients undergoing elective abdominal surgical treatment were randomly divided into 2 groups: study group (n=20) and control group (n=20). All patients received total parenteral nutrition (TPN) for up to 7 days during perioperative period. The study group received TPN supplemented with GLN dipeptide while the control group received TPN without GLN dipeptide. Patients in both groups received equivalent nitrogen and caloric intake. Blood sample was taken on preoperative day, and the 1st,3rd,6th postoperative day to measure GSH level, immune indexes, and liver function indexes. Results The decrease of GSH level in plasma and red blood cell (RBC) in study group was less than that in control group during postoperative period. Ratio of GSH/glutathione disulfide (GSSG) in plasma in study group was higher than that in control group on the 3rd postoperative day (52.53±11.46 vs. 31.43±7.27, P=0.001). Albumin level in study group was higher than that in control group on the 3rd postoperative day (37.7±3.8g/L vs. 33.8±4.2g/P=0.02). There was no significant difference in the levels of immunoglobin (IgG,IgM,IgA) or T lymphocyte subgroup (CD4, CD8, CD4/CD8) in both groups during postoperative period. There was one case with infectious complication in control group, while none in study group. A trend of shortened hospital stay was observed in study group compared with control group (22.3± 2.1d vs.24.9±1.7d,P=0.32). Conclusions Supplementation of GLN-enriched TPN has beneficial effects on maintaining GSH levels in plasma and RBC, sustaining GSH/GSSG ratio and albumin level, and keeping antioxidant abilities during postoperative period in patients with abdominal operation, with the trends of decreasing incidence of infectious complication and shortening hos
