Blast waves have been produced in solid target by irradiation with short-pulse high-intensity lasers. The mechanism of production relies on energy deposition from the hot electrons produced by laser-matter interaction, producing a steep temperature gradient inside the target. Hot electrons also produce preheating of the material ahead of the blast wave and expansion of the target rear side, which results in a complex blast wave propagation dynamic. Several diagnostics have been used to characterize the hot electron source, the induced preheating and the velocity of the blast wave. Results are compared to numerical simulations. These show how blast wave pressure is initially very large (more than 100 Mbar), but it decreases very rapidly during propagation.

This study aims to contribute to improve knowledge on geological formations of Comoé basin. The petrographic study of the geological formations of Koun Fao has highlighted two major lithological families: magmatic rocks consisting of monzonites, monzogranites, diorites, biotite granodiorites, syenites, porphyritic micromonzonites and porphyritic dacite and metamorphic rocks from sedimentary origin (quartz schists, meta-greywackes, schists, andalusite chloritoschist and paragneiss). These formations are affected by amphibolite to greenschist facies metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration (pervasive and vein) marked by the presence of quartz, epidotes, chlorites and sericite. Minerals such as andalusite, muscovite and chlorite characterize a local low pressure contact metamorphism in the andalusite chloritoschist. Remote sensing data (Landsat 8 image) coupled with field data allowed the production of a geological map of the area. The study of the structures and microstructures highlighted two deformation mechanisms. These are flattening and simple shear (ductile and brittle). The study area is affected by four deformation phases: D1 marked by a N-S to NNE-SSW elongation, D2 marked by a NW-SE to NNW-SSE compression phase, D3 which is a NE-SW to NNE-SSW transpression phase and D4, responsible for late structures, marked by a NW-SE to NNW-SSE transpression phase.

Potyviruses are major constraints to grain legume production by causing significant yield losses. Potyviruses infecting Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea) were investigated in Burkina Faso. Leaf samples collected from three agroclimatic zones were subjected to RT-PCR and sequence analyses. Of a total of 135 samples, 36 (26.67%) were detected positive in RT-PCR tests using potyvirus universal primers. Analysis of full coat protein (cp) sequences from 24 isolates revealed the occurrence of three groups of Bambara groundnut-infecting potyviruses. Virus isolates in group 1 shared 94.5% - 100% nucleotide (nt) identity with CABMV whereas those in group 2 and group 3 were distantly related Bean common necrosis virus (BCMNV) and Passiflora virus Ugandan which were their respective closest potyviruses. Group 2 shared 77.1% nt and 78.8% - 79.9% aa identity with BCMNV and group 3 shared 77.3% - 78.3% nt and 80.7% - 81.5% aa identity with Passiflora virus Ugandan. All three groups were confirmed by phylogenetic analyses. Taking into account potyvirus demarcation criteria, group 1 isolates belonged to CABMV species. Group 2 and group 3 were assigned to a potentially new potyviruses species and designated Bambara groundnut potyvirus 1 (BGPV1) and Bambara groundnut potyvirus 2 (BGPV2).

Cirrhosis is the cause of a high rate of death in hospitals. The aim of this research was to estimate the incidence of mortality and identify the risk factors associated with cirrhosis patients in hospital in Cote d’Ivoire. Methodology: It is a retrospective study covering from January 1st, 2002 to December 31st, 2011 at Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire de Yopougon in Abidjan. We concerned the cirrhosis patients that have been followed at the hepatology and gastroenterology department. Survival was estimated by the Kaplan-Meier curve and comparison of survival curves by the log-rank test. The multi-varied analysis of the survivals has been achieved with the Cox proportional Hazard regression. A p value < 0.05 was taken as significant. Results: We recruited, 221 patients (135 men) of whom the medium age was 59 ± 15.12 years. Among those patients, 34.5% were classified as Child Pugh C and 52.94% Child Pugh B, 19.45% suffered from digestive hemorrhage, 26.5% suffered from renal deficiency, 47% suffered from hepatic encephalopathy and 10.7% from hyponatremia. The median overall survival of patients was 0.50 person-months. The variables that were significantly associated to a reduction of survival were hepatic encephalopathy (p = 0.0029), spontaneous ascitesfluid infection (p = 0.0208), hyponatremia (p = 0.0434) and stage Cof Child- Pugh score (p = 0.046). Conclusion: The incidence of mortality in cirrhotic patients hospitalized in Abidjan is high. Pejorative prognostic factors were essentially hepatic encephalopathy, spontaneous ascites fluid infection, hyponatremia and stage C of Child-Pugh score.
