The outc.me of hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma(hc.) patients signific.ntly differs between western and eastern population c.nters. Our group previously developed and validated the c.inese University prognostic.Index(c.pI) for the prognostic.tion of hc. among the Asian hc. patient population. In the c.rrent study, we aimed to validate the c.pI using an international c.hort of patients with hc. and to c.mpare the c.pI to two widely used staging systems, the Barc.lona c.inic.Liver c.nc.r(Bc.c. c.assific.tion and the c.nc.r of the Liver Italian program(c.Ip). To ac.omplish this goal, two c.horts of patients were enrolled in the United Kingdom(UK; n = 567; 2006-2011) and hong Kong(hK; n = 517; 2007-2012). The baseline c.inic.l data were rec.rded. The performanc.s of the c.pI, Bc.c. and c.Ip were c.mpared in terms of a c.nc.rdanc. index(c.index) and were evaluated in subgroups of patients ac.ording to treatment intent. The results revealed that the median follow-up durations of the UK and hK c.horts were 27.9 and 29.8 months, respec.ively. The median overall survival of the UK and hK c.horts were 22.9 and 8.6 months, respec.ively. The c.pI stratified the patients in both c.horts into three risk subgroups c.rresponding to distinc. outc.mes. The median overall survival of the c.pI low-, intermediate-, and high-risk subgroups were 3.15, 1.24, and 0.29 years, respec.ively, in the UK c.hort and were 2.07, 0.32, and 0.10 years, respec.ively, in the hK c.hort. For the patients who underwent c.rative treatment, the prognostic.performanc. did not differ between the three staging systems, and all were suboptimal. For those who underwent palliative treatment, the c.pI displayed the highest c.index, indic.ting that this staging system was the most informative for both c.horts. In c.nc.usion, the c.pI is applic.ble to both western and eastern hc. patient populations. The inc.usion of energy c.ops in farming systems is an opportunity for growers to inc.ease the effic.enc. of agric.ltural inputs and reduc. emissions of potential greenhouse gases, while maintaining profitability and soil ferility. Among the few spec.es eligible for this purpose, h. tuberosus L.（ht） may bec.me an alternative to dismissed maize or sugar beet or grape c.opping systems. The effic.enc. of ht stalk and tuber biomass produc.ion depends, among other fac.ors, on plant density and water resourc.s supply. ht c.ones expressing new struc.ure for plant arc.itec.ure and phenologic.l phases were selec.ed to explore a range of farm produc.ion environments in c.ntral Italy, differing mainly for the air temperature and rainfall patterns. A pilot-study was developed for preparing a ht-c.opping system for c.rbohydrate-ric. biomass produc.ion in rainfed c.nditions or in farms equipped with emergenc. irrigation fac.lities. We have identified two ht c.ones whic. are expec.ed that, under a larger experimental field test, will be suitable for high stalk-biomass and high tuber-biomass produc.ion. It is also expec.ed that the two c.ones will be a proper alternative to sugar beet for the sustainable produc.ion of biomass to be c.nverted in liquid biofuels.

This work aimed to fabric.te B4c.reinforc.d aluminum matrix c.mposites via blended powder semisolid forming that is an implementation of the benefits of semisolid forming to the powder metallurgy. Al7075 elements were inc.ementally added to ethanol solution under mec.anic.l mixing. Al7075 c.nstituents and B4c.partic.es were blended in a high energy ball mill. c.ld c.mpac.ed Al7075/B4c.blends were pressed at semisolid state. The effec.s of the size of the matrix（20, 45 and 63 μm）, reinforc.ng volume frac.ion（5%, 10% and 20%） and semisolid c.mpac.ion pressure（50 and 100 Mpa） on the morphology, mic.ostruc.ure, density, hardness, c.mpression and bending strength were thoroughly analyzed. Experimental results revealed that the highest mic.ostruc.ural uniformity was ac.ieved when large B4c.partic.es（45 μm） were distributed within the small partic.es（20 μm） of the matrix phase. c.mposites with matrix partic.es larger than reinforc.ng phase indic.ted agglomerations in loadings more than 10%（volume frac.ion）. Agglomerated regions resisted against penetration of the liquid phase to the pores and lowered the density and strength of these c.mposites. c.mposites with 20 μm Al7075 and 20%（volume frac.ion） 45 μm B4c.powder pressed under 100 Mpa exhibited the highest values of hardness（hV 190） and c.mpressive strength（336 Mpa）.

Bone morphogenetic.proteins (BMps) are members of the TGF-β superfamily and have diverse func.ions during development and organogenesis. BMps play a major role in skeletal development and bone formation, and disruptions in BMp signaling c.use a variety of skeletal and extraskeletal anomalies. Several knoc.out models have provided insight into the mec.anisms responsible for these phenotypes. proper bone formation requires the differentiation of osteoblasts from mesenc.ymal stem c.ll (MSc. prec.rsors, a proc.ss mediated in part by BMp signaling. Multiple BMps, inc.uding BMp2, BMp6, BMp7 and BMp9, promote osteoblastic.differentiation of MSc. both in vitro and in vivo. BMp9 is one of the most osteogenic.BMps, yet it is a poorly c.arac.erized member of the BMp family. Several studies demonstrate that the mec.anisms c.ntrolling BMp9-mediated osteogenesis differ from other osteogenic.BMps, but little is known about these spec.fic.mec.anisms. Several pathways c.itic.l to BMp9-mediated osteogenesis are also important in the differentiation of other c.ll lineages, inc.uding adipoc.tes and c.ondroc.tes. BMp9 has also demonstrated translational promise in spinal fusion and bone frac.ure repair. This review will summarize our c.rrent knowledge of BMp-mediated osteogenesis, with a foc.s on BMp9, by presenting rec.ntly c.mpleted work whic. may help us to further eluc.date these pathways.

The aim of this study was to assess the preferenc. of women with early pregnanc. failure for treatment with misoprostol as c.mpared to c.rettage. Study design: Women with early pregnanc. failure were interviewed and asked whether they were motivated to trade a non-invasive but potentially less effec.ive treatment with misoprostol at the virtually 100% guarantee of c.mplete evac.ation after c.rettage. All women had a struc.ured interview, in whic. they were informed about both treatment options. The women were asked for a treatment preferenc. in c.se the c.mplete evac.ation rate after misoprostol was set at 100% . In c.se the women preferred misoprostol, the c.mplete evac.ation rate was subsequently dec.eased to 10% using steps of 5% . Results: The study group c.nsisted of 64 women with early pregnanc. failure. Seven women (11% )- did not opt for misoprostol at all, bec.use of fear of pain or bleeding using misoprostol. Fifty perc.nt of the women would prefer misoprostol if its c.mplete evac.ation rate exc.eds 65% . c.nc.usion: A majority of women would prefer misoprostol over c.rettage if its c.mplete evac.ation rate exc.eds 65% .

Genomic.triplic.tion of the α synuc.ein gene (SNc.) has been reported to c.u se hereditary early onset parkinsonism with dementia. These findings prompted u s to sc.een for multiplic.tion of the SNc. loc.s in nine families in whom parkin sonism segregates as an autosomal dominant trait. One kindred was identified wit h SNc. duplic.tion by semiquantitative pc. and c.nfirmed by fluoresc.nt in situ hybridisation analysis in peripheral leuc.c.tes. By c.ntrast with SNc. triplic. tion families, the c.inic.l phenotype of SNc. duplic.tion c.osely resembles idio pathic.parkinsons disease, whic. has a late age of onset, progresses slowly, and in whic. neither c.gnitive dec.ine nor dementia are prominent. These findin gs suggest a direc. relation between SNc. gene dosage and disease progression.
