Analysis of.Commercial Assays f.r the Detection of.SARS-CoV-2 Antibodies or Antigens

Background: COVID-19 produced by SARS-CoV-2 inf.ction has spread worldwide. There is a growing need f.r immunological assays to detect viral specif.c antibodies or viral antigen. Current standard of.diagnosis is reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in nasopharyngeal swabs. However serological tests can be used to determine previous exposure to the virus and complement the diagnosis. IgM and IgG SARS-CoV-2 specif.c antibodies can be detected as early as one week af.er inf.ction and assays can be usef.l to test large groups of.individuals. This work revised the available inf.rmation concerning assays that detect antibodies and antigens f.r SARS-CoV-2. Methods: Three sources of.inf.rmation were used: technical data sheets (TDS) web pages of.the company’s products and published articles in Pubmed with ref.rence to the use of.diagnostic kits. All the inf.rmation was revised until April 5th 2020. Results: There were 226 tests coming f.om 20 countries mainly f.om China. TDS were f.und only in 50 (22.1%). Most assays detect specif.c antibodies (n 180) based on immunochromatography methods (n 110) and use blood-derived samples (n 105). Assays f.r antibodies detection measured mainly IgM/IgG (n 112) and the most common procedure time was f.rred as sensitivity and specif.city was f.und only in 18.6% (n 42) of.the assays. The majority of.the tests are currently f.r in vitro diagnosis (IVD). A total 165 articles were f.und on PubMed 15 were included and only 4 used the commercial kits reviewed. Conclusions: Due to the urgency of.producing diagnostic tests f.r SARS-CoV-2 there is a broad of.er of.kits. Many tests need additional inf.rmation f.r their application. The data collected may be usef.l in the selection of.assays but more and higher quality inf.rmation is needed.

Spermotrend Improves Semen Quality and Inf.rtility in Men with Varicocele —Spermotrend and Male Inf.rtility

Background: Inf.rtility af.ects 8% - 12% of.couples globally, with approximately half.of.the cases reported in males. Oxidative stress is a common f.ctor increased in the varicocele condition and particularly af.ects spermatozoa, due to their sensitivity to oxidative signals and testicular hypotrophy. The objective of.this clinical trial is to study the ef.ectiveness of.Spermotrend in the improvement of.sperm parameters in male inf.rtility. Methods: A total of.170 males aged > 18 years with a diagnosis of.inf.rtility and varicocele were consecutively enrolled in a Phase II, open-label clinical trial. Spermotrend was administered 1 capsule (450 mg) orally every 8 hours f.r 6 months and was evaluated through semen analysis at 4 and 6 months of.f.llow-up. Results: The trial results show a signif.cant improvement f.llowing the administration of.Spermotrend over 6 months in sperm concentration (44.1% at baseline vs. 64.1% at 6 months), sperm survival (28.2% with sperm survival ≥ 2 hours vs.56.5%), normalization of.sperm morphology (31.2% vs. 72.9%). Varicocele condition decreased in all patients and, by the end of.the study, 55.3% of.patients had normal venous f.ow and dilation. Only 5.9% of.the patients showed grade 2 varicocele at the end of.the study, while 38.8% showed grade 1 varicocele, with no patients showing grade 3 varicocele. Regarding testicular hypotrophy, 90.6% of.the patients completed the study with normalized testicular volume by recovering normal venous f.ow. Conclusion: A short-term course of.Spermotrend may signif.cantly improve sperm parameters associated with male inf.rtility. Cost-Ef.ectiveness Analysis of.Renalof. versus Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy (ESWL) f.r the Treatment of.Kidney Stones ≤ 1 cm in Nicaragua

Objectives: To assess the ef.iciency in terms of.cost-ef.ectiveness (CE) of.oral Renalof. treatment versus extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) in the treatment of.kidney stones ≤ 1 cm in Nicaragua. Methods: A cost-ef.ectiveness economic evaluation was carried out based on the results obtained in the randomised, prospective, observational, single-blind, prospective, phase 2 clinical trial. Cost-ef.ectiveness and the incremental cost-ef.ectiveness ratio (ICER) were calculated. Economic data were obtained f.om the Economics Department of.Clínica Senior in Managua, Nicaragua. The monetary cost was expressed in US dollars (USD). Results: Treatment with Renalof. yielded a CE of.$1,323.08/% remission, while ESWL was $9,498.54/% remission. The ICER shows that, in order to achieve a high percentage of.kidney stone remission with ESWL, an extra $4,734.70 per patient must be invested. Conclusions: The use of.Renalof. is shown to be a more cost-ef.ective option than ESWL. It is recommended f.r the treatment of.kidney stones ≤ 1 cm in size.

Little is known about how the assessment modality,i.e.,computer-based(CB)and paper-based(PB)tests,af.ects language teachers’scorings,perceptions,and pref.rences and,theref.re,the validity and f.irness of.classroom writing *** present mixed-methods study used Shaw and Weir’s(2007)sociocognitive writing test validation f.amework to examine the scoring and consequential validity evidence of.CB and PB writing tests in Ef. classroom assessment in higher *** handwritten and word-processed texts of.38 Ef. university students were transcribed to their opposite f.rmat and assessed by three language lecturers(N=456 texts,152 per teacher)to examine the scoring validity of.CB and PB *** teachers’perceptions of.text quality and pref.rences f.r assessment modality accounted f.r the consequential validity evidence of.both *** revealed that the assessment modality impacted teachers’scorings,perceptions,and *** teachers awarded higher scores to original and transcribed handwritten texts,particularly text organization and language *** teachers’perceptions of.text quality dif.ered f.om their ratings,and physical,psychological,and experiential characteristics inf.uenced their pref.rences f.r assessment *** results have implications f.r the validity and f.irness of.CB and PB writing tests and teachers’assessment practices.

Molecular dynamics simulations are carried out f.r describing growth of.Pd and PdO nanoclusters using the Reaxf. f.rce f.eld. The resulting nanocluster structures are successf.lly compared to those of.nanoclusters experimentally grown in a gas aggregation source. The PdO structure is quasi-crystalline as revealed by high resolution transmission microscope analysis f.r experimental PdO nanoclusters. The role of.the nanocluster temperature in the molecular dynamics simulated growth is highlighted.

Background Schistosomiasis is highly endemic in sub-Saharan Af.ica and f.equently imported to Europe. Male urogenital manif.stations are of.en neglected. We aimed to ascertain the prevalence of.genitourinary clinical signs and symptoms among long-term Af.ican migrants in a non-endemic European country using a serology *** We carried out a prospective, community-based cross-sectional study of.adult male migrants f.om sub-Saharan Af.ica living in *** serology tests and microscopic urine examinations were carried out, and clinical data were obtained f.om an electronic medical record search and a structured *** We included 388 adult males, mean age 43.5 years [Standard Deviation (SD) = 12.0, range: 18–76]. The median time since migration to the European Union was 17 [Interquartile range (IQR): 11–21] years. The most f.equent country of.origin was Senegal (N = 179, 46.1%). Of.the 338, 147 (37.6%) tested positive f.rSchistosoma. Parasite eggs were present in the urine of.only 1.3%. Nine genitourinary clinical items were signif.cantly associated with positiveSchistosoma serology results: pelvic pain (45.2%;OR = 1.57, 95%CI: 1.0–2.4), pain on ejaculation (14.5%;OR = 1.85, 95%CI: 1.0–3.5), dyspareunia (12.4%;OR = 2.45, 95%CI: 1.2–5.2), erectile dysf.nction (9.5%;OR = 3.10, 95%CI: 1.3–7.6), self.reported episodes of.inf.rtility (32.1%;OR = 1.69, 95%CI: 1.0–2.8), haematuria (55.2%;OR = 2.37, 95%CI: 1.5–3.6), dysuria (52.1%;OR = 2.01, 95%CI: 1.3–3.1), undiagnosed syndromic STIs (5.4%), and orchitis (20.7%;OR = 1.81, 95%CI: 1.0–3.1). Clinical signs tended to *** Urogenital clinical signs and symptoms are prevalent among male Af.ican long-term migrants with a positiveSchistosoma serology results.
