Preliminary study of mollusk fossils in the Qinan Miocene loess-soil sequence in western Chinese Loess Plateau

The first near continuous mollusk fossil record from the Qinan Miocene loess-soil se-quence is presented. Results show that mollusk species are abundant in the QA-I section between 22 and 6.2 Ma, and both loess layers and soil layers yield mollusk fossil individuals. All mollusk species are terrestrial and well preserved in the section. Most species are identical to those identified in the Quaternary loess-soil sequence of the Loess Plateau. The thermo-humidiphilous group generally is distributed in soil layers, whereas cold-aridiphilous group can be observed in loess layers. From the Miocene to Quaternary, the occurrence and divergence of new species of Metodontia and Cathaica correspond to the crucial periods of regional and global environmental changes, indicating that mol-lusk species are sensitive to environmental variations. Preliminary study on the QA-I mollusk record indicates that the Qinan Miocene loess-soil sequence may have a similar sedimentary environment to the Quaternary loess-soil sequence of the Loess Plateau.

slow motion for scalar Allen-Cahn type equation is a well-known phenomenon,precise motion law for the dynamics of fronts having been established first using the socalled geometric approach inspired from central manifold theory(see the results of Carr and Pego in 1989). In this paper, the authors present an alternate approach to recover the motion law, and extend it to the case of multiple wells. This method is based on the localized energy identity, and is therefore, at least conceptually, simpler to implement. It also allows to handle collisions and rough initial data.

We explore the capabilities and limitations of 3D printed microserpentines(µserpentines)and utilize these structures to develop dynamic 3D microelectrodes for potential applications in in vitro,wearable,and implantable microelectrode arrays(MEAs).The device incorporates optimized 3D printedµserpentine designs with out-of-plane microelectrode structures,integrated on to a flexible Kapton®package with micromolded PDMs *** flexibility of the optimized,printedµserpentine design was calculated through effective stiffness and effective strain equations,so as to allow for analysis of various designs for enhanced *** optimized,down selectedµserpentine design was further sputter coated with 7–70 nm-thick gold and the performance of these coatings was studied for maintenance of conductivity during uniaxial strain ***/conforming analysis of the final devices(3D MEAs with a Kapton®package and PDMs insulation)were performed to qualitatively assess the robustness of the finished device toward dynamic MEA applications.3D microelectrode impedance measurements varied from 4.2 to 5.2 kΩduring the bending process demonstrating a small change and an example application with artificial agarose skin composite model to assess feasibility for basic transdermal electrical recording was further demonstrated.

The adsorption capacities of new humic acids isolated from Yakouren forest （YHA） and sahara （Tamenrasset： THA） soils （Algeria） and commercial humic acid （PFHA） on polyaniline emeraldine base （PEB） were studied at pH 6.6. Also the adsorption of heavy metals such as Cd 2＋ , Zn 2＋ and Ni 2＋ on humic acid-polyaniline systems （HA-PEB） was investigated at the same conditions. HA-PEB compounds were characterized by scanning electron microscopy （sEM）, infrared spectrometry and cavity microelectrode. In addition, batch adsorption and cavity microelectrode were used in the adsorption study of Cd 2＋ , Zn 2＋ and Ni 2＋ on HA-PEB. To develop biocaptors of polluting metals using a cavity microelectrode modified by HA-PEB systems, the adsorption kinetic and adsorption capacity were investigated. The sEM analysis showed that the presence of humic acid affected the PEB surface and caused the formation of a granular morphology. The maximum adsorption capacities （q max ） of PFHA, THA and YHA determined by adsorption isotherms were 91.31, 132.1 and 151.0 mg/g, respectively. Batch adsorption results showed that q max of Cd 2＋ , Zn 2＋ and Ni 2＋ on HA-PEB followed the order： THA-PEB YHA-PEB PFHA-PEB. The voltammograms obtained with HA-PEB modified cavity microelectrode showed the appearance of new redox couples reflecting the adsorption of HA on PEB. Metal-humic acid-polyaniline voltammograms were characterized by appearance of oxidation-reduction couples or reduction wave corresponding to metal. Finally, the result may be exploited to develop a biocaptor based on the cavity microelectrode amended by THA-PEB and YHA-PEB.

For a long period of time, the determination of phase diagrams was only supported by experiments related to thermal effects or thermodynamic measurements： thermal analysis, calorimetric measurements, vapor pressures, and EMF measurements. As a matter of fact, solid-solid transformations were not so accurately determined and could not be taken into account in the system＇s analysis. First, X-ray diffraction methods were used as a support for the thermal analysis. second, the implementation of novel tools in structural analysis （for example, the Rietveld method） has permitted to increase the knowledge of phase stability. Finally, modeling the phases using a Calphad method needed increasingly more structural results to determine and better understand the phase diagrams. On the other hand, the Calphad method has been widely developed for metallic systems, for oxide systems, and in the past 10 years, for some semi-conductor systems, for example, gallium arsenide, cadmium telluride, and lead telluride systems. In such applications, it is very important to bring point defects in the modeling of the phases to map the defects as a function of the chemical composition. Owing to its complexity, this characteristic, the knowledge of which is crucial for the understanding and the control of potential physical applications, was ignored in the previous assessment of semi-conductor systems.

The construction of biomass-based conductive hydrogel e-skins with high mechanical properties is the research hotspot and difficulty in the field of biomass *** collagen-based conductive hydrogels,constructed by the typical"bottom-up"strategy,normally have the incompatible problem between high mechanical property and high collagen content,and the extraction of collagen is often *** solve these problems,inspired by the high mechanical properties and high collagen content of animal skins,this work proposed a"top-down"construction strategy,in which the extraction of collagen was unnecessary and the skin collagen skeleton(sCs)with the 3D network structure woven by natural collagen fibers in goatskin was preserved and used as the basic framework of *** a four-step route,namely,pretreatment→soaking in AgNPs(silver nanoparticles)solution→soaking in the mixed solution containing HEA(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)and AlCl_(3)→polymerization,this work successfully achieved the fabrication of a new skin-based conductive hydrogel e-skin with high mechanical properties(tensile strength of 2.97 MPa,toughness of 6.23 MJ·m^(-3)and breaking elongation of 428%)by using goatskin as raw *** developed skin hydrogel(called PH@Ag)possessed a unique structure with the collagen fibers encapsulated by PHEA,and exhibited satisfactory adhesion,considerable antibacterial property,cytocompatibility,conductivity(3.06 s·m^(-1))and sensing sensitivity(the maximum gauge factor of 5.51).The PH@Ag e-skin could serve as strain sensors to accurately monitor and recognize all kinds of human motions such as swallowing,frowning,walking,and so on,and thus is anticipated to have considerable application prospect in many fields including flexible wearable electronic devices,health and motion monitoring.
