Mineralogical characteristics and photocatalytic properties of natural sphalerite from China

Different natural sphalerites have a range of photocatalytic properties that can potentially be exploited for environmental remediation *** develop value in the exploitation of sphalerite,samples were collected from 19 ore deposits in China and characterized for their mineralogical and photocatalytic properties.X-ray diffraction(XRD) and electron probe micro analysis(EPMA) measurements indicated that all the natural sphalerites from various localities crystallized in cubic phases with various chemical *** substitution of Fe for Zn ranged from 0.235% to 14.826% by weight,Mn from 0.004% to4.868%,Cu from 0.009% to 5.529% and Cd from 0.133% to 1.576%.As Fe became more abundant,the color of natural sphalerite darkened,becoming almost black;and higher Fe content was associated with stronger visible light *** spectra showed emission mainly related to S-vacancies and progressively decreasing fluorescence intensity with increasing Fe *** of the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange indicated that the sample with the highest Cd content but moderate Fe content had the highest photocatalytic ***,the degradation of Methyl Orange(30 mg/L)attained 82.11% efficiency under visible light irradiation for 4 hr of natural sphalerite with4.262% Fe and 1.576% ***,the Fe content in sphalerite was found to contribute to the visible light absorption ability and the recombination rate of photo-generated electrons and holes,while substitution by Cd was observed to have a greater effect on the photocatalytic *** findings provide a scientific basis for the profitable utilization of base metal resources like sphalerite.

The Jiuyishan complex massif,located in the northern section of the Nanling region,is a combination of five plutons,namely,the Xuehuading,Jinjiling,Pangxiemu,Shaziling and Xishan ***-rock geochemistry,Imineral electron microprobe analysis,zircon U-Pb dating and Hf isotope analysis were carried out for the Jinjiling and Pangxiemu *** zircon U-Pb dating yields weighted mean ages of 152.9±0.9 Ma for the Jinjiling pluton and 151.7±1.5 Ma for the Pangxiemu pluton,with a narrow gap between *** Jinjiling and Pangxiemu plutons both have geochemical characteristics of high SiO2,Al2 O3,Na2 O,K2 O and low TiO2,MgO,CaO,P2 O5 contents,with intense depletions in Sr,Ba,Ti,Eu and enrichments in Ga,FeoOT and HFSE,and these characteristics reflect an A-type *** the Jinjiling to the Pangxiemu plutons,the mineral composition of mica changes from lepidomelane to zinnwaldite,with increases in F,Li2 O and Rb2 O *** mineral composition of zircon changes from low Zr/Hf to high Zr/Hf,with increasing HfO2,P2 O5 and UO2+ThO2+Y2 O3 *** mineral compositions of feldspar indicate that the Pangxiemu pluton contains more alkali feldspar than the Jinjiling *** whole-rock geochemistry and mineral compositions reveal a higher degree of differentiation for the Pangxiemu *** nearly uniformεHf(t)indicates the same source region for the two plutons:both were derived from partial melting of the lower crust,with small contributions of mantle *** addition,higher F,lower Nb/Ta and Zr/Hf ratios in the Pangxiemu Pluton suggest a closer relationship with the rare metal mineralization than for the Jinjiling pluton.

D-MELD risk capping improves post-transplant and overall mortality under markov microsimulation

AIM: To hypothesize that the product of calculated Model for End-Stage Liver Disease score excluding exception points and donor age(D-MELD) risk capping ± Rule 14 could improve post liver transplant and overall survival after ***: Probabilities derived from the United Network for Organ Sharing database between 2002 and 2004 were used to simulate potential outcomes for all patients listed for transplantation. The Markov simula-tion was then modified by screening matches using a 1200 or 1600 D-MELD risk cap ± allowing transplants for Model for End-Stage Liver Disease(MELD) ≤ 14(Rule 14). The differential impact of the rule changes was ***: The Markov simulation accurately reproduced overall and post transplant survival. A 1200 D-MELD risk cap improved post-transplant survival. Both the 1200 and 1600 risk caps improved overall survival for waitlisted patients. The addition of Rule 14 further improved post transplant and overall survival by redistribution of donor livers to recipients in higher MELD subgroups. The mechanism for improved overall and post-transplant survival after listing was due to shifting a larger percentage of transplants to the moderate MELD score subgroup(MELD 15-29) while also ensuring that high MELD recipients have livers of high quality to achieve excellent post transplant ***: A 1200 D-MELD risk cap + Rule 14 provided the greatest overall benefit primarily by focusing liver transplantation towards the moderate MELD recipient.
