Chronic hepatitis-C infection in COVID-19 patients is associated with in-hospital mortality

BACKGROUND There is little evidence about the association of pre-existing hepatitis C infection(HCV)with outcomes in patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).AIM To assess the prevalence of history of HCV among patients with COVID-19 and to study the relationship of in-hospital mortality in relation with other predictors of poor outcomes in the presence or absence of COVID-19 induced acute liver *** In a retrospective single-center study design,1193 patients with COVID-19 infection were *** were then classified into those with and without a history of HCV,50(4.1%)and 1157(95.9%)*** Multivariate cox-regression models showed that age,HCV,D-Dimer,and ferritin were the only predictors of in-hospital *** liver injury and fibrosis score(Fib-4 score)were not different between both *** coxregression model for liver profile revealed that aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase ratio,Fib-4 score,and HCV were predictors of inhospital *** propensity score matching HCV was the only predictor of mortality in the multivariate cox-regression model.A model including HCV was found to add predictive value to clinical and laboratory *** In patients with COVID-19,history of HCV infection leads to an accentuated severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)virulence,irrespective of baseline comorbidities,admission laboratory variables,or COVID-19-induced liver injury,which may be related to extrahepatic effects of HCV leading to enhanced ACE-2/TMPRSS mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 viral entry,baseline cytokine-mediated pro-inflammation,and endothelial dysfunction.

Distal nucleotides affect the rate of stop codon read-through

Background:A key step in gene expression is the recognition of the stop codon to terminate translation at the correct ***,it has been observed that ribosomes can misinterpret the stop codon and continue the translation in the 3′UTR *** phenomenon is called stop codon read-through(SCR).It has been suggested that these events would occur on a programmed basis,but the underlying mechanisms are still not well ***:Here,we present a strategy for the comprehensive identification of SCR events in the Drosophila melanogaster transcriptome by evaluating the ribosomal density *** associated ribosomal leak rate was estimated for every event identified.A statistical characterization of the frequency of nucleotide use in the proximal region to the stop codon in the sequences associated to SCR events was ***:The results show that the nucleotide usage pattern in transcripts with the UGA codon is different from the pattern for those transcripts ending in the UAA codon,suggesting the existence of at least two mechanisms that could alter the translational termination ***,a linear regression models for each of the three stop codons was developed,and we show that the models using the nucleotides at informative positions outperforms those models that consider the entire sequence context to the stop ***:We report that distal nucleotides can affect the SCR rate in a stop-codon dependent manner.

Chemical Characterization of N-Hexane Extract Obtained from Lignocellulose Residual Contained in Agroindustrial Wastes

The chemical composition of n-hexane extractives from lignocellulose residual contained in different agroindustrial wastes was studied. The n-hexane extract, which accounted for 1.6% of total lignocellulose residual weight, was analysed by 1H-NMR and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The most predominant compounds identified were aliphatic hydrocarbons (lineal alkanes, branched alkanes, alkenes). Additionally, terpenes, ketones, fatty alcohols, fatty acids and steroids were also found together in minor amounts. The lipophilic compounds in n-hexane extracts in three lignocellulosic wastes, which is highly valuable information for a more complete industrial utilization of these lignocellulosic materials.
