Metal oxide/graphene nanocomposites are emerging as promising materials for developing room-temperature gas sensors. However, the unsatisfactory performances owing to the relatively low sensitivity, slow response, and recovery kinetics limit their applications. Herein, a highly sensitive and rapidly responding room-temperature NO2 gas sensor based on WO3 nanorods/sulfonated reduced graphene oxide （S-rGO） was prepared via a simple and cost-effective hydrothermal method. The optimal sensor response of the WO3/S-rGO sensor toward 20 ppm NO2 is 149% in 6 s, which is 4.7 times higher and 100 times faster than that of the corresponding WO3/rGO sensors. In addition, the sensor exhibits excellent reproducibility, selectivity, and extremely fast recovery kinetics. The mechanism of the WOJS-rGO nanocomposite gas sensor is investigated in detail. In addition to the high transport capability of S-rGO as well as its excellent NO2 adsorption ability, the superior sensing performance of the S-rGO/WO3 sensor can be attributed to the favorable charge transfer occurring at the S-rGO/WO3 interfaces. We believe that the strategy of compositing a metal oxide with functionalized graphene provides a new insight for the future development of room-temoerature gas sensors.

We report on the preparation of a well-defined star-shaped tricationic ionic liquid possessing three arms of poly（ethylene glycol） functionalized imidazolium rings. Remarkable solubility was found in most of the organic solvents we used. Thermogravimetric analysis（TGA） exhibited excellent thermal stability and two distinct decomposition temperatures were attributed to two kinds of chemical degradation. differential scanning calorimetry（DSC） was further employed to investigate the thermal phase transitions, that three different signals（Tg, Tc, and Tm） were shown upon the second heating process. Moreover, CH2Cl2 solution of the ionic liquid expressed an excitation-wavelength dependent fluorescence response, leading to the facile modulation of photoluminescence behavior. This work represents an example of utilizing molecular design to construct novel ionic liquids and endow further potential to be used in the engineering materials.

Carbon materials, including carbon fibers, graphite, diamond, carbon foams, carbon nanotubes, and graphene, are attractive reinforcements for aluminum matrix composites due to their excellent mechanical and/or physical properties as well as light weight. Carbon materials reinforced aluminum （C/Al） composites are promising materials in many areas such as aerospace, thermal management, and automobile. However, there are still some challenging problems that need to be resolved, such as interfacial reactions, low wettability, and anisotropic properties. These problems have limited the use of these composites. This review mainly focuses on the categories, fabrication processes, existing problems and solutions, coatings and interfaces, challenges and opportunities of C/Al composites so as to provide a useful reference for future research.

As a non-destructive local gas breakdown phenomenon within a surface or bulk cavity surrounded by insulation,partial discharge(PD)contains important information which can be used to evaluate and diagnose electrical insulation *** this paper,distinctive characteristics of PD for DC versus AC are reviewed.A summary of experimental studies on DC PD in different insulation coordinations is presented,including PD in gaseous insulating media,PD in solid insulating media and PD in liquid insulating *** and some thoughts based on existing studies are provided,and challenges and suggestions for future studies are *** paper can serve as a guide reference for readers to learn the background and state-of-the-art of DC PD *** importantly,it is hopeful that this study can inspire novel ideas for further advancing fundamental research of DC PD mechanisms and PD mitigation methods.

Transparent photovoltaic devices(TPVDs)have attracted increasing attention in emerging electronic *** the application scenarios extend,there raise higher requirements regarding the stability and operating temperature range of *** this work,a unique preparation strategy is proposed for air stable TPVD with a wide operating temperature range,i.e.,a nanoscale architecture termed as H-TPVD is constructed that integrates a free-standing and highly transparent conductive hybrid film of graphene and single-walled carbon nanotubes(G-SWNT TCF for short)with a metal oxide NiO/TiO_(2)*** preparation approach is suitable for scaling *** to the excellent transparent conductivity of the freestanding G-SWNT hybrid film and the ultrathin NiO/TiO_(2)heterojunction(100 nm),H-TPVD selectively absorbs the ultraviolet(UV)band of sunlight and has a transparency of up to 71%in the visible *** integrated nanoscale architecture manifests the significant holecollecting capability of the G-SWNT hybrid film and the efficient carrier generation and separation within the ultrathin NiO/TiO_(2)heterojunction,resulting in excellent performance of the H-TPVD with a specific detectivity of 2.7×10^(10) ***,the freestanding G-SWNT TCF is a super stable and non-porous two-dimensional film that can insulate gas molecules,thereby protecting the surface properties of NiO/TiO_(2)heterojunctions and enhancing the stability of *** subjected to 20,000 cycles and storage in air for three months,the performance parameters such as photo-response signal,output power,and specific detectivity show no noticeable *** particular,the as-fabricated self-powered H-TPVD can operate over a wide temperature range from −180 to 300℃,and can carry out solar-blind UV optical communication in this *** addition,the 4×4 array H-TPVD demonstrates clear optical *** results make it possible for H-TPVD to expand its potential application scenarios.

Precision and repeatability are challenging issues in point of care testing(POCT) analysis. Herein, we proposed a lateral flow assay(LFA) based on internal quality control microspheres to realize the accurate diagnosis of HbAlc in human body. Fluorescein cy5 decorated microspheres are used as labels for HbAlc detection, and BSA-fluorescein isothiocyanate(FITC) decorated microspheres are used as internal quality control labels. One test line was employed in the strip for the detection of glycosylated hemoglobin(HbAlc). This method can eliminate the interference of environmental factors(temperature, humidity,etc.) to LFA in the process of chromatography, and improve the precision and accuracy of HbAlc *** CV for detection of low concentration HbAlc was 1.05%, and the CV for detection of high concentration HbAlc was 0.69%. We envision the method to have great prospect in in vitro diagnosis(IVD).

Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)with pluripotency,wide origin and strong migration ability,but low immunogenicity and lack of ethical controversies,have been intensely investigated for clinical applications within the last *** previously published data in this issue of Cellular and Molecular Immunology demonstrated that adoptive transfer of MSCs can prevent fetal loss in lipopolysaccharide-induced and spontaneous abortion models via a paracrine effect and a cell contact-dependent manner.
