Predicting the Maintainability of Open Source Software Using Design Metrics

This paper empirically investigates the relationships between 15 design metrics and maintainability of 148 Java open source software. The results show that size and complexity metrics are strongly related to the maintainability of open source software. However, cohesion and coupling, as currently captured by existing metrics, do not seem to have a significant impact on maintainability. When used together, these metrics can predict system maintainability fairly accurately （mean MREs below 30%）.

A non-linear turbulent hydrodynamic model was proposed by Zhan and Li (1993) using the large eddy simulation approach and directional eddy viscosity method. The model is simplified in this paper and is applied to the problem of a side discharge into open-channel flow,where a recirculation zone develops downstream of the discharge. The numerical results are compared with experimental results (Strazisar and Prahl (1973) and Mikhail, Chu, and Savage (1975)) and previous numerical results obtained using a k-model (McGuirk and Rodi, 1978). The agreement is good.

During the installation of a pipe pile,the soil around the pile will be squeezed out. This paper deals with this squeezing effect of open-ended pipe piles using the cylindrical cavity expansion theory. The characteristics of soil with different tension and compression moduli and dilation are involved by applying the elastic theory with different moduli and logarithmic strain. The closed-form solutions of the radius of the plastic region,the displacement of the boundary between the plastic region and the elastic region and the expansion pressure on the external surface of the pipe piles are obtained. When obtaining these solutions,the soil plug in the open-ended pipe pile is considered by employing an incremental filling ratio to quantify the degree of soil plugging. Moreover,the effects of the ratio of tension and compression moduli,angle of dilation and incremental filling ratio on the radius of the plastic region and the expansion pressure on the external surface of the pipe pile are investigated. The parametric analyses show that it is necessary and important to consider the difference between the tension modulus and compression modulus,dilation angle and incremental filling ratio for studying the squeezing effect of open-ended pipe pile installation. It is concluded that the analytical solutions presented in this paper are suitable for studying the squeezing effect of open-ended pipe piles.

Purpose: To investigate the variation of visual function in different eccentricities of the visual field in isometropic ***: The stimulus matrix containing 61 hexagons was generated on a monitor. The diameter of the entire stimulating field was approximately 13.6 deg of arc; the frame rate of the monitor was 67 Hz. Every hexagon of the display contained a number of black and white small hexagonal patches which reversed during stimulation. These hexagons were simultaneously but independently modulated in time by the controlling computer program. The flashed elements were selected differently on each frame according to a computer-generated binary pseudo-random time series (m-sequence); the response contributions from each of the individual stimulus elements could be extracted from the cross corre-ation function. Subjects were asked to maintain fixation at the center of the stimulus pattern while each of the hexagons of the display reversed. The VERB system extracted the local responses by

The rapid growth of air traffic, the numerous largescale infrastructure developments such as the new airport core project, various road tunnels and waste treatment plants, as well as the large number of highrise buildings in hong kong have led to increased demands on engineering maintenance services. In order to cope with such plant services it is imperative that a steady supply of young, conscientious and competent plant operation and maintenance engineers be provided. To achieve this aim suitable plant engineering programs are required to meet the needs of various public and private sectors. This paper gives an account of the developments leading to the present situation in hong kong. In view of the United Nations forecast growth rate of air traffic in the AsiaPacific region, the development of plant engineering education and training programmes in the aircraft industry would be dealt with in a detailed manner. The role played by the engineering industry and the professional societies are also described.

The distinctive intrinsic heat treatment(IHT)originating from cyclic reheating in the laser-directed energy deposition(LDED) has attracted growing attention in recent *** this investigation,simulations and experimental characterizations were performed to examine the impact of IHT on the micros true ture and mechanical properties of LDED-fabricated CrCoNi medium-entropy alloy(MEA).The results show that the intensity of the IHT is proportional to the utilized laser energy density(LED).As the LED increased,significant dynamic recrystallization and grain refinement occurred within the alloy due to the enhanced intensity of ***,the high LED leads to severe hot cracking within the as-built MEA,resulting in inferior *** decreasing LED,the hot cracking was effectively ***,low LED weakened the intensity of IHT and consequently inhibited kinetic conditions of dynamic recrystallization,resulting in a heterogeneous grain structure characterized by multi-scale-sized *** structure provides significant hetero-deformation-induced hardening during plastic deformation,enabling the alloy to have a sustainable work-hardening *** expect that this work will have implications in taking full advantage of the unique IHT of the LDED process to fabricate ME As with excellent metallurgical quality and mechanical performance.

The mixing characteristics of dredged sediments of variable size discharged into cross-flow are studied by an Eulerian-Lagrangian method. A three-dimensional (3D) numerical model has been developed by using the modified k-ε parameterization for the turbulence in fluid phase/water and a Lagrangian method for the solid phase/sediments. In the model the wake turbulence induced by sediments has been included as additional source and sink terms in the k-ε model; and the trajectories of the sediments are tracked by the Lagrangian method in which the sediment drift velocities in cross-flow are computed by a multiphase particle-in-cell (MP-PIC) method and the diffusion process is approximated by a random walk model. The hydrodynamic behavior of dumped sediment cloud is governed by the total buoyancy on the cloud, the drag force on each particle and velocity of cross-flow. The cross-flow destroys more or less the double vortices occurred in stagnant ambience and dominates the longitudinal movement of sediment cloud. The computed results suggest satisfactory agreement by comparison with the experimental results of laboratory.

In ophthalmology,the quality of fundus images is critical for accurate diagnosis,both in clinical practice and in artificial intelligence(AI)-assisted *** the broad view provided by ultrawide-field(UWF)imaging,pseudocolor images may conceal critical lesions necessary for precise *** address this,we introduce UWF-Net,a sophisticated image enhancement algorithm that takes disease characteristics into *** the Fudan university ultra-wide-field image(FDUWI)dataset,which includes 11294 Optos pseudocolor and 2415 Zeiss true-color UWF images,each of which is rigorously annotated,UWF-Net combines global style modeling with feature-level lesion *** consistency loss is also applied to maintain fundus feature integrity,significantly improving image *** and qualitative evaluations demonstrated that UWF-Net outperforms existing methods such as contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization(CLAHE)and structure and illumination constrained generative adversarial network(StillGAN),delivering superior retinal image quality,higher quality scores,and preserved feature details after *** disease classification tasks,images enhanced by UWF-Net showed notable improvements when processed with existing classification systems over those enhanced by StillGAN,demonstrating a 4.62%increase in sensitivity(SEN)and a 3.97%increase in accuracy(ACC).In a multicenter clinical setting,UWF-Net-enhanced images were preferred by ophthalmologic technicians and doctors,and yielded a significant reduction in diagnostic time((13.17±8.40)s for UWF-Net enhanced images vs(19.54±12.40)s for original images)and an increase in diagnostic accuracy(87.71%for UWF-Net enhanced images vs 80.40%for original images).Our research verifies that UWF-Net markedly improves the quality of UWF imaging,facilitating better clinical outcomes and more reliable AI-assisted disease *** clinical integration of UWF-Net holds great
