BAcKGROUNDANDOBJEcTIVE: To document the efficacy and safety of argon laser per ipheral iridoplasty (ALPI) as a temporizing measure in the treatment of phacomor phic glaucoma and to evaluate the mid-term visual outcomes. PATIENTS AND METHOD S: The clinical records of all patients with phacomorphic glaucoma treated with ALPI from December 1999 to December 2002 were retrospectively reviewed. The prim ary outcome measure was the rate of successful control of intraocular pressure. Successful cases with at least 12months of follow-up were further analyzed rega rding their outcomes after cataract surgery, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), and angle status. RESULTS : ALPI was performed as an initial step in the management of phacomorphic glauco ma in 21 eyes of 21 patients. IOP was successfully.c.ntrolled in 17 eyes (80.75 %), with a statistically significant decrease at 2 and 24 hours postoperatively (P ctive cataract surgery was performed in 16 of the 17 successful cases and 12 of these patients completed at least 12 months of follow-up. Afte r a mean follow-up period of 25.58 months, IOP was normal without medications i n 11 eyes and only 1 patient required antiglaucoma eye drops to control IOP. All patients achieved a visual acuity of at least 1/60 and 8 (66.67%) of them achi eved a visual acuity of 6/21 or better. All patients maintained an open angle wi thout further surgical intervention. No complication was noted directly attribut able to ALPI. cONcLUSION: ALPI is a safe and efficacious measure for the initial management of phacomorphic glaucoma, simultaneously obviating the need to opera te in highly inflamed eyes in an emergency setting and achieving satisfactory mi d-term visual outcome.

Issues on empirical dietary restriction or supplementation are important but inadequately studied in children with atopic eczema (AE). The dietary habits of children with AE followed at a paediatric dermatology.c.inic (n = 179) were compared with those without eczema (n = 78). The mothers of 53% of the patients with or without eczema did not breastfeed their children. common food items avoided by parents whose children have moderate-to-severe AE included fish or seafood [64% vs. 32% of controls, odds ratio (OR) 3.84, 95% cI 2.12-6.95], beef (42% vs. 17% ; OR = 3.57, 95% cI 1.79-7.11), eggs (34% vs. 14% ; OR = 3.05, 95% cI 1.46-6.34) and cows’ milk (18% vs. 4% ; OR = 5.56, 95% cI 1.61-19.12); whereas their avoidance was less frequent in children with noneczematous diseases. The avoidance of these foods were often based on belief, but 66% of all AE patients who had avoided any of the above foods reported previous experience of eczema exacerbation by these items. Patients with moderate-to-severe AE were more likely to have consumed ‘ birds nest’ soup and traditional chinese medicines. It is important to evaluate whether the AE patients are genuinely ‘ allergic’ to some of these food items. Management is suboptimal if children with food allergy and severe disease continue to consume the culprit food. conversely, avoidance of common foods in children without food allergy.c.uld result in food faddism or malnutrition.

The establishment of a possible connection between neutrino emission and gravitational-wave(GW)bursts is important to our understanding of the physical processes that occur when black holes or neutron stars *** the Daya Bay experiment,using the data collected from December 2011 to August 2017,a search was per-formed for electron-antineutrino signals that coincided with detected GW events,including GW150914,GW151012,GW151226,GW170104,GW170608,GW 170814,and GW *** used three time windows of±10,±500,and±1000 s relative to the occurrence of the GW events and a neutrino energy range of 1.8 to 100 MeV to search for correlated neutrino *** detected electron-antineutrino candidates were consistent with the expected background rates for all the three time *** monochromatic spectra,we found upper limits(90%confidence level)of the electron-antineutrino fluence of(1.13-2.44)×10^(11)cm^(-2)at 5 MeV to 8.0×10^(7)cm^(-2)at 100 MeV for the three time w *** the assumption of a Fermi-Dirac spectrum,the upper limits were found to be(5.4-7.0)×10^(9)cm^(2)for the three time windows.

changes in land cover have a direct impact on forest ecosystem goods and services. In this study, changes in land cover in Sierra de Juarez–Oaxaca ecosystems were estimated using a consistent processing of Landsat images and OBIA methodology. Additionally, landscape analyses using FRAGSTAT were conducted. In 2014, Sierra de Juarez–Oaxaca was covered by approximately 84% of forests, mainly pine-oak and cloud forests. After extensive deforestation until 2001, this trend was reversed and the forest cover surface area in 2014 was slightly higher than in 1979. The comparison of the landscape structure of the forested and agricultural lands suggests an increase in habitat heterogeneity. However, interspersion and juxtaposition indices, showing the patch shape by patch area and perimeter, were similar throughout the study period(1979–2014). Social and economic drivers can explain this situation: namely, community organization, forest enterprises, payment for ecosystem services programs, and changes of agricultural activity. communities in the Sierra of Oaxaca have reforested degraded lands, created community forest enterprises, and preserved the forest under conservation schemes like those proposed by the Mexican payment for ecosystem services programs. However, their sustainable management faces internal challenges and has become highly dependent on political and institutional decisions beyond their control.

Introduction: To investigate the inter-observer and inter-modality variabilities of two imaging guided equipments—cone-beam computed tomography (cBcT) and ultrasound (US) in kidney stereotactic body radiotherapy. Methods: A renal metastasis case implanted with three gold anchor fiducial markers was firstly scanned by US to acquire a 3-dimension US image and followed by 4-dimension cBcT in every fraction. Seven observers retrospectively registered the pre-treatment images with the corresponding reference images based on the gold markers. Registration uncertainty of the observers between two imaging modalities was evaluated. Results: The uncertainties over whole treatment course in cBcT were 0.88 mm, 1.94 mm and 0.86 mm in lateral, longitudinal and vertical directions respectively;while 0.8 mm, 0.97 mm and 1.36 mm were found in US. conclusion: The greatest uncertainty was found in longitudinal direction in cBcT due to the fact that the respiration motion is the most rigorous in cranial-caudal direction. In US, since the probe was hold almost in upright position, the strong echo in vertical direction was attributed to the greatest uncertainty for such direction.

衰减机械系统的非线性振荡可用来研究长约瑟夫逊结的电动力学方程式,而这方程式等同于弱衰减机械系统的非线性振荡。本文应用的方法是将控制方程线性化及结合谐波平衡法(线性谐波平衡法)而产生色散关系,再把平均法应用在弱非线性的耗散系统中得到非常准确的瞬变反应。在此提出的方法不仅考虑能量耗散, 而且利用简单的线性代数等式关系来代替冗长及复杂的分析近似解。

AIM:To evaluate the quality of life(QOL)and level of depression among participants with high myopia in Nigeria and the demographic factors associated with these ***:This cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 adult participants with high myopia(defined as refractive error≤-5.00 D or worse,and uncorrected visual acuity worse than 6/18 in the better seeing eye)attending ophthalmology.c.ntres in Nigeria from 2 October 2021 to 30 August *** means and standard deviations were calculated for each of the four domains of World Health Organization Quality of life scale(WHOQOL-BREF)using the transformed *** Beck Depression Inventory(BDI)scale was used to assess the level of ***:The highest and the lowest mean scores of WHOQOL-BREF domains were found for the psychological and physical health domains(mean percentage scores were 67.0[95% confidence intervals(cI)64.1-68.9]and 55.3(95%cI 51.8-58.8,Py analysis of variance(ANOVA)revealed significant differences in physical health with educational status(higher among those with tertiary education:mean difference 0.9,95%cI-0.2-2.1;P=0.049),differences in psychological health with working status(higher among those who were working 1.2,95%cI 0.3-2.1;P=0.012).Also,the result showed a statistically significant association between environmental health and marital status(higher among non-married:1.7,95%cI-0.9-2.3;P=0.012)while overall health was associated with place of residence(higher in urban areas:2.3,95%cI 1.2-3.5;P=0.024).For depression,one in every nine participants reported major depressive symptom,mostly younger people(aged 16-29 vs 30-49y:17.0%vs 0,P=0.019),and slightly more women than men(14.3%vs 0,P=0.064).There were significant negative correlations between the depression scores and psychological health(r=-0.48,Pysical health(r=-0.29,P=0.002),social and relationship(r=-0.49,Pc

Obesity is a major risk factor for cancers including hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)that develops from a background of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).Hypercholesterolemia is a common comorbidity of *** cholesterol biosynthesis mainly occurs in the liver,its role in Hcc development of obese people remains *** high-fat high-carbohydrate diet-associated orthotopic and spontaneous NAFLD-Hcc mouse models,we found that hepatic cholesterol accumulation in obesity selectively suppressed natural killer T(NKT)cell-mediated antitumor *** analysis of human liver revealed aberrant cholesterol metabolism and NKT cell dysfunction in NAFLD ***,cholesterol-lowering rosuvastatin restored NKT expansion and cytotoxicity to prevent obesogenic diet-promoted Hcc ***,suppression of hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis by a mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)inhibitor vistusertib preceded tumor regression,which was abolished by NKT inactivation but not cD8^(+)T cell ***,sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2(SREBP2)-driven excessive cholesterol production from hepatocytes induced lipid peroxide accumulation and deficient cytotoxicity in NKT cells,which were supported by findings in people with obesity,NAFLD and *** study highlights mTORc1/SREBP2/cholesterol-mediated NKT dysfunction in the tumor-promoting NAFLD liver microenvironment,providing intervention strategies that invigorating NKT cells to control Hcc in the obesity epidemic.
