Listeria monocytogene is a well-recognized cause of bacteremia in immunocompromised individuals, including solid organ transplant recipients, but has been rarely reported following orthotopic liver transplantation. We describe a case of listeria meningitis that occurred within a week after liver transplantation. The patient developed a severe headache that mimicked tacrolimus encephalopathy, and was subsequently diagnosed with listeria meningitis by cerebrospinal fluid culture. The infection was successfully treated with three-week course of intravenous arnpicillin. Recurrent hepatitis c followed and was successfully treated with interferon alfa and ribavirin. Fourteen cases of listeriosis after orthotopic liver transplantation have been reported in the English literature. Most reported cases were successfully treated with intravenous ampicillin. There were four cases of listeria meningitis, and the mortality of them was 50%. Early detection and treatment of listeria meningitis are the key to obtaining a better prognosis.

Since the F_(5)(2005),three winter wheat composite cross populations(ccPs)based on germplasm specifically suitable for low-input conditions were subjected to natural selection under organic and conventional *** the F_(6),each ccP was divided into two parallel populations(12 ccPs in total)and maintained continuously until *** used modern cultivars with different disease susceptibilities were grown alongside to assess the agronomic performance of the *** organically managed ccPs were comparable in yield and foliar disease resistance to two continuously used reference cultivars,Achat and *** contrast,under conventional management the *** outyielded the ccPs(Achat was not tested),highlighting the importance of parental cultivar choice for specific management *** ccPs were found to be moderately resistant to brown rust and even to the newly emerged stripe rust races prevalent in Europe since *** between the ccPs were mainly due to parental genetic background and were significant in the first five generations,but were no longer so in the last five *** addition,these differences tended to vary depending on the experimental year and the environmental stresses *** conclusion,the ccPs despite being derived from older cultivars are able to compete with more recently released reference cultivars under organic farming practices and represent a dynamic germplasm resource.

As the energizing and therapeutic effects of infusions of mate(Ilex paraguariensis ***.-Hil)leaves are increasingly recognized,rising global consumption is also increasing the demand for plantlets with high genetic and morphological ***-cuttings are an alternative for clonal plantlets;however,more details are needed on factors that affect the success of this ***,toward maximizing production,we evaluated adventitious rooting competence of mini-cuttings of different sizes and the morphophysiological quality of the resultant ***(one bud;length up to 2.5 cm),medium(multiple buds;length 2.6–5.0 cm),and large(multiple buds;length 5.1–10.0 cm)mini-cuttings were planted in a mixture of commercial substrate,vermiculite,and coarse sand(1:1:1 v:v:v),grown in a humidity chamber,then evaluated after 45,60,75,and 90 days for survival,percentage of callus and shoot formation,number and length of shoots,percentage of rooted cuttings,and number and length of *** rooted mini-cuttings were then cultivated in commercial substrate and subsurface soil(2:1 v:v)and evaluated after 30,60,90 and 120 days of cultivation for morphophysiology of the plantlets,percentage of survival,number of leaves,shoot height,stem diameter,and ratio of shoot height to stem *** 120 days,the plantlets were evaluated for the ratio of shoot and root dry mass,total length,surface area,total volume,and mean diameter of roots and Dickson quality *** rooting of the mini-cuttings and the morphophysiological quality of the plantlets were not influenced by the size of the vegetative ***,single-bud mini-cuttings have similar adventitious rooting competence,and result in plantlets with adequate morphophysiological quality,based upon leaf development,shoot height,stem diameter and length,and surface area,volume and diameter of ***-bud mini-cuttings up to 2.5 cm long can thus be used to maximize production of mate plantlets by mini-c

Background:Retreatments are sometimes necessary to correct residual or induced refractive errors following refractive *** different combinations of primary treatment methods and retreatment techniques have been studied,however,few studies have investigated wavefront-optimized(WFO)technology for retreatment following primary refractive *** study aimed to report the outcomes of WFO photorefractive keratectomy(PRK)retreatments of refractive error following previous laser refractive surgery with PRK,laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK),or laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy(LASEK).Methods:We reviewed records of patients who underwent WFO PRK retreatments using the Allegretto Wave Eye-Q 400 Hz Excimer Laser System(Alcon Surgical)between January 2008 and April 2011 at Walter Reed Army Medical center and Madigan Army Medical *** were recorded in terms of uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA),manifest refraction spherical equivalent(MRSE),corrected distance visual acuity(cDVA),and complications at 1 month(M),3 M,and 6 M ***:Seventy-eight patients(120 eyes)underwent WFO PRK retreatment during the study *** surgery was surface ablation in 87 eyes(78 PRK,9 LASEK)and LASIK in 33 *** mean spherical equivalent before retreatment was−0.79±0.94 D(−3.00 to 1.88 D).UDVA was≥20/20 in 69 eyes(60.0%)at 1 M,54 eyes(71.1%)at 3 M,and 27 eyes(73.0%)at 6 M *** was within±0.50 D of emmetropia in 78 eyes(67.8%)at 1 M,59 eyes(77.6%)at 3 M,and 25 eyes(67.6%)at 6 M *** was maintained within±1 line of pre-op in 113 of 115 eyes(98.3%)at 1 M,74 of 76 eyes(97.4%)at 3 M,and 37 eyes(100%)at 6 M ***:Although follow-up was limited beyond 3 M,WFO PRK retreatments in patients with residual refractive error may be a safe and effective *** studies are necessary to determine the long-term safety and stability of outcomes.

AIM To determine the sensitivity and specificity of liver stiffness measurement(LSM) and serum markers(SM) for liver fibrosis evaluation in chronic hepatitis *** Between 2012 and 2014,81 consecutive hepatitis c virus(HcV) patients had METAVIR score from liver biopsy compared with concurrent results from LSM [transient elastography(TE) [FibroS can~/ARFI technology(Virtual Touch~)] and SM [FIB-4/aspartate aminotransferase-toplatelet ratio index(APRI)].The diagnostic performance of these tests was assessed using receiver operating characteristic *** optimal cut-off levels of each test were chosen to define fibrosis stages F ≥ 2,F ≥ 3 and F = *** Kappa index set the concordance *** Fifty point six percent were female and the median age was 51 years(30-78).Fifty-six patients(70%) weretreatment-na?*** optimal cut-off values for predicting F ≥ 2 stage fibrosis assessed by TE were 6.6 kP a,for acoustic radiation force impulse(ARFI) 1.22 m/s,for APRI 0.75 and for FIB-4 *** F ≥ 3 TE was 8.9 kP a,ARFI was 1.48 m/s,APRI was 0.75,and FIB-4 was *** F = 4,TE was 12.2 kP a,ARFI was 1.77 m/s,APRI was 1.46,and FIB-4 was *** APRI could not distinguish between F2 and F3,P = *** negative predictive value for F = 4 for TE and ARFI was 100%.Kappa index values for F ≥ 3 METAVIR score for TE,ARFI and FIB-4 were 0.687,0.606 and 0.654,*** demonstrates strong concordance between all three screening methods,and moderate to strong concordance between them and APRI(Kappa index = 0.507).cONcLUSION Given the costs and accessibility of LSM methods,and the similarity with the outcomes of SM,we suggest that FIB-4 as well as TE and ARFI may be useful indicators of the degree of liver *** is of particular importance to developing countries.

Plant Dicer-like(DcL)and Argonaute(AGO)are the key enzymes involved in anti-virus post-transcriptional gene silencing(AV-PTGS).Here we show that AV-PTGS exhibited nucleotide preference by calculating a relative AV-PTGS efficiency on processing viral RNA *** comparison with genome sequences of dicot-infecting Turnip mosaic virus(TuMV)and monocot-infecting cocksfoot streak virus(cSV),viral-derived small interfering RNAs(vsiRNAs)displayed positive correlations between AV-PTGS efficiency and G+c content(Gc%).Further investigations on nucleotide contents revealed that the vsiRNA populations had *** finding was further supported by our analyses of previously reported vsiRNA populations in diverse plant-virus associations,and AGO associated Arabidopsis endogenous siRNA populations,indicating that plant AGOs operated with *** further propose a hypothesis that AV-PTGS imposes selection pressure(s)on the evolution of plant *** hypothesis was supported when potyvirus genomes were analysed for evidence of Gc elimination,suggesting that plant virus evolution to have low Gc%genomes would have a unique function,which is to reduce the host AV-PTGS attack during infections.
