Neogene integrative stratigraphy and timescale of China

The widely exposed Chinese Neogene terrestrial deposits provide the best circumstance for the establishment of an accurate chronostratigraphic system of Eurasia, and the rapidly evolved mammalian fossils contribute efficiently to the division and correlation of Asian Neogene strata. A uniform Neogene biostratigraphic framework for China has already been established,with seven mammalian ages named. With a developed stratigraphic basis for the geochronologic "ages", seven chronostratigraphic "stage" have been established for the Chinese Neogene terrestrial strata, namely the Miocene Xiejian, Shanwangian,Tunggurian, Bahean, and Baodean stages, and the Pliocene Gaozhuangian and Mazegouan stages. Based on a series of research achievements, refined biostratigraphic, paleomagnetic and isotopic methods were combined and applied to continuous sections,and a Chinese Neogene chronostratigraphic sequence with accurate geological ages was established and improved in recent years. The lower boundaries of most of the stages could be correlated with those of the marine stages in the International Chronostratigraphic Chart, except the Tunggurian Stage, which is correlated with the European land mammal age. The biostratigraphic markers of the Chinese Neogene stages are usually first appearance of a single taxon, some representing regional species replacement, others indicating intercontinental migration of certain taxa. Candidate stratotype sections have been proposed for all the Chinese Neogene stages according to the principle and rule of modern stratigraphy, and other Chinese Neogene strata in different regions are comprehensively correlated.

Tailored energy absorption for a novel auxetic honeycomb structure under large deformation

In comparison to conventional hexagonal honeycomb structures,auxetic metamaterials with re-entrant configurations have exhibited superior mechanical properties in terms of energy *** further enhance the energy absorption capacity of these materials,a novel re-entrant honeycomb configuration,named novel auxetic re-entrant honeycomb(NARH),is developed by incorporating“”-shaped cell walls into the conventional auxetic re-entrant honeycomb(ARH).Two analytical models for the plateau stress are formulated to consider the plastic deformation of NARH during quasi-static compression and the dynamic impact using the linear momentum ***-static compression tests on 3D printed NARH honeycomb specimens and finite element simulations are performed to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical *** exhibits higher plateau stresses compared with ARH during compression,which can be attributed to the presence of more plastic hinges formed in *** hinges,the embedded parts with inclined cell walls,not only improve stability by forming stable triangles during compression but also enhance the energy absorption capacity.A parametric study is conducted to analyze the effect of impact velocity,thickness,and incline angle of cell walls on *** simulations demonstrate higher sensitivity of the mechanical properties to impact velocity and cell wall *** ribs to the“”-shaped cell walls in NARH further reduces the initial peak force during dynamic crushing while maintaining high energy *** research provides valuable guidelines for the design of energy absorption metamaterials.

Catalytic performance of Nb2O5 modified Ru/CeO2 for dichloromethane oxidation

1 wt% Ru/5 wt% Nb2O5/CeO2(RuNbCe) catalyst was synthesized via the incipient wetness impregnation method, and measured for the catalytic oxidation of dichloromethane(DCM). The physicochemical properties of catalysts were determined used various characterization techniques. Compared with 1 wt% Ru/CeO2, 5 wt%Nb2O5/CeO2, CeO2, 1 wt% Ru/xNb2O5/CeO2(x = 1 wt%, 2 wt%, and 3 wt%) and 1 wt% Ru/yMOn/CeO2(M =Co, Cr, Fe, Mg, Cu; y = 5 wt%), the addition of 5 wt% Nb2O5obviously improved the catalytic performance of 1 wt% Ru/CeO2, with the T90%and apparent activation energy(Ea) being 287℃ and 43.5 kJ/mol, respectively, and less formation of polychlorinated byproducts at space velocity(SV) = 15,000 mL g-1h-1. The RuNbCe catalyst showed good thermal and hydrothermal stability, as well as HCl-resistance performance. We deduced that the higher oxidation performance of the RuNbCe catalyst may be attributed to the suitable acidic sites, good redox capacity, high surface adsorbed oxygen species concentration, and the strong interaction among Ru, Nb2O5and CeO2. The RuNbCe catalyst has the potential to be applied for the elimination of chlorinated volatile organic compounds(CVOCs).

Transcutaneous Electrical Acupoint Stimulation Combined with Warm Acupuncture for Breast Cancer Related Upper Limb Lymphedema:A Retrospective Cohort Study

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation(TEAS)combined with warm acupuncture in treating breast cancer associated with upper limb lymphedema(BCRL).Methods This was a retrospective cohort study using a paired control ***-two BCRL patients were assigned to the control group(27 cases)and the treatment group(25 cases).The patients in the control group were treated with lymphedema comprehensive detumescence treatment(CDT)for 4 weeks,including systematic therapy composed of manual lymphatic drainage,compression bandage,skincare,and functional *** patients in the treatment group were treated with TEAS combined with warm acupuncture based on the control group *** treatment lasted for 30 min and was applied twice a week for 4 *** arm circumference(AC)of different positions of the affected limb and the degree of swelling of the affected limb were evaluated before the first treatment and after the last *** clinical efficacy was evaluated according to the degree of edema before and after *** adverse events during treatment were *** The patients’AC and the swelling feeling of the affected limb in the treatment group and the control group were both reduced compared with those before *** with the control group,AC of the wrist joint transverse stria,the midpoint between the wrist joint transverse stria and the elbow joint transverse stria in the treatment group were significantly reduced(P<0.05).The decrease in AC diameter at the midpoint between the elbow joint transverse stria and the axillary transverse stria was the most significant(P<0.01).The swelling degree of the affected limbs in the treatment group was significantly lower than before treatment,and was significantly lower compared with the control group after treatment(P<0.01).The total effective rate was 72%in the treatment group,significantly higher than that in the control group(55.56%,P<0

TRANSIENT THERMAL RESPONSE IN THICK ORTHOTROPIC HOLLOW CYLINDERS WITH FINITE LENGTH:HIGH ORDER SHELL THEORY

The transient thermal response of a thick orthotropic hollow cylinder with finite length is studied by a high order shell theory. The radial and axial displacements are assumed to have quadratic and cubic variations through the thickness, respectively. It is important that the radial stress is approximated by a cubic expansion satisfying the boundary conditions at the inner and outer surfaces, and the corresponding strain should be least-squares compatible with the strain derived from the strain-displacement relation. The equations of motion are derived from the integration of the equilibrium equations of stresses, which are solved by precise integration method （PIM）. Numerical results ***, and compared with FE simulations and dynamic thermo-elasticity solutions, which indicates that the high order shell theory is capable of predicting the transient thermal response of an orthotropic （or isotropic） thick hollow cylinder efficiently, and for the detonation tube of actual pulse detonation engines （PDE） heated continuously, the thermal stresses will become too large to be neglected, which are not like those in the one time experiments with very short time.

Electrical energy is essential for modern society to sustain economic *** soaring demand for the electrical energy,together with an awareness of the environmental impact of fossil fuels,has been driving a shift towards the utilization of solar ***,traditional solar energy solutions often require extensive spaces for a panel installation,limiting their practicality in a dense urban *** overcome the spatial constraint,researchers have developed transparent photovoltaics(TPV),enabling windows and facades in vehicles and buildings to generate electric *** TPV advancements are focused on improving both transparency and power output to rival commercially available silicon solar *** this review,we first briefly introduce wavelength-and non-wavelengthselective strategies to achieve *** of merit and theoretical limits of TPVs are discussed to comprehensively understand the status of current TPV *** we highlight recent progress in different types of TPVs,with a particular focus on solution-processed thin-film photovoltaics(PVs),including colloidal quantum dot PVs,metal halide perovskite PVs and organic *** applications of TPVs are also reviewed,with emphasis on agrivoltaics,smart windows and ***,current challenges and future opportunities in TPV research are pointed out.

Calibration of Discrete Element Heat Transfer Parameters by Central Composite Design

The efficiency and precision of parameter calibration in discrete element method （DEM） are not satisfactory, and parameter calibration for granular heat transfer is rarely involved. Accordingly, parameter calibration for granular heat transfer with the DEM is studied. The heat transfer in granular assemblies is simulated with DEM, and the effective thermal conductivity （ETC） of these granular assemblies is measured with the transient method in simulations. The measurement testbed is designed to test the ETC of the granular assemblies under normal pressure and a vacuum based on the steady method. Central composite design （CCD） is used to simulate the impact of the DEM parameters on the ETC of granular assemblies, and the heat transfer parameters are calibrated and compared with experimental data. The results show that, within the scope of the considered parameters, the ETC of the granular assemblies increases with an increasing particle thermal conductivity and decreases with an increasing particle shear modulus and particle diameter. The particle thermal conductivity has the greatest impact on the ETC of granular assemblies followed by the particle shear modulus and then the particle diameter. The calibration results show good agreement with the experimental results. The error is less than 4%, which is within a reasonable range for the scope of the CCD parameters. The proposed research provides high efficiency and high accuracy parameter calibration for granular heat transfer in DEM.

Characteristics and sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in impervious surface run-off in an urban area in Shanghai, China

Rainwater and run-off from three kinds of impervious surface in the Shanghai urban area,China were *** aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) were measured in the samples,and their sources were *** mean sum of the 16 PAH concentrations measured in rainwater and run-offs from ceramic tiles,asphalt roofs,and asphalt roads were 873,1404,1743,and 4023 ng/L,*** PAH concentrations found in this study were moderate compared to PAH concentrations found in run-offs in other *** main PAH components in the rainwater,roof run-off,and asphalt road run-off samples were 3-ring PAHs,3–4-ring PAHs,and 4–6-ring PAHs,*** apportionment results indicated that combustion(47.4%–55.5%) and vehicular emissions(30.5%–33.0%) were the major contributors to PAHs in roof *** emissions were the most significant contributors to asphalt road run-off(47.2%),followed by combustion(23.5%),and petroleum(16.3%).Vehicular emissions and coal and natural gas combustion are therefore the most significant sources of PAHs in run-off from impervious surfaces in the Shanghai urban area.
