Physical and chemical properties of ambient aerosols at the single particle level were studied in Shanghai from December 22 to 28, 2009. A cavity-Ring-Down Aerosol Extinction Spectrometer（cRD-AES） and a nephelometer were deployed to measure aerosol light extinction and scattering properties, respectively. An Aerosol Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer（ATOFMS）was used to detect single particle sizes and chemical composition. Seven particle types were detected. Air parcels arrived at the sampling site from the vicinity of Shanghai until mid-day of December 25, when they started to originate from North china. The aerosol extinction,scattering, and absorption coefficients all dropped sharply when this cold, clean air *** particles changed from a highly aged type before this meteorological shift to a relatively fresh type afterwards. The aerosol optical properties were dependent on the wind *** with high extinction coefficient and scattering Angstrom exponent（SAE） were observed when the wind blew from the west and northwest, indicating that they were predominantly fine particles. Nitrate and ammonium correlated most strongly with the change in aerosol optical properties. In the elemental carbon/organic carbon（EcOc） particle type, the diurnal trends of single scattering albedo（SSA） and elemental carbon（Ec） signal intensity had a negative correlation. We also found a negative correlation（r =-0.87） between high mass-Oc particle number fraction and the SSA in a relatively clean period, suggesting that particulate aromatic components might play an important role in light absorption in urban areas.

Leveraging the interactions between ionomer and catalyst can increase the performance of proton exchangemembrane fuel *** impacts of the equivalent weight(EW)of perfluorosulfonic acid-based ionomers on the platinum group metal-free electrode structure and fuel cell performance have not been fully *** membrane electrode assemblies(MEAs)were prepared by using a commercial Fe-N-c catalyst,two perfluorosulfonic acid ionomers with different EWs,that is,Aquivion 720(A720)and Nafion 1100(N1100),and two ionomer-tocatalyst(I/c)*** four MEAswere characterized to understand the impact of the ionomer EW and content on the capacitance,proton conductivity,and mass transport on the *** mass transport resistance was measured for the first time using a new oxygen reduction reaction limiting current method enabling to couple the effects of oxygen diffusion with liquid water *** EW ionomer combined with a moderate I/c results in improved performance due to its enhanced proton ***,when used at high I/c,it can cause severewater flooding at high current density due to the enhanced liquid water uptake,especially at high relative humidity,resulting in lower catalyst utilization and higher mass transport resistance.

Landslide susceptibility assessment plays a vital role in understanding landslide information in advance and taking preventive as well as control measures. The need to initially specify the number of clusters, difficulty in handling noise and quantifying rainfall data, limits the application of traditional clustering models in landslide susceptibility assessment which then lowers their performance accuracy. Thus, to overcome these limitations, this study proposed an improved clustering algorithm titled the DBScAN-AHD algorithm, which combines the traditional DBScAN(Density Based Spatial clustering of Application with Noise) algorithm and an Adaptive Hausdorff Distance(AHD) for landslide susceptibility modeling. Firstly, AHD was introduced to the traditional DBScAN to quantify rainfall. Then,the DBScAN-AHD grouped the mapping units with similar topology and geology characteristics into subclasses without specifying the number of clusters in advance for its ability to handle noise in the ***, the LD-EV(landslide density or eigenvalues) approach was introduced to obtain the susceptibility levels using K-means algorithm. Finally,to verify the model’s performance, statistical indices and the area under the curve(AUc) were applied and compared to the traditional DBScAN, KPSO, Kmeans and Hierarchical clustering algorithms,whereby, the proposed model outperformed the others. Also, the obtained susceptibility map can provide references in taking relevant preventive and control measures.

There is an increasing availability of geospatial data describing patterns of human settlement and population such as various global remote-sensing based built-up land layers,fine-grained census-based population estimates,and publicly available cadastral and building footprint *** development constitutes new integrative modeling opportunities to characterize the continuum of urban,peri-urban,and rural settlements and ***,little research has been done regarding the agreement between such data products in measuring human presence which is measured by different proxy variables(*** of built-up structures derived from different remote sensors,census-derived population counts,or cadastral land parcels).In this work,we quantitatively evaluate and cross-compare the ability of such data to model the urban continuum,using a unique,integrated validation database of cadastral and building footprint data,*** data,and three different versions of the Global Human Settlement Layer(GHSL)derived from remotely sensed *** identify advantages and shortcomings of these data types across different geographic settings in the U.S.,which will inform future data users on implications of data accuracy and suitability for a given application,even in data-poor regions of the world.

Endoscopic management for difficult common bile duct(cBD)stones still presents a challenge for several reasons,including anatomic anomalies,patients’individual conditions and stone *** recent years,variable methods have emerged that have attributed to higher stone removal success rates,reduced cost and lower adverse *** this review,we outline a stepwise approach in cBD stone *** first line therapy,endoscopic sphincterotomy and large balloon dilation are recommended,due to a 30%-50%reduction of the use of mechanical *** the other hand,cholangioscopy-assisted lithotripsy has been increasingly reported as an effective and safe alternative technique to mechanical lithotripsy but remains to be reserved in special settings due to limited large-scale *** discussed,findings suggest that management needs to be tailored to the patient’s characteristics and anatomical ***,we evaluate the management of cBD stones in various surgical altered anatomy(Billroth II,Roux-en-Y and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass).Moreover,we could conclude that cholangioscopy-assisted lithotripsy needs to be evaluated for primary use,rather than following a failed management *** addition,we discuss the importance of dissecting other techniques,such as the primary use of interventional endoscopic ultrasound for the management of cBD stones when other techniques have *** conclusion,we recognize that endoscopic sphincterotomy and large balloon dilation,mechanical lithotripsy and intraductal lithotripsy substantiate an indication to the management of difficult cBD stones,but emerging techniques are in rapid evolution with encouraging results.

Litter production and decomposition are critical to forest productivity,nutrient cycling,and carbon seques-tration in tropical woody ***,nutrient release and leaf litter stoichiometry in tropical legume tree plantations over the long term after outplanting are poorly understood or even *** improving our under-standing of the pattern of changes in the decomposition of N-fixing leaf litters and their possible impact on carbon stor-age,we measured litter production,mass loss and nutrient release for 240 d during litter decomposition for two tropical legume tree species(Plathymenia reticulata and Hymenaea courbaril),in Rio de Janeiro,*** production for *** was 5.689 kg ha^(−1) a^(−1) and 3.231 kg ha^(−1) a^(−1) for *** patterns of mass loss rates were similar;however,nutrient release was greater for ***,while *** showed immobilization of nutrients,especially for N,which increased by almost 20%in the early phase of decomposition followed by gradual *** from the N-fixing species did differ in nutrient chemistries over time,which was not surprising given that initial nutrient concentrations varied broadly,except for c and *** of the nutrient concentrations increased as the remaining litter mass decreased in both species,except for c and *** c:N and N:P ratios differed between the species,but N:P did not correlate to mass *** species had N-rich leaves,but *** decomposition was very likely P-limited,while *** seemed to be co-limited by N and *** results showed different patterns in nutrient release and the stoichi-ometry involved in the decomposition dynamics of the two tropical N-fixing species,even though they have similar litter decay *** species,but especially ***,may help re-establish nutrient cycling in disturbed ecosystems.
