The objective of the present investigation was to formulate nanoparticles constructed using PLGA polymer for the effective targeted delivery to brain via nasal route. The PLGA nanoparticles were optimized using novel design of experiment technique by 23 full factorial design. Drug: polymer ratio（X1）, surfactant concentration（X2） and stirring speed（X3） were identified as critical process parameters, and its impact on particle size（Y1） and % entrapment efficiency（Y2） was studied. The optimized nanoparticle formulation was conjugated with glutathione as an endogenous ligand by using carbodiimide chemistry using(1-Ethyl-3-（3-dimethylaminopropyl）carbodiimide)（EDAC） as linker molecule. From Ellman's assay,it was found that a total of 691.27 ± 151 units of glutathione were conjugated upon each PLGA nanoparticle. The in vitro release studies as well as ex vivo studies revealed biphasic pattern of drug release with initial burst release followed by slow exponential release of drug over a period of 24 h. The in vivo biodistribution studies were conducted on rat following nasal administration of the nanoparticle formulation（conjugated and unconjugated）and were compared with plain paclitaxel suspension. The results clearly demonstrated that the brain targeting efficiency was enhanced with the glutathione conjugated formulation（387.474%） as compared to the unconjugated nanoparticle formulation（224.327%）. Further,the in vitro in vivo correlation studies revealed good relationship（R2> 0.95） as obtained from the levy plot. Glutathione proves to be an efficient vector for the successful transport of poor bioavailable drug to the brain.

An optimized combination of gamma alumina (4 wt.%) and strontium (0.1 wt.%) was incorporated in cast Al-20Si alloy to obtain fine form of silicon. During casting process, the amount of γ-Al2O3 was varied from 0.5.6 wt.% to refine primary Si and Sr was varied from 0.***.0.1 wt.% to modify eutectic Si. The results showed that the average size of primary Si is 24 μm for addition of 4 wt.%γ-Al2O3 to the alloy whereas 0.1 wt.% Sr resulted in sphericity of eutectic Si to ~0.6 and average length of ~1.2 μm. The thermal analysis revealed that γ-Al2O3 can act as potential heterogeneous nucleation sites. Moreover, simultaneous addition of γ-Al2O3 and Sr does not poison γ-Al2O3 particles and inhibit their nucleation efficiency as in the case of combined addition of phosphorous and strontium to Al-20Si alloy. Therefore, it was concluded that enhanced tensile strength, i.e., ultimate tensile strength (increase by 20%) and elongation (increase by 23%) in Al-20Si.4γ-Al2O3.0.1wt.%Sr alloy as compared to as-cast Al.20Si alloy can be attributed to refinement of primary Si, modification of eutectic Si and the presence of α(Al) in the alloy as evident from eutectic shift.

BACKGROUND Situs inversus totalis(SIT)may be an incidental finding in asymptomatic *** may not understand the implications of this condition and the importance of relaying the diagnosis to their healthcare *** SUMMARY We report an asymptomatic seventeen-year-old adolescent with previouslydiagnosed SIT who presented for a routine well-child *** history taking,he denied any past medical conditions,including cardiovascular *** when physical exam revealed point of maximal impulse and heart sounds on the right side,did he convey that he had been diagnosed with SIT incidentally at age of 12 *** was not aware of associated conditions or the potential implications of his diagnosis,nor did he realize it is pertinent medical history to be relayed to healthcare *** X-ray confirmed dextrocardia and abdominal X-ray showed right-sided *** sonogram showed left-sided liver and right-sided *** showed normal valvular structure and function.A comprehensive discussion was provided to address the patient’s lack of understanding that SIT is a medical diagnosis with potential *** While SIT is rare and mostly asymptomatic,affected patients may not comprehend the importance of the diagnosis and its potential *** of the patient’s lack of awareness allows the healthcare provider to educate the patient and hopefully can prevent potential medical and surgical complications.

Soil organic carbon （SOC） sequestration is one of the major agricultural strategies to mitigate greenhouse gas （GHG） emissions, enhance food security, and improve agricultural sustainability. This paper synthesizes the much-needed state- of-knowledge on the effects of tillage, crop residue, and nutrient management practices on SOC sequestration and identifies potential research gap, opportunities, and challenges in studying SOC dynamics in rice （Oryza sativa L.）-based cropping systems in South Asia, mainly in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Improved management prac- tices such as reduced- and no-tillage management, nitrogen （N） fertilizer and farmyard manure （FYM） application, and crop residue addition can improve SOC accumulation. Positive effects of no-tillage, crop residue addition, N addition through manure or compost application, and integration of organic and chemical fertilizers on SOC accumulation in rice-based cropping systems have been documented from South Asia. However, limited data and enormous discrepancies in SOC measurements across the region exist as the greatest challenge in increasing SOC sequestration and improving agricultural sustainability. More research on SOC as influenced by alternative tillage, crop residue, and nutrient management systems, and development of SOC monitoring system for existing long-term experiments will advance our understanding of the SOC dynamics in rice-based cropping systems and improve agricultural system sustainability in South Asia.

We propose an approach to detect the temporary faults induced by an environmental phenomenon called single event upset(SEU). Berger code based self-checking checkers provides an online detection of faults in digital circuits as well as in memory arrays. In this work, a concurrent Berger code based online self-testable architecture is proposed and integrated in 32-bit DLX reduced instruction set computer(RISC) processor on a single silicon chip. The proposed concurrent test methodology is implemented and verified for various arithmetic and logical operations of the DLX processor. The FPGA implementation of the proposed design shows that a meager increase in hardware utilization facilitates online self-testing to detect temporary faults.

Lacustrine Record of 1954 Flood Event on Begnas and Rupa Lake, Central Nepal

In recent decades, there have been discussions and predictions regarding the impact of climate on floods, due to its socioeconomic and environmental consequences. For accurate prediction of future flood events and their impacts, it is crucial to have an improved understanding on past flood events. Lacustrine sediments have been used as a natural archive to study the past flood events. Here, we study the impact of 1954 flood event on the lacustrine environment of Bengas and Rupa Lake in central Nepal based on X-ray fluorescence spectrometry(XRF) element analysis, magnetic susceptibility(MS), total organic carbon(TOC) and the biomarker molecular compositions. Results showed that 1954 flood event had significant impacts on the two lakes in terms of detrital input, organic matter deposition and aquatic production. Before the flood event, both two studied lakes had relatively lower catchment erosion rate, lower organic matter deposition and aquatic production. During the flood event, catchment erosion and aquatic production increased in both lakes due to mass transport deposits and the increased nutrition loading attributed to flood event. Following the flood event, Begnas Lake showed the sharp increase in organic matter deposition, whereas in the Rupa Lake organic matter deposition showed minor changes. The difference in organic matter deposition in lakes during flooding event is likely due to detrital material brought and deposited by the flood activity. Overall our results suggest that lacustrine sediments are sensitive to the extreme event and would be an ideal archive for the reconstruction of flood events.

Background： Precision medicine approach holds great promise to tailored diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Individuals can be vastly different in their genomic information and genetic mechanisms hence having unique transcriptomic signatures. The development of precision medicine has demanded moving beyond DNA sequencing （DNA-Seq） to much more pointed RNA-sequencing （R_NA-Seq） [Cell, 2017, 168： 584--599]. Results： Here we conduct a brief survey on the recent methodology development of transcriptome assembly approach using RNA-Seq. Conclusions： Since transcriptomes in human disease are highly complex, dynamic and diverse, transcriptome assembly is playing an increasingly important role in precision medicine research to dissect the molecular mechanisms of the human diseases.
