The carcinogenic potential of iron in colorectal cancer(CRC) is not fully *** is able to undergo reduction and oxidation,making it important in many physiological *** inherent redox property of iron,however,also renders it toxic when it is present in ***-mediated generation of reactive oxygen species via the Fenton reaction,if uncontrolled,may lead to cell damage as a result of lipid peroxidation and oxidative DNA and protein *** may promote carcinogenesis through increased genomic instability,chromosomal rearrangements as well as mutations of proto-oncogenes and tumour suppressor genes. Carcinogenesis is also affected by inflammation which is exacerbated by *** studies indicate an association between high dietary iron intake and CRC *** this editorial,we examine the link betweeniron-induced oxidative stress and inflammation on the pathogenesis of CRC.

The recent advancements in thermoelectric materials are largely credited to two factors,namely established physical theories and advanced materials engineering *** developments in the physical theories have come a long way from the“phonon glass electron crystal”paradigm to the more recent band convergence and nanostructuring,which consequently results in drastic improvement in the thermoelectric figure of merit *** the other hand,the progresses in materials fabrication methods and processing technologies have enabled the discovery of new physical mechanisms,hence further facilitating the emergence of high-performance thermoelectric *** recent years,many comprehensive review articles are focused on various aspects of thermoelectrics ranging from thermoelectric materials,physical mechanisms and materials process techniques in particular with emphasis on solid state *** bottom-up approaches to obtain thermoelectric materials have widely been employed in thermoelectrics,comprehensive reviews on summarizing such methods are still *** this review,we will outline a variety of bottom-up strategies for preparing high-performance thermoelectric *** addition,state-of-art,challenges and future opportunities in this domain will be commented.

There has long been a controversy whether forbidden points truly exist, or if they have any bearing in contemporary practice. This study used literature review synthesis method to examine the application of acupuncture at the "forbidden points" for low back pain and pelvic pain in pregnancy. This study addresses the potential implications of needling the forbidden points during pregnancy.

Liver transplantation has been reported in the literature as an extreme intervention in cases of severe and complicated hepatic *** main indications for liver transplant in such cases were uncontrollable bleeding and postoperative hepatic *** here describe four cases of orthotopic liver transplantation after penetrating or blunt liver *** indications were liver failure,extended liver necrosis,liver gangrene and multiple episodes of gastrointestinal bleeding related to portal hypertension,*** patient died due to postoperative cerebral *** other three patients recovered well and remain on *** transplantation should be considered as a saving procedure in severe hepatic trauma,when all other treatment modalities fail.

We have examined ten human subjects with a previously developed instrument for near-infrared diffuse spectral imaging of the female *** instrument is based on a tandem,planar scan of two collinear optical fibers(one for illumination and one for collection)to image a gently compressed breast in a transmission *** optical data collection features a spatial sampling of 25 points/cm2 over the whole breast,and a spectral sampling of 2 points/nm in the 650-900nm wavelength *** the ten human subjects examined,eight are healthy subjects and two are cancer patients with unilateral invasive ductal carcinoma and ductal carcinoma in situ,*** each subject,we generate second-derivative images that identify a network of highly absorbing structures in the breast that we assign to blood vessels.A previously developed paired-wavelength spectral method assigns oxygenation values to the absorbing structures displayed in the second-derivative *** resulting oxygenation images feature average values over the whole breast that are significantly lower in cancerous breasts(69±14%,n=2)than in healthy breasts(85±7%,n=18)(p<0.01).Furthermore,in the two patients with breast cancer,the average oxygenation values in the cancerous regions are also significantly lower than in the remainder of the breast(invasive ductal carcinoma:49±11%vs 61±16%,p<0.01;ductal carcinoma in situ:58±8%vs 77±11%,p<0.001).

The decoding release factor (RF) triggers termination of protein synthesis by functionally mimicking a tRNA to spanthe decoding centre and the peptidyl transferase centre (PTC) of the ribosome. Structurally, it must fit into a site craftedfor a tRNA and surrounded by five other RNAs, namely the adjacent peptidyl tRNA carrying the completed polypeptide,the mRNA and the three rRNAs. This is achieved by extending a structural domain from the body of the protein thatresults in a critical conformational change allowing it to contact the PTC. A structural model of the bacterial terminationcomplex with the accommodated RF shows that it makes close contact with the first, second and third bases of the stopcodon in the mRNA with two separate loops of structure: the anticodon loop and the loop at the tip of helix α5. Theanticodon loop also makes contact with the base following the stop codon that is known to strongly influence termina-tion efficiency. It confirms the close contact of domain 3 of the protein with the key RNA structures of the PTC. ThemRNA signal for termination includes sequences upstream as well as downstream of the stop codon, and this may reflectstructural restrictions for specific combinations of tRNA and RF to be bound onto the ribosome together. An unbiasedSELEX approach has been investigated as a tool to identify potential rRNA-binding contacts of the bacterial RF in itsdifferent binding conformations within the active centre of the ribosome.

Factors associated with crash severity on rural roadways in Wyoming

The ability to identify risk factors associated with crashes is critical to determine appropriate countermeasures for improving roadway safety. Many studies have identified risk factors for urban systems and intersections, but few have addressed crashes on rural roadways, and none have analyzed crashes on Indian Reservations. This study analyzes crash severity for rural highway systems in Wyoming. These rural systems include interstates, state highways, rural county local roads, and the roadway system on the Wind River Indian Reservation （WRIR）. In alignment with the Wyoming strategic highway safety goal of reducing critical crashes {fatal and serious injury}, crash severity was treated as a binary response in which crashes were classified as severe or not severe. Multiple logistic regression models were developed for each of the highway systems. Five effects were prevalent on all systems including animals, driver impairment, motorcycles, mean speed, and safety equipment use. With the exception of animal crashes, all of these effects increased the probability that a crash would be severe. Based upon these results, DOTs can pursue effective policies and targeted design decisions to reduce the severity of crashes on rural highways.

Due to safety concerns and side effects of many antidepressant medications, herbal psychopharmacology research has increased, and herbal remedies are becoming increasingly popular as alternatives to prescribed medications for the treatment of major depressive disorder （MDD）. Of these, accumulating trials reveal positive effects of the spice saffron （Crocus sativus L.） for the treatment of depression. A comprehensive and statistical review of the clinical trials examining the effects of saffron for treatment of MDD is warranted. OBJECTIVE： The purpose of this study was to conduct a meta-analysis of published randomized controlled trials examining the effects of saffron supplementation on symptoms of depression among participants with MDD. SEARCH STRATEGY： We conducted electronic and non-electronic searches to identify all relevant randomized, double-blind controlled trials. Reference lists of all retrieved articles were searched for relevant studies. INCLUSION CRITERIA： The criteria for study selection included the following：（1） adults （aged 18 and older） with symptoms of depression, （2） randomized controlled trial, （3） effects of saffron supplementation on depressive symptoms examined, and （4） study had either a placebo control or antidepressant comparison group. DATA EXTRACTION AND ANALYSIS： Using random effects modeling procedures, we calculated weighted mean effect sizes separately for the saffron supplementation vs placebo control groups, and for the saffron supplementation vs antidepressant groups. The methodological quality of all studies was assessed using the Jadad score. The computer software Comprehensive Meta- analysis 2 was used to analyze the data. RESULTS： Based on our pre-specified criteria, five randomized controlled trials （n = 2 placebo controlled trials, n = 3 antidepressant controlled trials） were included in our review. Hydrogen is considered an attractive alternative to fossil fuels,but only a small amount of it is produced from renewable energy,making it not such a clean energy carrier after *** hydrogen through water electrolysis is promising,but using a cost-effective and high-performing catalyst that has longterm stability is still a *** study exploits,for the first time,the potential of zinc oxide nanoparticles with diverse morphologies as catalysts for the electrocatalytic production of hydrogen from *** morphology of the nanoparticles(wires,cuboids,spheres)was easily regulated by changing the concentration of sodium hydroxide,used as the shape controlling agent,during the *** spherical morphology exhibited the highest electrocatalytic activity at the lowest potential *** spherical nanoparticles had the highest number of oxygen vacancies and lowest particle size compared to the other two morphologies,features directly linked to high catalytic ***,the nanowires were much more stable with repeated ***-functional theory showed that the presence of oxygen vacancies in all three morphologies led to diminished band gaps,which is of catalytic interest.
