How Does the Blue C Stock Vary in Restored and Degraded Wetlands Across Land Cover Mosaics? Evidences from Medinipur Coastal Plain, India

Coastal wetlands are of paramount importance as major reservoirs of blue carbon(C),playing a crucial role in providing nature-based solutions to mitigate climatic *** research aimed to analyse the dynamics of total blue C(TBC)and its components;*** organic C(SOC),below ground C,and above ground C;as well how they are influenced by land use/land cover(LULC)categories and wetland ***,study were identified as one restored wetland and another degraded wetland in the Medinipur Coastal Plain,*** LULC categories were analyzed using Pleiades 1A and 1B satellite imagery,corresponding to the restored and degraded wetland,*** quantification of SOC was based on point-specific sample data collected from both wetlands(nr=250;nd=84).Above ground biomass(AGB)was appraised employing allometric relationships involving field-measured dendrometric *** ground biomass values were calculated using indirect allometric equations that take into account the AGB *** all the components,TBC stock of the restored and degraded wetlands were estimated at 246710.91 Mg and 7865.49 Mg,*** the restored wetland,dense mangrove and open mangrove exhibited higher concentrations of blue C components,while other LULC categories demonstrated moderate to low *** the degraded wetland,the open mangrove category rechigh densities of C pools,whereas herbaceous vegetation,bare earth and sand,and waterbody exhibited lower *** results portrayed significant disparities(P<0.05)in blue C pools among different LULC categories in both ***,it was evident that wetland type and LULC category had notable(P<0.001)impacts on TBC dynamics,both individually and in ***,this research may aid in effective management of coastal wetlands as blue C sinks,emphasizing their significance as essential elements of climate mitigation strategies.

Background Tropical floodplain wetlands are among the most disturbed and intensively harvested *** sustainable management is often hindered due to the lack of comprehensive,coherent,and standardized assessment frameworks of wetland ecological health(WEH).In this study,a set of appropriate criteria and indicators(C&I)of WEH assessment was developed and tested on seven wetlands of River Ichhamati,eastern *** Based on the pressure-state-response(PSR)approach,evaluation indicators representing ecological,socio-economic,and institutional sustainability issues of floodplain wetland systems were either selected or formulated through literature survey and stakeholder *** of indicators were assigned by the entropy weighting method and then used in the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution model to determine the Euclidean distances of each wetland from the positive ideal solution and negative ideal ***,a comprehensive wetland ecological health index(CWEHI)was constructed from these distances to portray the condition of any PSR system component in a wetland under a fivefold classification scheme,namely‘excellent health’(CWEHI≥0.81),‘good health’(0.61-0.80),‘moderate health’(0.41-0.60),‘weak health’(0.21-0.40),and‘morbid’(≤0.20).Results The developed C&I set contains 8 criteria and 38 indicators under pressure component,7 criteria and 49 indicators under state component,as well as 4 criteria and 18 indicators under response *** applied in 2016 and 2022,it was found that the Panchita and Aromdanga wetlands were continuously in weak and morbid health status,while the Madhabpur wetland always showed an excellent or good status for all *** of other wetlands oscillated between moderate and morbid health across assessment years and system *** The developed C&I set was found to be a flexible,holistic,and refined framework that could be applied elsewhere in sim

The world’s largest mangrove ecosystem,the Sunderbans is experiencing multidimensional threats of *** present study was aimed to understand these problems and search for proper remedies by applying suitable remote sensing ***-western parts of Indian Sunderbans Biosphere Reserve had been chosen for assessment of land use/land cover changes in between 1975 and 2006 by using multitemporal Landsat *** indicated considerable reduction of open mangrove stands and associated biodiversity mainly in the forest-habitation interference zones of *** the contrary,increase in the coverage of dense mangroves in the reserved forests had been observed indicating the existence of proper centralized management ***,a cumulative loss of approximately 0.42%of its original mangrove cover in between 1975 and 2006 had been estimated for this part of the Sunderbans which was at parity with the findings of other studies in the Sunderbans or similar mangrove ecosystems of the *** of non agricultural lands in the last two decades was found to be related with the growth of new settlements,tourism infrastructure,and *** transformation was attributed to the shifting of local peoples’interest from traditional forestry and subsistence farming towards alternative occupations like shrimp culture,coastal tourism,and commercial fishing although environmentally hazardous livelihood activities like collection of prawn seeds along the riverbanks were still persistent.

Spatially explicit estimation of soil organic carbon stock of an estuarine mangrove wetland of eastern India using elemental analysis and very-fine resolution satellite data

Background:This study estimated the total soil organic C(SOC)stock of the wetland influence zone of Bichitrapur mangroves in eastern India in a spatially explicit *** spatial and vertical distribution of SOC densities with respect to land use/land cover(LULC)pattern were ***,some site-specific management strate-gies were forwarded towards enhancement of C sequestration ***:The changing patterns of LULC within the wetland influence zone of the site were analyzed using Landsat TM(30 m)and Pleiades-1A(2 m)imageries from 1988 to ***-specific SOC measurement was done using samples taken from four core-depth intervals(viz.D1:0–20 cm,D2:20–40 cm,D3:40–70 cm,D4:70–100 cm)at 89 locations belonging to different LULC *** interpolation was applied on this point-based data to produce SOC density and stock models as a whole and at all *** between SOC density,core-depth and present LULC were evaluated through multivariate statistical ***:The LULC transformations during last three decades suggested the gradual growth of mangrove plantations as well as agricultural and aquacultural *** amount of SOC was concentrated in D1(37.17%)followed by D3(26.51%),while D4 had the lowest(10.87%).The highest mean SOC density was observed in the dense mangrove patches(248.92 Mg ha^(−1))and the lowest mean was in the Casuarina plantations(2.78 Mg ha^(−1)).Here,Spline method emerged as the best-fit interpolation technique to model SOC data(R^(2)=0.74)and estimated total SOC stock of the entire wetland influence zone as 169,569.40 Mg and the grand mean as 125.56 Mg ha^(−1).Overall,LULC was inferred as a major determinant of SOC dynamics with a statistically significant effect(p<0.001),whereas no such inference could be drawn for soil ***:The C sequestration potential of sites such as the present one could be increased with appropriate zone-wise plantation strategies,restrict

Objective:The prevalence of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)rapidly increases after the 4th decade of *** combination of tamsulosin and dutasteride is a well established therapy for BPH of40 ***-invasive urodynamic parameters can predict the outcome of medical therapy in patients with *** aimed to correlate these parameters with treatment responses in BPH patients under medical ***:A prospective study was conducted in the Department of Urology in our hospital from May 2014 to April 2015.A total of 100 patients with BPH40 g who fulfilled our inclusion criteria were *** responses were determined by the International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS)and *** ultrasonography with Doppler was performed to measure prostate volume,intravesical prostatic protrusion(IPP),detrusor wall thickness(DWT),the prostatic capsular artery resistive index(RI)and prostatic urethral angle(PUA)before and 3 months after combination therapy of tamsulosin and *** responses were correlated with non-invasive urodynamic ***:The IPSS,uroflow,age,prostate volume,RI,IPP,DWT and PUA were correlated before and after *** the 100 patients,70(70%)showed significant improvement and 30(30%)showed no improvement with ***:Ultrasound bladder parameters are useful tools for measuring the treatment response in BPH *** study shows that RI and DWT significantly correlate with the treatment response in BPH *** importantly,pretreatment values of increased IPP and PUA determines the non-improvement of symptoms in BPH *** study suggests the importance of transabdominal ultrasonography(KUBeP)with Doppler for evaluating treatment responses to medical management.

A substantial amount of the Indian economy depends solely on ***,on the other hand,plays a significant role in agriculture–while an adequate amount of rainfall can be considered as a blessing,if the amount is inordinate or scant,it can ruin the entire hard work of the *** this work,the rainfall dataset of the Vellore region,of Tamil Nadu,India,in the years 2021 and 2022 is forecasted using several machine learning *** engineering has been performed in this work in order to generate new features that remove all sorts of autocorrelation present in the *** removal of autocorrelation,the data could be used for performing operations on the time-series data,which otherwise could only be performed on any other regular regression *** work uses forecasting techniques like the AutoRegessive Integrated Moving Average(ARIMA)and exponential smoothening,and then the time-series data is further worked on using Long Short Term Memory(LSTM).Later,regression techniques are used by manipulating the *** work is benchmarked with several evaluation metrics on a test dataset,where XGBoost Regression technique outperformed the *** uniqueness of this work is that it forecasts the daily rainfall for the year 2021 and 2022 in Vellore *** work can be extended in the future to predict rainfall over a bigger region based on previously recorded time-series data,which can help the farmers and common people to plan accordingly and take precautionary measures.

A rare case of nephrococutaneous fistula due to spontaneous expulsion of renal calculi is described.A 45-year-old man presented with urinary leakage from an ulcer over the left lumbar region for the last 3 months after a history of spontaneous expulsion of stones from this *** abdomen revealed a small contracted kidney with multiple calculi in the kidney and renal pelvis,sinus tract from the lower pole of the left kidney with a ruptured calyceal calculus in the sinus *** urography revealed a non excreting left kidney with multiple renal calculi,with hyperdense collection in the renal parenchyma extending to the subcutaneous tissue and left lung suggesting a xenthogranulomatous pyelonephritis(XGP).We performed a left-sided simple nephrectomy with excision of the fistulous *** examination revealed *** have been a few case reports of XGP forming nephrocutaneous fistula in the back.

The pandemic situation in 2020 brought about a‘digitized new normal’and created various issues within the current education *** of the issues is the monitoring of students during online examination situations.A system to determine the student’s eye gazes during an examination can help to eradicate *** this work,we track the users’eye gazes by incorporating twelve facial landmarks around both eyes in conjunction with computer vision and the HAAR *** aim to implement eye gaze detection by considering facial landmarks with two different Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)models,namely the AlexNet model and the VGG16 *** proposed system outperforms the traditional eye gaze detection system which only uses computer vision and the HAAR classifier in several evaluation metric *** proposed system is accurate without the need for complex ***,it can be implemented in educational institutes for the fair conduct of examinations,as well as in other instances where eye gaze detection is required.
