Th.re is a strong negative correlation between prostate cancer and circumcision rate across 181 countries （P〈0.0001）. Adding to th. large protective effect of cir- cumcision seen in small studies over th. past six decades, a recent large study in Seattle h.s sh.wn a smaller protective effect. If verified by oth.r large studies else- wh.re, th. finding would add to th. wide array of benefits conferred by th.s safe, sim- ple procedure th.t is best performed in infancy.

h.licobacter pylori (h. pylori) is an extremely common, yet underappreciated, path.gen th.t is able to alter h.st ph.siology and subvert th. h.st immune response, allowing it to persist for th. life of th. h.st. h. pylori is th. primary cause of peptic ulcers and gastric cancer. In th. United States, th. annual cost associated with.peptic ulcer disease is estimated to be $6 billion and gastric cancer kills over 700000 people per year globally. Th. prevalence of h. pylori infection remains h.gh.(> 50%) in much.of th. world, alth.ugh.th. infection rates are dropping in some developed nations. Th. drop in h. pylori prevalence could be a double-edged sword, reducing th. incidence of gastric diseases wh.le increasing th. risk of allergies and esoph.geal diseases. Th. list of diseases potentially caused by h. pylori continues to grow; h.wever, mech.nistic explanations of h.w h. pylori could contribute to extragastric diseases lag far beh.nd clinical studies. A number of h.st factors and h. pylori virulence factors act in concert to determine wh.ch.individuals are at th. h.gh.st risk of disease. Th.se include bacterial cytotoxins and polymorph.sms in h.st genes responsible for directing th. immune response. Th.s review discusses th. latest advances in h. pylori path.genesis, diagnosis, and treatment. Up-to-date information on correlations between h. pylori and extragastric diseases is also provided.

Ruth.rford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS) and particle - induced X - ray emission (PIXE) analysis h.ve been performed on microelectronic circuits with.a spatial resolution of approximately 2 μm. Studies on th.n films of superconductors will be presented. Several examples of ch.mical and microstructural analysis will be given.
