Supplementation of vitamin E or a botanical extract as antioxidants to improve growth performance and health of growing pigs housed under thermoneutral or heat-stressed conditions

Background Heat stress has severe negative consequences on performance and health of pigs,leading to significant economic *** objective of this study was to investigate the effects of supplemental vitamin E and a botanical extract in feed or drinking water on growth performance,intestinal health,and oxidative and immune status in grow-ing pigs housed under heat stress *** Duplicate experiments were conducted,each using 64 crossbred pigs with an initial body weight of 50.7±3.8 and 43.9±3.6 kg and age of 13-week and 12-week,***(n=128)were housed individually and assigned within weight blocks and sex to a 2×4 factorial arrangement consisting of 2 environments(thermo-neutral(21.2℃)or heat-stressed(30.9℃))and 4 supplementation treatments(control diet;control+100 IU/l of D-α-tocopherol in water;control+200 IU/kg of Dl-α-tocopheryl-acetate in feed;or control+400 mg/kg of a botanical extract in feed).Results Heat stress for 28 d reduced(P≤0.001)final body weight,average daily gain,and average daily feed intake(-7.4 kg,-26.7%,and-25.4%,respectively)but no effects of supplementation were detected(P>0.05).Serum vitamin E increased(Plementation in water and in feed(1.64 vs.3.59 and 1.64 vs.3.24),but not for the botanical extract(1.64 vs.1.67 mg/kg)and was greater when supplemented in water ***(P=0.002).liver vitamin E increased(Plementations in water(3.9 vs.31.8)and feed(3.9 vs.18.0),but not with the botanical extract(3.9 vs.4.9 mg/kg).Serum malondialdehyde was reduced with heat stress on d 2,but increased on d 28(interaction,Plementation compared to *** proliferation was reduced(P=0.037)in the jejunum under heat stress,but increased in the ileum when vitamin E was supplemented in feed and water under heat stress(interaction,P=0.04).Tumor necrosis factor-αin jejunum and ileum mucosa decreased by heat stress(P<0.05)and was re

Emerging evidence and perspectives have pointed towards the heart playing an important role in hepatorenal syndrome(HRS),outside of conventional understanding that liver cirrhosis is traditionally considered the sole origin of a cascade of pathophysiological mechanisms directly affecting the kidneys in this *** the absence of established heart disease,cirrhotic cardiomyopathy may occur more frequently in those with liver cirrhosis and kidney *** is a specific form of cardiac dysfunction characterized by blunted contractile responsiveness to stress stimuli and altered diastolic relaxation with electrophysiological *** the clinical description of these potential cardiac-related complications of the liver,the role of the heart has traditionally been an overlooked aspect of circulatory dysfunction in *** from a physiological sense,temporality(prior onset)of cardiorenal interactions in HRS and positive effects stemming from portosystemic shunting demonstrated an important role of the heart in the development and progression of kidney dysfunction in cirrhotic *** this review,we discuss current concepts surrounding how the heart may influence the development and progression of HRS,and the role of systemic inflammation and endothelial dysfunction causing circulatory dysfunction within this *** temporality of heart and kidney dysfunction in HRS will be *** a subgroup of patients who receive portosystemic shunting,the dynamics of cardiorenal interactions following treatment is *** research to determine the unknowns in this topic is anticipated,hopefully to further clarify the intricacies surrounding the liver-heart-kidney connection and improve strategies for management.

Due to growing social acceptance,there has been an increasing number of gender-affirmation surgeries performed in North *** research in this patient population focuses on surgical outcomes and advancing ***,little work has been done to study functional *** better evaluate urinary dysfunction in the postphalloplasty trans men patient population,our group developed a novel patient-reported outcome instrument-the postphalloplasty urinary function test(PP UFT)and protocol to measure postvoid urethral volume(PVUR),and we present our preliminary *** conducted a cross-sectional pilot study in a cohort of 15 adult trans men who had undergone phalloplasty with urethral lengthening surgery between 2018 and *** had stable urinary function via the neophallus at the time of *** filled out the PP UFT and were asked to record their PVUR as per our *** average PP UFT score was 8.9 out of 40 and the average quality-of-life(QOl)score was *** dribbling constituted the major complaint and on average comprised 63.2%of the reported PP UFT *** average PVUR was 2.2 ml(range:0.5-5.6 ml).There was a positive correlation between higher PP UFT and worse-reported quality of life(Ple urology have limitations for accurately capturing urinary dysfunction in this specific patient *** combination of PP UFT and PVUR measurement offers potential for quantifying urinary function and quality of life in patients who undergo *** studies will validate these instruments.

针对654SMO超级奥氏体不锈钢的热变形行为进行研究,采用Arrhenius模型与粒子群算法优化的BP神经网络模型(PSO-BP神经网络)对654SMO超级奥氏体不锈钢热变形行为进行预测,将其结果进行对比获得最优模型。通过实验获得变形温度在1 000~1 200℃、应变速率为0.1~10 s^(-1)条件下的真应力,并采用考虑应变修正的Arrhenius模型和PSO-BP神经网络模型对实验数据进行训练,通过计算均方相关系数(R^(2))、均方根误差(RMSE)和平均相对误差(AARE),对预测结果量化并且进行比较。最后基于实验实测数据和PSO-BP模型的预测数据得到应变为0.3和0.6的热加工图。结果表明:相比于传统的Arrhenius模型,PSO-BP神经网络模型具有更高的准确性和适用性,为654SMO的热加工工艺提供理论指导。

Genetic variation and superior provenances selection for wood properties of larix olgensis at four trials

larix olgensis,one of the most important timber species in northeastern China,is used for paper making and *** this study,10 wood properties(wood density,fiber length,fiber width,fiber length-to width ratio,hemicellulose content,cellulose content,holocellulose content,lignin content,ash content,and carbon content)of 10 provenances of *** planted at sites of CuoHai(CH),JiaGeDaQi(JGDQ),liangShui(lS),and Mao'erShan(MES)were *** results of ANOVA showed that almost traits differed significantly among locations and provenances,with a significant interaction *** trait also differed significant among provenances within *** phenotypic and genetic coefficient of variation(PCV and GCV)and provenance heritability(H 2)for wood properties ranged from 1.122 to 27.365%,from 0.564%to 21.113%and from 0.332 to 0.996,respectively.A correlation analysis showed that wood density was significantly negatively correlated with cellulose content and holocellulose content at sites CH,JGDQ,and lS,but were significantly positively correlated at site *** density was significantly negatively correlated with lignin content at CH and JGDQ,but not at lS and *** width(FW)was negatively correlated with the ratio of fiber length(Fl)to width across sites,and FW and Fl/W were all positively correlated with *** content was significantly positively correlated with hemicellulose content at site JGDQ and significantly negatively correlated with cellulose content and with holocellulose content at site ***,carbon content was positively correlated with cellulose content and holocellulose content at CH,but negatively correlated with these two traits at site *** a correlation analysis of wood properties with geographic,soil and climatic characteristics at the four sites,wood properties were mainly correlated with latitude and altitude of the site and affected by the average annual precipitation and temperature *** select supe

Controlling hydrogen sulfide(H2S)odors and emissions using a single,effective treatment across a town-scale sewer network is a challenge faced by many water *** of a sewer diversion provided the opportunity to compare the effectiveness of magnesium hydroxide(Mg(OH)2)and two biological dosing compounds(Bioproducts A and B),with different modes of action(MOA),in a field-test across a large sewer ***(OH)2 increases sewer p H allowing suppression of H2S release into the sewer environment while Bioproduct A acts to disrupt microbial communication through quorum sensing(QS),reducing biofilm *** B reduces H2S odors by scouring the sewer of fats,oils and grease(FOGs),which provide adhesion points for the microbial *** revealed that only Mg(OH)2 altered the microbial community structure and reduced H2S emissions in a live sewer system,whilst Bioproducts A and B did not reduce H2S emissions or have an observable effect on the composition of the microbial community at the dosed *** results recommend in situ testing of dosing treatments before implementation across an operational system.
