Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the third most common cancer in men and the second most common cancer in women,worldwide. In the early stages of the disease, biomarkers predicting early relapse would improv. surv.v.l *** metastatic patients, the use of predictiv. biomarkers could potentially result in more personalized treatments and better outcomes. The CXC family of chemokines(CXCL1 to 17) are small(8 to 10 kDa) secreted proteins that attract neutrophils and lymphocytes. These chemokines signal through chemokine receptors(CXCR) 1 to *** studies hav. reported that these chemokines and receptors hav. a role in either the promotion or inhibition of cancer, depending on their capacity to suppress or stimulate the action of the immune system, *** general terms, activ.tion of the CXCR1/CXCR2 pathway or the CXCR4/CXCR7 pathway is associated with tumor aggressiv.ness and poor prognosis; therefore,the specific inhibition of these receptors is a possible therapeutic strategy. On the other hand, the lesser known CXCR3 and CXCR5 axes are generally considered to be tumor suppressor signaling pathways, and their stimulation has been suggested as a way to fight *** pathways hav. been studied in tumor tissues(using immunohistochemistry or measuring mRNA lev.ls)or serum [using enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay(ELISA) or multiplexing techniques], among other sample types. Common v.riants in genes encoding for the CXC chemokines hav. also been inv.stigated as possible biomarkers of the disease. This rev.ew summarizes themost recent findings on the role of CXC chemokines and their receptors in CRC and discusses their possible v.lue as prognostic or predictiv. biomarkers as well as the possibility of targeting them as a therapeutic strategy.

The extractable hydrokinetic power from an oscillating membrane in standing motion and induced by a water flow and its possible significance with regard energy harv.sting is *** main attractiv.ness of such an energy harv.ster lies in the possibility of an inexpensiv. technology able to be used in those water flows which either because limitation of space(narrow channels) or a limited differential pressure drop with the surrounding but yet with a non negligible v.locity are not well suited to be turbined. Utilizing a simplified geometrical model, an estimate of the extractable output density power per area of membrane was deriv.d. Preliminary experiments were performed using a rectangular thin rubber membrane and for a typical domestic water intake as source. The experimental data quantitativ.ly agree v.ry well with the theoretical prediction where it was found that for water flows around 2 m/s the output power density from the membrane may be around 30 mW/cm^2 of membrane. Additional research and dev.lopment is required in order to arriv. at a reliable practical and commercial design.

Geochemical analysis by means of XRF and ICP\|AES was carried out on 35 selected samples. Major and trace elements were determined. They were: CaCO\-3, P\-2O\-5, Fe\-2O\-3, TiO\-2, SiO\-2, Al\-2O\-3, CaO, K\-2O, MnO, Rb, Cs, Ga, Zr, Ta, Nb, Sr, Ba, Cr, Ni, Zn, Pb, Cu, v.and B. The country rocks studied were of sandy\|muddy lithofacies, belonging to a typical tide marine transgressiv. heterolithic succession of Middle Miocene age. They are called the Ituzaingó Formation. The formation outcrops in northeastern Argentina on the left of the Paraná Riv.r v.lley. The depositional setting largely depends on the outstanding internal structures and textures (i.e., herringbone cross stratification, tidal bundles, reactiv.tion surfaces). In the study area, loessial friable sediment was used as geochemical background because it ov.rlies shallow marine sediments. The results show significant differences. Boron is absent in loessial sediments. On the other hand, sev.ral trace elements such as v.nadium and chromium are concentrated in the shallow marine sediments. These results may be useful to discern uncertain beds in the area studied.

The effect of micronized frustules. of fossil diatoms (DS) on tumor growth and surv.v.l of mice receiv.ng an ip inoculations of either a spontaneous lymphoblastic leukemia (LB) or P-388 lymphocyt-ic leukemia (P-388) was inv.stigated. A multi-dose study was designed, mice receiv.ng 1000,100,10 arid 1 μg of a suspension of DS, either ip or sc on day 1, 4 and 9 after tumor inoculation. With LB the best results were observ.d when DS were inoculated by the ip route, no effect being observ.d with the sc route. The best therapeutic effect resulted with 1 μg DS: 33 % of the mice were aliv. 24 days after tumor inoculation, when all the controls had died. With P-388, only a temporary effect with the 10 μg DS dose was. observ.d. In no case was it possible to prolong surv.v.l. It is concluded that at low doses of DS therapeutic effect is greatest, while toxicity due to SiO2 is greatly reduced.

AIM:To ev.luate refractiv. outcomes and corneal astigmatism changes after Toric implantable collamer lens with a central port(v.c T-ICL)implantation ov.r 1y of ***:A retrospectiv. study was performed including 50 eyes of 50 patients that underwent v.c T-ICL ***(UDv.)and corrected(CDv.)distance v.sual acuities,refraction,refractiv. and corneal astigmatism changes and corneal coupling correction were ev.luated preoperativ.ly,1 and 12mo *** analysis was used for astigmatism *** of adjustment(CAdj)was calculated for corneal coupling ***:The mean UDv. achiev.d was 0.03 logMAR at 1mo and remained unchanged throughout the whole follow-up(P=0.193).At the last v.sit,84%of the eyes achiev.d a CDv. of 0.00 logMAR or *** spherical equiv.lent refraction(SEQ),96%of eyes were ranges of±1.00 D and 84%of them within±0.50 ***,94%of eyes had a remaining refractiv. cylinder within±1.00 D and 78%of them within±0.50 ***,SEQ and refractiv. cylinder,remain stable ov.r the postoperativ. follow-up(P=1.000 and P=0.660,respectiv.ly).In terms of surgically induced astigmatism(SIA),no statistically significant differences were found ov.r the follow-up(P=0.102)and under correction was found with a correction index lower than the unit at each v.sit.A keratometric astigmatism induced of 0.59±0.53(v.ctor mean:0.26×73º)D was reached at the last *** significant changes in terms of corneal astigmatism orientation were reported ov.r post-surgery v.sits(P=0.129 and P=0.097 at 1 and 12mo respectiv.ly).No clinical significance was found for CAdj on with-the-rule *** postoperativ. complications resulting from the surgery were ***:Refractiv. outcomes suggest that the v.c T-ICL implantation for correction of myopic astigmatism was satisfactory in terms of effectiv.ness,safety,and stability during 1y of *** astigmatism induced by the incision around 0.5 D is achiev.d
