Earwig mothers consume the feces of their juveniles during family life

Many animals consume the feces of their *** allo-coprophagy can have benefits,such as access to nutrien.s.and symbion.s.but also risks for consumers,mainly due to direct contact with pathogens that develop on *** the European earwig Forficula auricularia,mothers and juveniles live in n.s.s lined with their *** surprising habit allows juveniles to consume the feces of their siblin.s.during family life and provides them with nutritional benefits when mothers provide low ***,it was unclear whether earwig mothers also practice allo-coprophagy,and whether this behavior is motivated by their nutritional ***,we set up four types of experimental families in which we manipulated the nutritional needs of mothers and/or juveniles and measured the effects on the production of feces by the juveniles,and the consumption of these feces by the *** results first show that fed juveniles produced more feces pellet in presence of fed compared to food-deprived *** also found that,overall,about 50%of the mothers consumed juveniles *** consumption was both more likely and larger when the feces were produced by fed compared to food-deprived juveniles,while the proportion of feces pellets eaten was larger in food-deprived compared to fed ***,our results reveal that allo-coprophagy involves every family member and suggest that it can have both nutritional and non-nutritional benefits for earwig ***-coprophagy could thus favor the maintenance of mothers in the n.s. and,more generally,promote the early evolution of family life.

Background:The Iberian Peninsula comprises one of the largest boundaries between Mediterranean and Eurosiberian vegetation,known as sub-Mediterranean *** ecotone hosts many unique plant species and communities and constitutes the low-latitude(warm)margin of numerous central European.s.ecies which co-occur with Mediterranean *** of the main.s.ecies found in this region are the Eurosiberian European beech(Fagus sylvatica L.)and the Mediterranean Pyrenean oak(Quercus pyrenaica Willd.).It remains unclear how the different physiological and adaptive strategies of these two species reflect their niche partitioning within a subMediterranean community and to what extent phenotypic variation(intraspecific variability)is driving niche partitioning across Eurosiberian and Mediterranean ***:We quantified functional niche partitioning,based on the n-dimensional hypervolume to nine traits related to resource acquisition.s.rategies(leaf,stem and root)plus relative growth rate as an additional wholeplant trait,and the environmental niche similarity between Pyrenean oak and European ***,we analyzed the degree of phenotypic variation of both target species and its relationship with relative growth rates(RGR)and environmental *** recruitment was measured for both target species as a proxy for the average ***:species’functional space was highly segregated(13.09%overlap),mainly due to differences in niche breadth(59.7%)rather than niche replacement(25.6%),and beech showed higher trait variability,i.e.,had larger functional ***,both species shared the environmental space,i.e.,environmental niches were *** plant traits were not related to abiotic variables or RGR,neither did RGR to plant ***:Both target species share similar environmental space,however,show notably different functional resource-use strategies,promoting a high complementarity that contributes to maintaining a high functiona

Growth stratification Applied to Progn.s.s of Diametric structure in araucaria Forest

The forest management, in broad terms, covers a set of information and activities related to the growth and production of plantations or from heterogeneous forests. If on one hand forest plantation presen.s.homogeneous dendrometric characteristics, on the other hand in heterogeneous forests such a configuration does not exist, which requires the application of essential mathematical estimates for the forest management planning, for example, the progn.s.s of diametric structure. In this respect, refinemen.s.can be tested in traditionally used mathematical models, aiming at more accurate results. These facts substantiate the following hypotheses: the stratification of the diameter incremen.s.can provide estimates with greater accuracy and more precise results for the progn.s.s. With the stratification of diameter increment made it possible to get better results for the progn.s.s for a 4-year period, allowing the forest manager to better work with estimators either for diameter classes as well as for the forest to be managed. Using the data structure of trees (DBH ≥ 9.5 cm) of the national Forest of sao Francisco de Paula, Rs, Brazil, the diameter increment of species was stratified into four statistically different strata. Using data sampled between the years of 2000 to 2004, it was carried out progn.s.s for the year 2008, using the stratified and not stratified data. The estimates were compared with the observed values by the Kolmogorov-smirnov (K-s) test, which attested goodn.s. of fit only for the estimates from the stratified values. The progn.s.s estimated by means of stratified values also showed more accurate results, because the stratified variance was reduced nine times when compared with that obtained with the progn.s.s made without stratified data and to determine the Quotient of de Liocourt. Thus, the diameter growth stratification indicated to be effective to generate more accurate progn.s.s.

Gastric cancer remains one of the most lethal *** incidence and mortality rates are quite *** main reason for the high mortality is diagn.s.s at advanced stages of disease,when treatment options are *** of the supposed strategies to overcome late-stage diagn.s.s is identifying people at high risk with the aim of establishing rigorous clinical control,including routine endoscopy and *** gastric cancer(HGC)syndromes,though representing a sizeable group to monitor for prevention or,at least,for early diagn.s.s,are apparently extremely *** low rate of HGC diagn.s.s might be related to the low rates of suspicion,insufficient familiarity about clinical diagn.s.s criteria,and the supposed conditional necessity of a molecular *** this review,we will discuss simple measures to increase HGC diagn.s.s by applying three rules that might provide an opportunity for precision care to benefit the families affected by this disease.

The Colider and Roosevelt olcanic rocks (sw amazonian craton): geochemistry and sm-nd isotope characteristics of a silicic large igneous province
