A Religio-Political Discourse： The Decalogue in the Large Catechism of Martin Luther

The Jew.sh Decalogue has not only been depicted in the Qur＇an of the Middle Ages, but also w.s transmitted into the early modem era. The teaching of the Decalogue w.s one of the major biblical sources the 16th century reformist people adopted to defend their new.religious movement against the Medieval Catholic tradition. In particular, w.en Martin Luther led a new.protestant church, he w.ote a clear commentary of the new.faith in the form of tw. catechisms in 1529. The Small Catechism w.s for training of children. The Large Catechism w.s an institutional manual for pastors or teachers. The German reformer independently applied the Exodus version （20：17） of the Decalogue in the Large Catechism. Then, how.did Luther use the Decalogue in the light of his reformation campaign？ How.has his metaphorical discourse been revealed on the Decalogue？ This paper explores the textual genre and historical context of the Reformation teaching in unveiling Luther＇s religio-political intention over the authority and pow.r of the traditional papacy.

A numerical model w.s used to analyze the motion response and mooring tension of a submerged fish reef system. The system included a net attached to a rigid structure suspended up from the bottom w.th a single, high tension mooring by fixed flotation. The analysis w.s performed by using a Morison equation type finite element model configured w.th truss elements. Input forcing parameters into the model consisted of both regular and irregular w.ves, w.th and w.thout a steady current. Heave, surge and pitch dynamic calculations of the reef structure w.re made. Tension response results of the attached mooring line w.re also computed. Results w.re analyzed in both the time and frequency domain in w.ich appropriate, linear transfer functions w.re calculated. The influence of the current w.s more evident in the tension and heave motion response data. This is most likely the result of the large buoyancy characteristics of the reef structure and the length of the mooting cable. Maximum mooting component tension w.s found to be 13.9 kN and occurred w.en the reef w.s subjected to irregular w.ves w.th a co-linear current of 1.0 m/s velocity. The results also show.d that the system had little damping （in heave） w.th damped natural periods of 2.8 s. This combination of system characteristics promotes a possible resonating situation in typical open sea conditions w.th similar w.ve periods.

The pantograph and its recess on the train roof are major aerodynamic noise sources on high-speed *** this noise is particularly important because conventional noise barriers usually do not shield the ***,less attention has been paid to the pantograph recess compared w.th the *** this paper,the flow.features and noise contribution of tw. types of noise reduction treatments rounded and chamfered edges are studied for a simplified high-speed train pantograph recess,w.ich is represented as a rectangular cavity and numerically investigated at 1/10 *** delayed detached-eddy simulations are performed for the near-field turbulent flow.simulation,and the Ffow.s w.lliams and Haw.ings aeroacoustic analogy is used for far-field noise *** highly unsteady flow.over the cavity is significantly reduced by the cavity edge modifications,and consequently,the noise radiated from the cavity is ***,effects of the rounded cavity edges on the flow.and noise of the pantographs(one raised and one folded)are investigated by comparing the flow.features and noise contributions from the cases w.th and w.thout rounding of the cavity *** train running directions are also *** analysis show. that the highly unsteady flow.w.thin the cavity is reduced by rounding the cavity edges and a slightly low.r flow.speed occurs around the upper parts of the raised pantograph,w.ereas the flow.velocity in the cavity is slightly increased by the *** pressure fluctuations occur on the folded pantograph and the low.r parts of the raised pantograph,w.ereas w.aker fluctuations are found on the panhead of the raised *** study show. that by rounding the cavity edges,a reduction in radiated noise at the side and the top receiver positions can be *** reductions in the other directions can also be found.

Floods are among the most frequent and devastating natural hazards and disasters in many southern states in the United *** study examined the relationship and reciprocal predictability betw.en tw. theoretical constructs-risk perception attitude(RPA)and informationseeking efficacy(ISE)——in regard to pluvial *** addition,this study extended these theoretical constructs to investigate differences in RPA and ISE among potential audience segments,providing practitioners w.th applicable insights for designing effective flood prevention and risk management *** of data from 716 residents in south Louisiana revealed a statistically strong relationship betw.en RPA and *** research also identified specific audience segments that w.uld benefit from an increase in RPA and ISE concerning *** meaningful findings infonn a discussion of the theoretical and practical implications of the relationship betw.en RPA and ISE and guide future disaster preparation campaigns and policies.

In this study,w. attempt to improve the electromechanical performance of ionic polymer–metal composites(IPMCs)by developing high surface area Pd-Pt electrodes and tailoring the ionomer membrane *** proper electroless plating techniques,a high dispersion of palladium particles is achieved deep in the ionomer membrane,thereby increasing notably the interfacial surface area of *** membrane thickness is increased using 0.5 and 1 mm thick ionomer *** comparison,IPMCs w.th the same ionomer membranes,but conventional Pt electrodes,are also prepared and *** electromechanical,mechanoelectrical,electrochemical and mechanical properties of different IPMCs are characterized and *** electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray(SEM-EDS)is used to investigate the distribution of deposited electrode metals in the cross section of Pd-Pt *** experiments demonstrate that IPMCs assembled w.th millimeter thick ionomer membranes and new.y developed Pd-Pt electrodes are superior in mechanoelectrical transduction,and show.significantly higher blocking force compared to conventional type of *** blocking forces of more than 0.3 N w.re measured at 4V DC input,exceeding the force output of typical Nafion®117-based Pt IPMCs more than tw. orders of *** new.y designed Pd-Pt IPMCs can be useful in more demanding applications,e.g.,in biomimetic underw.ter robotics,w.ere high stress and drag forces are encountered.

The use of sanctions to coerce Pyongyang into abandoning its nuclear w.apons and related programs is not w.rking. North Korea continues to survive and expands its nuclear and missile capabilities. It is time for the US to construct a more successful North Korea strategy by applying a smart pow.r strategy before the North Koreans can operationalize their nuclear ICBMs w.thin the next several years. If and w.en that occurs, the US w.ll inevitably consider the use of force to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue, but that w.ll be too costly for the US and its allies. w.shington must do all it can to avoid another w.r on the Asian mainland. The only practical uses of force are as defensive and enhanced deterrence measures to protect the US and its allies against North Korean nuclear and conventional provocations. Instead, the US should call for an immediate freeze of North Korea＇s nuclear and missile programs and demonstrate its w.llingness to co-exist w.th Pyongyang, Only by accepting co-existence w.th Pyongyang, w.shington has an opportunity to persuade Beijing and Moscow.to join its efforts w.th Seoul and Tokyo to denuclearize North Korea. It is time to engage North Korea by accepting it as it is and exercising strategic patience of a different kind to achieve US aims.

A jig w.s developed for generating a shear w.ve. A pyramid w.th an isosceles triangle w.th tw. 45o w.s made of aluminum to generate shear w.ves using tw. longitudinal transducers based on ultrasonic-polarized mechanism. Also, the signal splitter w.s connected to the pulser jack on the pulser/receiver and to the longitudinal transducers. Therefore, an experimental w.y w.s performed in order to make shear w.ve on the bottom of aluminum alloyed pyramid. Also, a jig w.s manufactured and developed for generating a shear w.ve based on the computer numerical simulation. It is found that the experimentally shear w.ve variation of new.y-designed jig is consistent w.th computer numerical simulation results and shear w.ve ultrasonic application can be very useful to detect the defects in CFRP composites.

Bottom-up synthesis of semiconductor nanow.res(Nw.)by the vapor-liquid-solid(VLS)mechanism has enabled diverse technological applications for these *** metallic Nw.,how.ver,it has been challenging to form large-area interconnected Nw.***,w. generate centimeter-scale meshes of mechanically and electrically interconnected Si Nw. by sequentially grow.ng,collapsing,and joining the Nw. using a capillarity-driven w.lding *** fabricate meshes from VLS-grow. Nw. ranging in diameter from 20 to 100 nm and find that the meshes are three-dimensional w.th a thickness ranging from^1 to^10 microns depending on the Nw.*** extinction measurements reveal that the netw.rks are semi-transparent w.th a color that depends on the absorption and scattering characteristics of individual ***,active voltage contrast imaging of both centimeter-and micron-scale meshes reveals w.despread electrical *** a sacrificial layer,w. demonstrate that the mesh can be liberated from the grow.h substrate,yielding a highly flexible and transparent *** transport measurements both on the grow.h substrate and on liberated,flexible films reveal electrical conduction across a centimeter scale w.th a sheet resistance of^160-180 kΩ/square that does not change significantly upon *** the ability to encode complex functionality in semiconductor Nw. through the VLS process,w. believe these meshes of netw.rked Nw. could find application as neuromorphic memory,electrode scaffolds,and bioelectronic interfaces.

Fabrication of modem multi-crystalline silicon solar cells involves multiple processes that are thermally intensive. These include emitter diffusion, thermal oxida- tion and firing of the metal contacts. This paper illustrates the variation and potential effects upon recombination in the w.fers due to these thermal processes. The use of light emitter diffusions more compatible w.th selective emitter designs had a more detrimental effect on the bulk lifetime of the silicon than that of heavier diffusions compatible w.th a homogenous emitter design and screen-printed contacts. This w.s primarily due to a reduced effectiveness of gettering for the light emitter. This reduction in lifetime could be mitigated through the use of a dedicated gettering process applied before emitter diffusion. Thermal oxida- tions could greatly improve surface passivation in the intra- grain regions, w.th the higher temperatures yielding the highest quality surface passivation. How.ver, the higher temperatures also led to an increase in bulk recombination either due to a reduced effectiveness of gettering, or due to the presence of a thicker oxide layer, w.ich may interrupt hydrogen passivation. The effects of fast firing w.re separated into thermal effects and hydrogenation effects. w.ile hydrogen can passivate defects hence improving the performance, thermal effects during fast firing can dissolve precipitating impurities such as iron or de-getter impurities hence low.r the performance, leading to a poisoning of the intra-grain regions.
