Protein phosphorylation is a well-established post-translational mechanism that regulates protein functions and metabolic *** is known that several plant mitochondrial proteins are phosphorylated in a reversible ***,the identities of the protein kinases/phosphatases involved in this mech-anism and their roles in the regulation of the tricarboxylic acid(TCA)cycle remain *** this study,we isolated and characterized plants lacking two mitochondrially targeted phosphatases(Sal2 and PP2c63)along with pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase(PDK),Protein-protein interaction analysis,quantitative phos-phoproteomics,and enzymatic analyses revealed that PDK specifically regulates pyruvate dehydrogenase complex(PDC),while PP2c63 nonspecifically regulates *** recombinant PP2c63 and Sal2 proteins were added to mitochondria isolated from mutant plants,protein-protein interaction and enzymatic analyses showed that PP2c63 directly phosphorylates and modulates the activity of PDC,while Sal2 only indirectly affects TCA cycle *** of steady-state metabolite levels and fluxes in the mutant lines further revealed that these phosphatases regulate flux through the TCA cycle,and that altered metabolism in the sa/2 pp2c63 double mutant compromises plant *** results are discussed in the context of current models of the control of respiration in plants.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is an economically devastating disease with worldwide distribution caused by Betaarterivirus suid (PRRSV). The virion has great genetic and antigenic variability with a marked increase in virulence. Vaccines tested to date have been of little use in controlling the problems caused by PRRSV, so the present study was conceived to evaluate the antiviral effect of polymeric nanoparticles (PNPs) made with glycyrrhizic acid (GA). Recent work has proven that this nanoparticle system is stable. These nanoparticles have good GA carrying capacity, a size < 250 nm, a spherical morphology, and a wide safety range. The integrity of cell morphology can be maintained for up to 72 h. The antiviral effect of this nanoparticle system was tested in cultures of MARC-145 cells in pre- and coinfection assays with PRRSV to evaluate changes in cell morphology and effects on cell viability. The use of PNPsGA with the real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) decreased viral infection by 38% in 3 amplification cycles. These results suggest that this system has an antiviral effect against PRRSV under the study conditions established.

In order to take advantage of the lignocellulosic material in water hyacinth （Eichhornia crassipes）, dehydration pretreatment in the first step and then sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide pretreatment was performed. The microorganism used for the fermentation process was Zimomonas mobilis. Batch fermentation experiments were carried out with four tests using 22 factorial design with two levels leadings to evaluate the effect of NaOH concentration, conditioning salts as independent variables and ethanol produced as a dependent variable. The optimum condition with higher amount of glucose hydrolyzed and ethanol was： substrate conditioning cellulases, it was pretreated 10% NaOH, with 92.38% conversion of glucose to ethanol and yield of 0.47 g ethanol per g of glucose and 0.018 g ethanol per g of biomass.

Numerical Analysis and Design of an EMF Birdcage Wearable Device for the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease: A Feasibility Study

In this study, we performed a numerical analysis of a novel EMF Birdcage wearable device for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). We designed the new device to generate and radiate a frequency of 64 MHz and a specific absorption rate (SAR) of 0.6 W/kg to a simulated human brain tissue. We determined these parameters from our experimental studies on primary human brain cultures at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). We found that this frequency and SAR decreased the toxic Aβ levels in the cell cultures. The frequency of 64 MHZ has good skin depth penetration, which will easily pass through the various head layers, including hair, skin, fat, dura, the cerebrospinal (CSF), and grey matter, and reach deeply into the brain tissues. The SAR of 0.6 W/kg was achieved with lower power input and energy, decreasing the probability of thermal injury. Therefore, these parameters enhance the safety of these potential treatments. This Birdcage device emulates a small-scale MRI machine, producing the same 64 MHz frequency at much lower operating input power. In this work, we utilized a high-frequency simulation system (HFSS/EMPro) software to produce the birdcage structure for the required EMF parameters. The 64 MHz radiating frequency produced the scattering S11 parameter of −15 dbs. We obtained a SAR of 0.6 W/kg when an input power of 100 W was applied. The coil dimensions were found to be near 15 cm in height and 22 cm in diameter, which fits in wearable systems. We found that the distribution of the electric field and SAR radiate homogeneously over the simulated human head with good penetration into the brain, which proves to be an appropriate potential therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer’s disease.

Precocity in tilapia implies the use of several methods of obtaining monosex seed;the most common tends to use masculinizing hormone 17α-methyltestosterone(17αMT),with variable *** the objective of this study was to compare the efficiency of the sexual reversion process using 17αMT,in a recirculation system and in *** a totally randomized design,three tanks for recirculation(T-RAS)and three tanks for biofloc(T-BIO)with a capacity of 200 L effective volume were taken and filled with 1,056 larvae of Oreochromis sp.,without reversing and with an initial weight of 0.02 g and an initial total length of 1.4 *** study was carried out during 65 d,the fish were fed(10%biomass,adjusted every 15 d)by a commercial diet at 45%of crude protein that included 17αMT(60 mg/kg).Water quality,microbiology,zootechnical and gonadal analysis were *** the water quality results showed that just dissolved oxygen(DO),temperature(T-°C)and alkalinity did not show significant ***,in the productive parameters there were significant differences in the final length,the gain in length and in K which were better in *** microbiological ones did not present significant differences between the ***,the percentage of reversion was significantly better in ***,this study suggests that settleable solids concentrations above 35 cm decrease the efficiency of the sexual reversion for this species.
