This paper describes the operation and outcome of one of the United Kingdom＇s largest multi-partner research activities in nanoparticles. The research covers the discovery and development of organic and inorganic crystals/nanoparticles, nanoparticle properties towards specific product applications. The research also encompassed bespoke measurement technology for nanoparticles and structure interactions. Significant research outcomes are summarised. The paper illustrates the advantages from industrially motivated research and value of collective action between a broad group of researchers in a nation.

Concern has been raised about the ethics and risks of performing genetic interventions in macaque monkeys to study models of human neuropsychiatric conditions. Here I point out that,when the outcome of some situations is truly uncertain, human decision makers tend to evaluate these situations inconsistently. The consequences of this inconsistency are sometimes profound, as they lead policy makers and reviewers to ignore or discount the ethical costs of doing nothing. A detailed computational investigation,based on density functional theory,of the interaction of polyani-line(PANI)and graphene nanoribbons(GNRs)with SrTiO_(3) is *** adsorption of PANI in var-ious oxidation states and co-adsorption with GNRs is found to be thermodynamically ***-sorbed PANI introduces N and C 2p states into the SrTiO_(3) bandgap,while co-adsorption of PANI and GNRs leads to a bridging of the gap and semi-metallic behaviour,thus rendering the electrical properties highly sensitive to the loading of the GNRs/PANI in the *** the lattice dynamics of the composites predicts a 68-88%reduction in the lattice thermal conductivity due to reduced phonon group *** together,these findings provide insight into the growing number of experimental studies highlighting the enhanced thermoelectric performance of oxide-polymer composites and indicate co-adsorption with graphene as a facile direction for future research.

Seaweeds are macroalgae,which can be of many different morphologies,sizes,colors,and chemical *** include brown,red,and green *** seaweeds have been more investigated and exploited in comparison to other seaweed types for their use in animal feeding studies due to their large sizes and ease of *** in vitro and in vivo studies suggest that plant secondary compound-containing seaweeds(e.g.,halogenated compounds,phlorotannins,etc.)have the potential to mitigate enteric methane(CH_(4))emissions from ruminants when added to the diets of beef and dairy *** seaweeds including Asparagopsis *** rich in crude protein and halogenated compounds compared to brown and green *** halogenated-containing red seaweeds are used as the active ingredient in ruminant diets,bromoform concentration can be used as an indicator of antimethanogenic ***-containing brown seaweed has also the potential to decrease CH_(4) ***,numerous studies examined the possible anti-methanogenic effects of marine seaweeds with inconsistent *** work reviews existing data associated with seaweeds and in vitro and in vivo rumen fermentation,animal performance,and enteric CH4 emissions in *** understanding of the seaweed supplementation related to rumen fermentation and its effect on animal performance and CH_(4) emissions in ruminants may lead to novel strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions while improving animal productivity.

We tested whether continuous cohabitation in monogamous voles affects the mated male＇s atten-tiveness to his breeding partner versus another female. Each male was housed in a 3-chamber ap-paratus with a Focal female （FF） and a Control female （CF） for 13 days then placed in a T-maze toassess his attentiveness to and memory of those females. The Distal male remained physically sep-arated from both females, but received their distal cues. The Separate male cohabited with the FFfor 3 days then remained physically separated from both females. The Disrupt male＇s continuouscohabitation with the FF was disrupted by having him physically separated from her after 10 daysand placed with the CF for the last 3 days. The Continuous male cohabited continuously with the FFfor 13 days. With females in the T-maze, the Separate and Disrupt males spent more time near theFF＇s box and the Disrupt males spent more time manipulating the FF＇s box than the CF＇s box. TheSeparate males groomed themselves more when near the FF＇s box than the CF＇s box. The Distaland Continuous males＇ attentiveness to the two females did not differ. Results suggest that phys-ical distance from the partner may reduce male＇s attentiveness toward other potential *** voles might be similar to socially monogamous primates in using tactile cues as a signal formaintaining their social bonds.

In the characterization of elastic properties of tissue using dynarmic optical coherence elasto-graphy,shear/surface waves are propagated and tracked in order to estimate speed and Y oung's ***,for dispersive tssues,the displacement pulse is highly damped and distorted during propagation,diminishing the ffectiveness of peak tracking approaches,and leading to biased cstimates of wave ***,plane wave propagation is sometimes assumed,which contributes to estimation ***,we invert a wave propagation model that incorpo-rates propagation,decay,and distortion of pulses in a dispersive media in order to accurately estimate its elastic and viscous *** model uses a general first-order approximation of dispersion,avoiding the use of any particular rheological model of *** are conducted in elastic and viscoelastic tissue mimicking phantoms by producing a Gaussian push using acoustic radiation force excitation and measuring the wave propagation using a Fourier domain optical coherence tomography *** confirmed the ffectiveness of the inversion method in est imat ing viscoelastic parameters in both the viscoelastic and elastic phantoms when compared to mechanical ***,the viscoelastic characterization of a fresh porcine comea was *** results validate this approach when compared to other methods.

Laboratory and industrial risers are equipped with exits of many different layouts, and numerous publications discuss the influence of riser exit geometry on local and overall solids hydrodynamics in the riser. The present paper reviews literature findings--mostly based upon indirect experimental techniques and often somewhat contradictory, Direct measurement of particle velocity and particle occupancy near and in the riser exit provide a better indication of the effect of riser exit geometry. Positron Emission Particle Tracking （PEPT） was used in this work for the first time to investigate the exit region of the riser, An abrupt or sharp exit causes particles to be knocked out of the gas flow, so forming a recirculation or reflux region in the upper part of the riser. This is much less pronounced with a curved or gradual exit.
