We demonstrate two distinct emerging terahertz （THz） biomedical imaging *** is based on the use of a new single frequency THz quantum cascade laser and the other is based on broadband THz time domain *** first method is employed to derive a metastasis lung tissue imaging at 3.7 THz with clear contrast between cancerous and healthy *** second approach is used to study an osseous tissue under several imaging modalities and achieve full THz spectroscopic imaging based on the frequency domain or on a fixed THz propagation *** contrast is achieved which facilitated the identification of regions with different cellular types and density compositions.

·AIM: To investigate whether decellularization using different techniques can reduce immunogenicity of the cornea, and to explore the decellularized cornea as a scaffold for cultured corneal endothelial cells(CECs).Transplantation of decellularized porcine corneas increases graft transparency and survival for longer periods compared with fresh grafts.·METHODS: Six-month-old wild-type pig corneas were cut into 100-200 μm thickness, and then decellularized by three different methods: 1) 0.1% sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS); 2) hypoxic nitrogen(N2); and 3) hypertonic NaCl. Thickness and transparency were assessed visually. Fresh and decellularized corneas were stained with hematoxylin/eosin(H&E), and for the presence of galactose-α1,3-galactose(Gal) and N-glycolylneuraminic acid(NeuGc, a nonGal antigen). Also, a human IgM/IgG binding assay was performed. Cultured porcine CECs were seeded on the surface of the decellularized cornea and examined after H&E staining.· RESULTS: All three methods of decellularization reduced the number of keratocytes in the stromal tissue by >80% while the collagen structure remained preserved. No remaining nuclei stained positive for Gal or NeuGc, and expression of these oligosaccharides on collagen was also greatly decreased compared to expression on fresh corneas. Human IgM/IgG binding to decellularized corneal tissue was considerably reduced compared to fresh corneal tissue. The cultured CECs formed a confluent monolayer on the surface of decellularized tissue.· CONCLUSION: Though incomplete, the significant reduction in the cellular component of the decellularized cornea should be associated with a significantly reduced in vivo immune response compared to fresh corneas.

Sympatric Chinese-wintering Eastern Tundra Bean Geese(Anser fabalis serrirostris,ETBG)breed in two widely separated Arctic areas(Central Russian Arctic and Anadyr region);South Korean-wintering birds(Chaun-South Korea)breed in a third discrete area between these *** winter/summer segregation likely structures the population,potentially resulting in distinct migration patterns and habitat-use throughout the annual *** tracked individuals using GPS-GSM transmitters from all three of these geographically discrete ETBG subpopulations to see whether this was the case,testing for differences in migration patterns,seasonal and diurnal habitat-use using remotely sensed land-cover *** migration distance of Central Arctic-China and Chaun-South Korea individuals did not differ significantly,but Anadyr-China birds travelled 15–24%further(mean:1140 km,P<0.001).Despite this,mean spring migration durations were longest among Central ArcticChina ETBG,significantly longer than Anadyr-China geese,due to significantly longer stopovers,which were significantly longer than Chaun-South Korea *** migration duration of Central Arctic-China and Chaun-South Korea individuals was significantly shorter than in spring,with fewer,shorter *** of significant differences in migration and stopover duration or numbers of stopovers between spring and autumn among Anadyr-China ETBG confirms this is a plastic trait,differing between subpopulations responding to prevailing *** patterns and habitat-use differed significantly between all three ETBG subpopulations,although all tended to use wetlands more at night and croplands more in daytime in winter,suggesting specific adaptations and responses to differing conditions encountered along their different migration *** untestable,we speculate that differences in habitat-use may affect fitness levels and genetic exchange between subpopulations,but based on our observations,conclude clear

We are reporting a case of fatal radiation pneumonitis that developed six months following chemoradiation for limited stage small cell lung *** patient was a 67-year-old man with a past medical history of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and remote suspicion for CREST,neither of which were active in the years leading up to *** received 6600 cG y delivered in 200 cG y daily fractions via intensity modulated radiation therapy with concurrent cisplatin/etoposide followed by additional chemotherapy with dosereduced cisplatin/etoposide and carboplatin/etoposide and then received prophylactic cranial *** subsequent months were notable for progressively worsening episodes of respiratory compromise despite administration of prolonged steroids and he ultimately *** demonstrated bilateral interstitial and airspace *** findings were consistent with pneumonitis secondary to chemoradiation as well as lymphangitic spread of small cell *** process was diffuse bilaterally although his radiation was delivered focally to the right lung and mediastinum.

The disease burden of diverticulitis is high across inpatient and outpatient settings,and the prevalence of diverticulitis has ***,patients with acute diverticulitis were admitted routinely for intravenous antibiotics and many had urgent surgery with colostomy or elective surgery after only a few *** recent studies have challenged the standards of how acute and recurrent diverticulitis are managed,and many clinical practice guidelines(CPGs)have pivoted to recommend outpatient management and individualized decisions about *** the rates of diverticulitis hospitalizations and operations are increasing in the United States,suggesting there is a disconnect from or delay in adoption of CPGs across the spectrum of diverticular *** this review,we propose approaching diverticulitis care from a population level to understand the gaps between contemporary studies and real-world practice and suggest strategies to implement and improve future care.

Background:Seven out of ten hornbill species in the Philippines are threatened with *** these is the endangered Visayan Hornbill(Penelopides panini),found on the islands of Panay and *** by habitat loss and hunting,its population size is thought to have declined from 1800 individuals 20 years ago to less than ***,a recent study on Negros estimated 3564 individuals across three core forest *** study aims to quantify the Visayan Hornbill population size in and around the Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park(NWPPNP)on Panay,the largest contiguous low-elevation forest landscape remaining across its range,and its broad habitat associations across a gradient of environmental ***:Hornbills were surveyed using 10-min distance sampling point counts(n=367)along transects(average length 1.1 km).Environmental variables were recorded along transects,while habitat was classified into primary forest,secondary forest,plantation,or open *** software was used to estimate population densities stratified by habitat,with the overall population estimate taken as a mean of habitat density estimates weighted by habitat *** generalized linear mixed models,hornbill occurrence was modelled using combinations of nine environmental variables as main and two-way fixed ***:Surveys covered 204.4 km^(2) of the 374.8 km^(2) Northwest Panay *** were not recorded in plantations or open *** density was significantly higher in primary forest(17.8 individuals/km~2±26.9%CV)than in secondary forest(3.7 individuals/km^(2)±33.2%CV;z=15.212,P<0.001).The overall population estimate for the NWPPNP and environs is 2109 individuals,and 2673 individuals for the entire Northwest Panay *** presence was best explained by a model including distance from the Park boundary alongside five interaction effects and transect as a random ***,and the interaction between distance
