The global financial crisis （GFC） has placed the creditworthiness of banks under intense scrutiny. In particular, capital adequacy has been called into question. Current capital requirements make no allowance for capital erosion caused by movements in the market value of assets. This paper examines default probabilities of Swiss banks under extreme conditions using structural modeling techniques. Conditional Value at risk （CVar） and Conditional Probability of Default （CPD） techniques are used to measure capital erosion. Significant increase in Probability of Default （PD） is found during the GFC period. The market asset value based approach indicates a much higher PD than external ratings indicate. Capital adequacy recommendations are formulated which distinguish between real and nominal capital based on asset fluctuations.

Scenario generations of cooling,heating,and power loads are of great significance for the economic operation and stability analysis of integrated energy *** this paper,a novel deep generative network is proposed to model cooling,heating,and power load curves based on generative moment matching networks(GMMNs)where an auto-encoder transforms highdimensional load curves into low-dimensional latent variables and the maximum mean discrepancy represents the similarity metrics between the generated samples and the real *** training the model,the new scenarios are generated by feeding Gaussian noises to the scenario generator of the *** the explicit density models,the proposed GMMN does not need to artificially assume the probability distribution of the load curves,which leads to stronger *** simulation results show that the GMMN not only fits the probability distribution of multiclass load curves very well,but also accurately captures the shape(e.g.,large peaks,fast ramps,and fluctuation),frequency-domain characteristics,and temporal-spatial correlations of cooling,heating,and power ***,the energy consumption of generated samples closely resembles that of real samples.

Polyploidy is pervasive in angiosperm evolution and plays important roles in adaptation and ***,polyploid groups are understudied due to complex sequence homology,challenging genome assembly,and taxonomic ***,we study adaptive divergence in taxonomically complex eyebrights(Euphrasia),where recent divergence,phenotypic plasticity,and hybridization blur species *** focus on three closely related tetraploid species with contrasting ecological preferences that are sympatric on Fair Isle,a small isolated island in the British *** a common garden experiment,we show a genetic component to the morphological differences present between these *** wholegenome sequencing and a novel k-mer approach we call“Tetmer”,we demonstrate that the species are of allopolyploid origin,with a sub-genome divergence of approximately 5%.Using2 million SNPs,we show sub-genome homology across species,with a very low sequence divergence characteristic of recent *** genetic variation is broadly structured by species,with clear divergence of Fair Isle heathland Euphrasia micrantha,while grassland Euphrasia arctica and coastal Euphrasia foulaensis are more closely ***,we show that tetraploid Euphrasia is a system of allopolyploids of postglacial species divergence,where adaptation to novel environments may be conferred by old variants rearranged into new genetic lineages.

The effects of bacterial strain, salinity and pH on the bioleaching of a complex ore using mesophilic and extremely thermophilic bacteria were investigated and the statistical analysis of the results was performed using ErGUN’s test. The extreme thermophiles were shown to display superior kinetics of dissolution of zinc compared with the mesophiles as confirmed by the statistical analysis. Bioleaching performance of the extreme thermophiles is found to improve in response to the increase in acidity (pH from 2.0 to 1.0) whilst the activity of the mesophiles is adversely affected by decreasing pH. Statistical analysis of the bioleaching data indicates that the effect of pH is insignificant in the range of pH 1.0-1.2 for the extreme thermophiles and pH 1.4-2.0 for the mesophiles. Salinity is shown to have a suppressing effect on the mesophiles. However, the extreme thermophiles appear to be halophilic in character as they could operate efficiently under saline conditions (1%-4%Cl- (w/v)).

This paper designed and implemented a blockchain-based multisignature approach to digitally transform supply chain governance in multi-tier food supply chains,particularly in a geographically dispersed beef supply *** exploratory case study was utilised to demonstrate the design,implementation,and evaluation of a blockchainbased multisignature approach that was deployed on the Smart Trade Networks(STN)Proof of Authority(PoA)blockchain system for data collection and validation in a beef supply chain *** multisignature approach was implemented with a use case to track a shipment of 92 cattle and meat products through key events from farm to food *** use-case deployment records approximately 6000 data points registered on the STN PoA blockchain *** real-case deployment illustrates the capability of the blockchain-based multisignature approach to digitally improve beef supply chain governance by enabling whole-of-chain transparency and trustworthy information sharing and supports supply chain professionals to have a better understanding of how to unlock blockchain potential for supply chain transformation.

Three model configurations are presented for multi-step time series predictions of the heat absorbed by thewater and steam in a thermal power plant. The models predict over horizons of 2, 4, and 6 steps into thefuture, where each step is a 5-minute increment. The evaluated models are a pure machine learning model, anovel hybrid machine learning and physics-based model, and the hybrid model with an incomplete dataset. Thehybrid model deconstructs the machine learning into individual boiler heat absorption units: economizer, waterwall, superheater, and reheater. Each configuration uses a gated recurrent unit (GrU) or a GrU-based encoder–decoder as the deep learning architecture. Mean squared error is used to evaluate the models compared totarget values. The encoder–decoder architecture is over 11% more accurate than the GrU only models. Thehybrid model with the incomplete dataset highlights the importance of the manipulated variables to the *** hybrid model, compared to the pure machine learning model, is over 10% more accurate on averageover 20 iterations of each model. Automatic differentiation is applied to the hybrid model to perform a localsensitivity analysis to identify the most impactful of the 72 manipulated variables on the heat absorbed in theboiler. The models and sensitivity analyses are used in a discussion about optimizing the thermal power plant.

Garnet peridotites occur in quartzofeldspathic gneisses in the Northern Qaidam Mountains,western *** are rich in Mg and Cr,with mineral compositions similar to those in mantle peridotites found in other orogenic belts and as xenoliths in ***-bearing lherzolites interlayered with dunite display oriented ilmenite and chromite lamellae in olivine and pyroxene lamellae in garnet that have been interpreted to indicate pressures in excess of 6 ***,some garnet porphyroblasts include hornblende,chlorite and spinel + orthopyroxene symplectite after garnet;some clinopyroxene porphyroblasts include abundant actinolite/edenite,calcite and lizardite in the lherzolite;some olivine porphyroblasts(Fo) include an earlier generation Mg-rich olivine(Fo),F-rich clinohumite, pyroxene,chromite,anthophyllite/cummingtonite,Cl-rich lizardite,carbonates and a new type of brittle mica,here termed ’Ca-phlogopite’,in the associated *** pyrope content of garnet increases from core to rim,reaching the pyrope content(72mol.%) of garnet typically found in the xenoliths in *** simplest interpretation of these observations is that the rock association was formerly mantle peridotite emplaced into the oceanic crust that was subjected to serpentinization by seawater-derived fluids near the sea *** during subduction to 3.0-3.5 GPa and 700℃transformed these serpentinites into garnet lherzolite and dunite,depending on their Al and Ca *** modelling using THErMOCALC shows that dehydration of the serpentinites is progressive,and involved three stages for Al-rich and two stages for Al-poor serpentinites, corresponding to the breakdown of the key hydrous *** burial and exhumation make olivine a pressure vessel for the pre-subduction mineral inclusions during ultrahigh-pressure(UHP) *** time span of the UHP event is constrained by the clear interface between the two generations of olivine to be very short,imp

The promotion of land,soil and water conservation measures has been a widespread development in sub-Saharan Africa in a bid to tackle degradation and improve *** a result,several gov-ernments have launched various campaigns on soil,land and water conservation *** aim of this study is to determine some of the factors that influence farmers'awareness(knowledge)and adoption of land,soil and water conservation *** for this study was collected from 312 households using a questionnaire survey in the Chinyanja Triangle of Southern *** study *** sampled from Tete province of Mozambique,central and southern regions of Malawi and eastern Province of *** used t-tests to classify adopters and non-adopters of soil,land and water con-servation measures and binomial logit models to identify the factors that infuence farmers'knowledge of conservation measures and adoption of land productivity *** results show that the household head's age,education,agricultural advice reception and farmer group membership are critical in raising *** the household head's age,education,agricultural advice reception,farmer group membership,pieces of land owned or used in production and land-to-man ratio influenced adoption *** study,therefore,concludes that in order to improve land productivity in the Chinyanja Triangle,there is a need to consider farmers'heterogeneity in terms of household head's age,level of education,extension services outreach,and socio-economic char *** suggests that governments'policies in the region should be aimed at improving farmers'level of education,extension delivery that will target the elderly and the youth,land ownership,credit access,and social capital such as group formation.
