Obstetrical Emergencies in Ouahigouya Regional Teaching Hospital (Burkina Faso) in the Context of Insecurity Linked to Armed Groups: A Comparative Study between Patients from Precarious Security Zones and Those from Safe Areas

Introduction: Insecurity can be an obstacle to access to emergency obstetric and newborn care, that is why we proposed to study obstetrical emergencies in Ouahigouya Regional Teaching Hospital, a referral hospital in a region plagued by insecurity linked to armed groups. Method: This was an analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection over a 4-month period, from June 10 to October 10, 2020. Patients from precarious security areas were compared to those from safer areas. The Chi squared and Fisher tests were used for comparison of variables. Results: Obstetric emergencies accounted for 38.62% of admissions, from which 25.59% came from precarious security zones. Age was similar in both comparison groups. However, patients from unsafe areas were more likely to reside in rural areas (p 0.001) and more likely to be in unpaid occupations (p 0.001). Prenatal visits were less frequent (p 0.01) and women were more often multigravidae (p 0.01) in the precarious security group of patients. Apart from the more frequent uterine rupture (p = 0.02) in the group from precarious security zones, diagnosed complications and maternal mortality were similar in the 2 groups, while perinatal mortality was higher in the group of patients from precarious security zones (p 0.01). Conclusion: The precarious security situation has negative consequences on maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Further studies are needed for better understanding of these consequences, and improvement of health system resilience strategies, to reduce related maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality.

Study of the behaviour of the dielectric constant in Cu,Fe:BaTiO_3

In this work we study the behaviour of the dielectric constant of BaTiO3 single crystals doped with Cu and Fe for different ion percentages, particularly, the influence of these hetemvalent substitutions on the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition whose temperature is found at Tc=120℃ for pure samples. The dielectric constant e in terms of temperature shows that the Curie temperature decreases when the quantity of impurities increases and presents a broadening and flattering of the maximum oft（T） within higher values, with the transition becoming more and more diffuse. It is interesting to have a material with very high permittivity （high-k） because of its capacity to store an important quantity of electric charges. The t anisotropy and the Curie-Weiss law are also verified with a good ratio between the slopes ofε^-l（T） from both sides of the transition, leading to a Curie constant： C= 13 × 10^4 K for BaTiO3：1.6%Fe in the polar phase. BaTiO3 is a displacive ferroelectric going through a first-order phase transition. The substitutions have an effect on the dynamics of the perovskite lattice. They induce charges transfer to Ti and a diminution of elastic forces in BaTiO3. Then we discuss the transition but on the nature of the material. fact that the maximum of permittivity does not depend on the phase

This study aims to show the aptitude of a locally made composite for providing thermal comfort and mechanical resistance in buildings in hot-dry *** thermal characterization reveals that the thermal diffusivity of the studied material is lower than that of commonly used materials such as agglomerated and full cinderblocks and laterite blocks and therefore is a better insulating *** addition,its thermal inertia is the highest compared to commonly used materials of agglomerated and full cinderblocks,laterite blocks and compressed earth blocks,which implies a longer time *** the basis of mechanical resistance,with a compression resistance of 3.61 MPa,the studied material meets the requirement of CRATerre and NBF 02-003(2009)as a material for construction of single-storey ***,this material,containing 1%Hibiscus sabdariffa fibers and compacted by vibration,is a suitable material for the walls of standing buildings and for thermal comfort in hot dry climates.

Antioxidant capacity and genoprotective effect of ethanol fruit extract from Detarium microcarpum Guill. and Perr.(Caesalpiniaceae)

Objective: To evidence the ability of ethanol fruit extract from Detarium microcarpum(D. microcarpum) to preserve DNA integrity against oxidative genomic ***: Ethanol extract from D. microcarpum fruit pulp was analyzed for its antioxidant capacity using ferric reducing antioxidant power, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl,2,20-azinobis-3-ethyl-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonate, superoxide anion, deoxyribose degradation and lipid peroxidation models. The genoprotective activity was assessed ex vivo by comet assay, on liver cells of NMRI female mice using cyclophosphamide(CP) as genotoxic ***: Ethanol extract from D. microcarpum fruit pulp exhibited interesting antioxidant activity in 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, deoxyribose degradation and lipid peroxidation assays. The extract did not present any genotoxic effect but protected DNA against CP-induced damages with a dose-dependent manner. The genoprotective effect observed was related to the antioxidant molecules of the fruit that scavenged the hydroxyl radical(generated by the metabolism of CP) as well as the peroxyl and alkoxyl radicals issued from lipid peroxidation. Other mechanisms such as inactivation of CP metabolism to genotoxic end products, induction of the expression of antioxidant and DNA repair enzymes have been ***: Our results suggest that the wild edible fruit from D. microcarpum could be beneficial on consumer's health by its antioxidant and genoprotective effects, particularly during chemotherapies exhibiting genotoxic effects like CP in cancer treatment.

Maxillary Osteitis in the Yalgado ouedraogo Teaching Hospital: Epidemiological, Clinical and Therapeutic Aspects

Purpose: Report the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of maxillary osteitis. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive, cross-sectional retrospective study carried out in the Department of Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Yalgado ouedraogo Teaching Hospital, covering a period of 7 years. Results: We registered 68 cases of maxillary osteitis with an annual hospital frequency of 9.71 cases. The mean age was 27.5 years +/-4.02 with extremes of 4 years and 72 years. Farmers/herders were the most concerned in 67.65% of the cases. Reasons for consultation were dominated by swelling of the cheek in 79.41% of cases. The average time to consultation was 7 months. Tooth decays and dental avulsions were mostly implicated in etiologies in 79.41% of the cases. Treatment provided was medical and surgical. All patients received antibiotic therapy. Surgical treatment involved 51.47% of patients. The evolution was favorable in 89.70% of the patients. Sequelae were found in 58.82% of the patients. Conclusion: Maxillary osteitis is common in our regions. Treatment is medical and surgical. It is marked by many difficulties, especially the delay in consultation.

Maxillary Ameloblastoma, Epidemiological Aspects and Treatment at the Yalgado ouedraogo University Hospital (Burkina Faso)

Purpose: To report any epidemiological, anatomo-clinical and therapeutic aspects of maxillary ameloblastoma at the Yalgado ouedraogo University Hospital (CHU-YO). Materials and Method: This was a descriptive and retrospective study covering the period ranging from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2016. All patients received in the stomatology department for maxillary ameloblastoma with histological confirmation were included in the study. Consultation registers were used as the basis for data collection. Results: In our study, 50 cases were reported, i.e. an incidence of 7.14 cases per year. The mean age was 30.16 years with a sex ratio of 0.56. Housewives were the most affected and the average time to consultation was 2.5 years. The site of the tumor was in the majority of cases the mandible 82%, with swelling as the main reason for consultation. X-rays showed a predominance of monogeodic images in 56% of the cases. Conservative surgery was performed in 56% of the cases. Conclusion: Ameloblastoma is common in our area, characterized by delayed consultation. Strengthening of the technical facilities and awareness campaigns for the populations for early consultation are required.

Vaginal Bleeding in the Nonpregnant Patient Received in Emergency at Yalgado ouedraogo University Hospital of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Objective: To describe the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of cases of vaginal bleeding in the nonpregnant patient received in emergency at Yalgado ouedraogo University Hospital. Materials and Methods: It was a retrospective and descriptive study that involved the clinical records of 326 patients collected from January 01, 2009 to December 31, 2013. Results: The average age of women was 47 years old with extremes at 12 and 82 years old. Women of childbearing age accounted for 61.6% and postmenopausal women 18.7%. 70.7% of women were pauciparous or nulliparous. Menorrhagia and pelvic pain were the main signs associated. This symptomatology required hospitalization in 85.2% of cases. The main aetiologies were uterine myomas 49.69%, cervical cancer 23% and functional metrorrhagia 11.04%. Progestin was the most used drug in 67.1% of cases. Total abdominal hysterectomy and abdominal myomectomy were the most commonly used surgical methods with 22.3%, 44.4% of cases. Eleven death cases were observed. Conclusion: Gynecological metrorrhagia is more common in women of childbearing age than in menopausal women. The main causes are fibroma, cervical cancer and functional metrorrhagia.

Self-compacting concrete(SCC)is a type of concrete which is frequently preferred in different applications due to its advantages such as its fluidity and transition in tight openings between steel reinforcing ***,it is vital that SCC maintains its fresh state characteristics when its transportation phase is taken into *** reinforced in SCC affects the properties of fresh concrete negatively while it had a positive effect on its dynamic *** this study,the effect of steel fibers having different aspect ratios on the time dependent fresh properties and mechani-cal properties of self-compacting concrete mixtures was *** addition to the control mixture without fiber,in the mixtures containing fiber,three different twin-hook steel fibers with aspect ratios of 54,64 and 50 were used as 0.6%of total *** all of the SCC mixtures,the water/cement ratio,cement dosage and slump-flow value were kept *** time dependent rheological properties of the mixtures were *** compressive,split-tensile and flexural strengths as well as fracture energy,the load deflection relation under flexural load and load-crack opening displacement,modulus of elasticity of SCC mixtures were also ***,the water absorption capacity and depth of penetration of water under pressure of mixtures were *** the basis of the results,the fiber utilization and its aspect ratio had no significant effect on compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of the SCC *** split-tensile,flexural strengths and fracture energy of SCC mixtures increased by using fiber;the permeability properties of SCC mixture increased by fiber utilization.
