Peripheral nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. Since the availability of autologous nerve transplants for nerve repair is very limited, alternative treatment strategies are sought, including the use of tubular nerve guidance conduits(tNGCs). however, the use of tNGCs results in poor functional recovery and central necrosis of the regenerating tissue, which limits their application to short nerve lesion defects(typically shorter than 3 cm). Given the importance of vascularization in nerve regeneration, we hypothesized that enabling the growth of blood vessels from the surrounding tissue into the regenerating nerve within the tNGC would help eliminate necrotic processes and lead to improved regeneration. In this study, we reported the application of macroscopic holes into the tubular walls of silk-based tNGCs and compared the various features of these improved silk^(+) tNGCs with the tubes without holes(silk^(–) tNGCs) and autologous nerve transplants in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomography and histological analyses, we were able to prove that the use of silk^(+) tNGCs induced the growth of blood vessels from the adjacent tissue to the intraluminal neovascular formation. A significantly higher number of blood vessels in the silk^(+) group was found compared with autologous nerve transplants and silk^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at the distal coaptation point compared with the silk^(–) tNGCs at 7 weeks postoperatively. In the 15-mm(critical size) sciatic nerve defect model, we again observed a distinct ingrowth of blood vessels through the tubular walls of silk^(+) tNGCs, but without improved functional recovery at 12 weeks postoperatively. Our data proves that macroporous tNGCs increase the vascular supply of regenerating nerves and facilitate improved axonal regeneration in a short-defect model but not in a critical-size defect model. BACKGROUND： Severe acute pancreatitis is a subtype of acute pancreatitis, associated with multiple organ failure and systemic inflammatory response syndrome. In this qualitative review we looked at the principles of pathogenesis, classification and surgical management of severe acute pancreatitis. We also looked at the current shift in paradigm in the management of severe acute pancreatitis since the guideline developed by the British Society of *** SOURCES： Studies published between 1st January 1991 and 31st December 2015 were identified with Pub Med, MEDLINE, EMBASE and Google Scholar online search engines using the following Medical Subject headings： “acute pancreatitis, necrosis, mortality, pathogenesis, incidence” and the terms “open necrosectomy and minimally invasive necrosectomy”.The National Institute of Clinical Excellence（NICE） Guidelines were also included in our study. Inclusion criteria for our clinical review included established guidelines, randomized controlled trials and non-randomized controlled trials with a follow-up duration of more than 6 ***： The incidence of severe acute pancreatitis within the UK is significantly rising and pathogenetic theories are still controversial. Mapping informal settlements is crucial for resource and utility management and *** 2003,the UN-habitat developed a process for mapping and monitoring urban inequality to support reporting against the sustainable development goals(SDGs).Informal settlement indicators are used as a framework to carry out image analysis,and include vegetation extent,lacunarity of housing structures/vacant land,road segment type and materials,texture measures of built-up areas,roofing extent of built-up areas and dwelling *** image analysis(OBIA)methods are recommended to identify informal *** paper documents the application of OBIA to map informal settlements,drawing on the ontology of Kohli et al.(2012)and the indicators of Owen and Wong(2013)for a Middle Eastern *** informal settlements with different land use histories were selected to represent old and new informal settlements in the city of Jeddah,Saudi *** extent was the most successful indicator detected,with 100% producer accuracy and over 84% user accuracy,followed by the road network,with 84% producer and user accuracies in older informal settlements and 73% producer accuracy and 96% user accuracy across all case *** of housing structures/vacant land was detected well in informal *** texture measure indicator was detected using GLCM_(Ent)(R)with low producer accuracy across all case *** roofing extent of the built-up area is detected with better producer and user accuracies than texture *** dwellings size indicator generally failed to distinguish formal from informal *** and formal were distinguished with an overall accuracy of 83%.This research concludes that OBIA is a useful method to map informal settlement indicators in Middle Eastern ***,a generic ruleset for mapping informal settlements remains elusive,and each indicator requires significant localised‘tuning’.

Key establishment and its management in Wireless Sensor Networks(WSN) is a challenging problem due to its limited resources and disordered structure. Many key management schemes have been developed recently for WSN to provide secure communication between source and destination sensor nodes.A serious threat highlighted in all of these schemes is that of node capture attacks,where an adversary gains full control over a sensor node through direct physical *** capture attacks can also be helpful to an adversary in new attacks like Blackhole and Denial of *** of these proposed key management solutions still suffer from node capture attacks with *** current sensor networks are assumed to be designed for specific applications,having key management protocols strongly coupled to *** future sensor networks are envisioned as comprising heterogeneous devices assisting to a large range of *** achieve this goal,a new application independent approach is needed. In this paper we therefore present a novel,extended version of our previously published Dynamic Group-based Key Establishment(DGKE) protocol. We compare the proposed scheme with existing key management schemes,which shows a significant improvement in resilience against node capture attacks,memory overhead and connectivity.

Assessment of VIIRS 375 m active fire using tropical peatland combustion algorithm applied to Landsat-8 over Indonesia’s peatlands

VIIRS 375 m active fire data(VNP14IMG),the highest spatial resolution available cost-free fire product,were assessed for representing fire in typical degraded tropical peatlands in *** results of applying the Tropical Peatland Combustion Algorithm to Landsat-8(ToPeCAl-L8)daytime imagery were utilised as the fire *** permit the comparison of non-simultaneous VNP14IMG and ToPeCAl-L8,peatland fire propagation speeds resulting from previous study using TET-1 data in Central Kalimantan’s peatlands were *** peatland fires were still within 750 m from their source over 15 h under uniform conditions,except for very large *** detection rates of nighttime VNP14IMG compared with ToPeCAl-L8 showed about 80%agreement for small fire areas(ha).For fires larger than 14 ha,a dissolved 375 m buffer(cluster buffer)of VNP14IMG active fires with an integration of nighttime and daytime acquisitions,produced a probability of detection up to 90%.These results generated a recommendation for implementing cluster buffer analysis and integration of nighttime and daytime analysis of VNP14IMG data for better accuracy in fire detection for ground fire *** also demonstrate the utility of the ToPeCAl-L8 algorithm with VIIRS 375 m active fire data.

The application of nanoscale zero-valent iron(nZVI) for the degradation of contaminants has been extensively investigated, however, few studies have focused on degradation in high salinity environments. In this study, the ability of bare and carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC)-coated bimetallic Pd-nZVI particles to degrade 33′44′-tetrachlorobiphenyl in high saline water(SW) is examined with particular attention given to the effects of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid(EDTA) on the rate of degradation. EDTA enhances the reactivity of Pd-nZVI in SW, with evidence provided to link this to the removal of the passivating layer. Additionally, a conceptual model is proposed which provides a quantitative description of the removal of these iron oxide layers in the presence of EDTA. An optimum EDTA to bare Pd-nZVI molar ratio of 0.1 exists, with insufficient EDTA unable to remove the passivating layer whilst excess EDTA results in Fe loss and enhanced agglomeration due to magnetic attraction of the bare Fe(0) particles. In contrast, CMCcoating of Pd-nZVI assemblages actually impedes degradation, despite the coated particles displaying a smaller average size compared to uncoated particles, with even the presence of EDTA in this case not significantly improving degradation. The reduced reactivity in the presence of CMC is primarily attributed to the effect of CMC on the association of Pd with nZVI particles. In particular, the presence of CMC reduced the total amount of Pd incorporated with the stabilized particles compared to the non-stabilized ***, the presence of CMC results in less Pd present in its reactive zero-valent oxidation state.
