Background: Understanding th. role of species identity in interactions among individuals is crucial for assessing th. productivity and stability of mixed forests over time. h.wever, th.re is limited knowledge concerning th. variation in competitive effect and response of different species along climatic gradients. In th.s study, we investigated th. importance of climate, tree size, and competition on th. growth.of th.ee tree species: spruce(Picea abies), fir(Abies alba), and beech.Fagus sylvatica), and examined th.ir competitive response and effect along a climatic ***: We selected 39 plots distributed across th. European mountains with.records of th. position and growth.of 5,759 individuals. For each.target species, models relating tree growth.to tree size, climate and competition were proposed. Competition was modelled using a neigh.ourh.od competition index th.t considered th. effects of inter-and intraspecific competition on target trees. Competitive responses and effects were related to *** meth.ds and information th.ory were used to select th. best ***: Our findings revealed th.t competition h.d a greater impact on target species growth.th.n tree size or climate. Climate did influence th. competitive effects of neigh.ouring species, but it did not affect th. target species? response to competition. Th. strength.of competitive effects varied along th. gradient, contingent on th. identity of th. interacting species. Wh.n th. target species exh.bited an intermediate competitive effect relative to neigh.ouring species, both.h.gh.r inter-th.n intraspecific competitive effects and competition reduction occurred along th. gradient. Mooring Tension and Motion Ch.racteristics of A Submerged Fish.Reef with.Net in Waves and Currents Using Numerical Analysis

A numerical model was used to analyze th. motion response and mooring tension of a submerged fish.reef system. Th. system included a net attach.d to a rigid structure suspended up from th. bottom with.a single, h.gh.tension mooring by fixed flotation. Th. analysis was performed by using a Morison equation type finite element model configured with.truss elements. Input forcing parameters into th. model consisted of both.regular and irregular waves, with.and with.ut a steady current. h.ave, surge and pitch.dynamic calculations of th. reef structure were made. Tension response results of th. attach.d mooring line were also computed. Results were analyzed in both.th. time and frequency domain in wh.ch.appropriate, linear transfer functions were calculated. Th. influence of th. current was more evident in th. tension and h.ave motion response data. Th.s is most likely th. result of th. large buoyancy ch.racteristics of th. reef structure and th. length.of th. mooting cable. Maximum mooting component tension was found to be 13.9 kN and occurred wh.n th. reef was subjected to irregular waves with.a co-linear current of 1.0 m/s velocity. Th. results also sh.wed th.t th. system h.d little damping （in h.ave） with.damped natural periods of 2.8 s. Th.s combination of system ch.racteristics promotes a possible resonating situation in typical open sea conditions with.similar wave periods.

Recently,great attention h.s been paid to geopolymer concrete due to its advantageous mech.nical and environmentally friendly *** effort h.s been made in experimental studies to advance th. understanding of geopolymer concrete,in wh.ch.compressive strength.is one of th. most important *** facilitate engineering work on th. material,an efficient predicting model is *** th.s study,th.ee mach.ne learning(ML)-based models,namely deep neural network(DNN),K-nearest neigh.ors(KNN),and support vector mach.nes(SVM),are developed for forecasting th. compressive strength.of th. geopolymer concrete.A total of 375 experimental samples are collected from th. literature to build a database for th. development of th. predicting models.A careful procedure for data preprocessing is implemented,by wh.ch.outliers are examined and removed from th. database and input variables are standardized before feeding to th. fitting *** standard K-fold cross-validation approach.is applied for evaluating th. performance of th. models so th.t overfitting status is well managed,th.s th. generalizability of th. models is *** effectiveness of th. models is assessed via statistical metrics including root mean squared error(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),correlation coefficient(R),and th. recently proposed performance index(PI).Th. basic mean square error(MSE)is used as th. loss function to be minimized during th. model fitting *** th.ee ML-based models are successfully developed for estimating th. compressive strength.for wh.ch.good correlations between th. predicted and th. true values are obtained for DNN,KNN,and *** numerical results suggest th.t th. DNN model generally outperforms th. oth.r two models.

Welfare and Market Impacts of Food Safety Measures in Ch.na: Results from Urban Consumers' Valuation of Product Attributes

Th.s study provides an economics assessment of various food safety measures in Ch.na. A ch.ice experiment approach.is used to elicit Ch.nese consumer preferences for various food safety attributes using data from a 2008 urban consumer survey. An alternative welfare calculation is used to model aggregate market impacts of select food safety measures. Our results sh.w th.t th. largest welfare gains are found in th. current government-run certiifcation program. Th. implementation of a th.rd-party certiifcation system, a traceability network and a product label would generate signiifcant value and would h.lp reduce current system inefifciencies in Ch.na. Th.s study builds on previous research.and provides an alternative approach.for calculating consumer valuation of safety and quality attributes th.t can be used to estimate aggregate economic and welfare impacts.

Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFAS)are ubiquitous in th. environment but sources are not well defined for temporal and spatial aspects with.n an urban environment,and especially for an arid urban environment subject to seasonal sh.rt term h.gh.intensity precipitation events.A focused diel sampling was conducted in th. summer of 2021 to assess th. temporal and spatial variability of PFAS in th. Rio Grande near Albuquerque,New Mexico and sh.wed an order of magnitude increase of PFAS as it flows th.ough.th. Albuquerque urban *** samples were collected at two different locations on th. Rio Grande in addition to wastewater treatment plant(WWTP)effluent th.t disch.rges directly to th. Rio Grande between th. sampling ***-term h.gh.intensity precipitation events occurred during th. study period and mobilized PFAS from urban *** organic matter composed of tryptoph.n-like organic substances and refined fuel and fuel byproducts,ch.racteristic of an urban signature,were also related to th. precipitation *** PFAS in disch.rge from th. WWTP was consistent over a 24-h.period with.sligh. differences in some *** presence on th. Rio Grande downstream of th. Objective:To correlate th. utility of th. Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery(FLS)manual skills program with.th. Objective Structured Assessment of Tech.ical Skills(OSATS)global rating scale in evaluating operative ***:Th. Asian Urological Surgery Training and Educational Group(AUSTEG)Laparoscopic Upper Tract Surgery Course implemented and validated th. FLS program for its usage in laparoscopic surgical ***’basic laparoscopic skills were assessed using th.ee different training models(peg transfer,precision cutting,and intra-corporeal suturing).Th.y also performed live porcine laparoscopic surgery at th. same *** surgery skills were assessed by blinded faculty using th. OSATS rating ***:From March.2016 to March.2019,a total of 81 certified urologists participated in th. course,with.a median of 5 years of post-residency *** differences in task time did not reach.statistical significance,th.se with.more surgical experience were visibly faster at completing th. peg transfer and intra-corporeal suturing FLS ***,th.y took longer to complete th. precision cutting task th.n participants with.less *** OSATS scores correlated weakly with.all th.ee FLS tasks(peg transfer time:r=0.331,r^(2)=0.110;precision cutting time:r=0.240,r^(2)=0.058;suturing with.intracorporeal knot time:r=0.451,r^(2)=0.203).Conclusion:FLS task parameters did not correlate strongly with.OSATS globing rating scale *** FLS task models demonstrated strong validity,it is important to assimilate th. inconsistencies wh.n bench.arking tech.ical proficiency against real-life operative competence,as evaluated by FLS and OSATS,respectively.
