Longitudinal changes in cardiac function in the very elderly: the Jerusalem longitudinal cohort study

Background People over the age of 85 are a rapidly growing age group with a high incidence of congestive heart failure(CHF),in particular heart failure with preserved ejection fraction(HFp eF).The diagnosis of CHF is challenging and longitudinal data assessing cardiac structure and function are necessary to distinguish physiologic from pathologic cardiac *** objective of the study was to determine longitudinal changes in cardiac struture and function from ages 85 to 94 years using home *** Subjects were recruited from the Jerusalem Longitudinal Cohort *** three members of the initial cohort(32 F,31 m)who underwent home echocardiography at age 85 were the subjects of the current study and underwent repeat home 2-D and Doppler echocardiographic assessment at age *** There were no significant longitudinal changes in left ventricular mass index(LVmI),however LV end-diastolic volume significantly decreased from 113.4±30 to 103.6±35.5 m L(Pejection fraction(eF)remained stable,however longitudinal systolic function significantly decreased with age from 7.9±1.8 to 6.6±1.4 cm/s2(Pessed by increased e:e’(11.2±3.4 to 16±7.5,Peased left atrial volume index(34.1±11.3 to 42.4±13.7 m L/m^2,Peduced with *** This study demonstrated preserved eF with decreased longitudinal systolic function and diastolic function without significant change in LV *** in LV function in the very elderly may be independent of changes in LV geometry.

Can VmD improve the estimate of the muon g-2?

We show that a VmD based theoretical input allows for a significantly improved accuracy for the hadronic vacuum polarization of the photon which contributes to the theoretical estimate of the muon g-2. We also show that the only experimental piece of information in the τ decay which cannot be accounted for within this VmD framework is the accepted value for Br（τ→ππvτ）, while the T spectum lineshape is in agreement with expectations from e^＋e^- annihilations.

Introduction: Also known as maternal burnout syndrome, maternal burnout is a state of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion generated by prolonged stress in the family environment. It is experienced by women in their role as mothers. Those affected can develop psychological disorders, sleep disturbances, etc., all of which impair their day-to-day lives, and thus their maternal role. The repercussions affect both the child and other family members. Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate maternal burnout among female users of public and private health facilities in the commune of Parakou in 2023. methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2022 to July 2023 among all mothers using public and private health facilities in the commune of Parakou. All healthy mothers with at least one biological or adoptive child fully dependent on them and living at home, who came for a consultation in one of the health facilities or for an appointment at the expanded Program on Immunization (ePI) and gave their free and informed consent. Sampling was done for non-exhaustive convenience were included in the study. Burnout was assessed using the Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA) scale. Results: A total of 888 mothers meeting the inclusion criteria were surveyed. The prevalence of burnout calculated using the Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA) scale was 6.19%. The risk factors for maternal burnout were poor relationships with family and friends (OR = 8.90;p = 0.045), moderate (OR = 11.71;p = 0.020) and severe depression (OR = 40.85;p = 0.001), followed by the presence of repeated nocturnal awakening (OR = 5.14;p = 0.014). Conclusion: This is a subject that is almost never discussed in African society, but whose reality is revealed by the present study, which provided statistical data on maternal burnout. From now on, the risk of burnout will no longer be discussed solely in the family context. It will also need to be explored within the fam

The cardiovascular aspects of a ménière’s disease population——A pilot study

Introduction:mD is considered a rare *** adequate model that explains mD's pathophysiology is not well ***,the vascular theory of the disease has been ***:To characterize a mD population according to its cardiovascular risk and correlate it to the mD clinical ***:In this retrospective chart study the data of 31 mD patients observed between January 2017 and April 2018 in a tertiary university hospital were *** included in the study were diagnosed according to the Barany Society *** follow-ups,patients with autoimmune disease,atopy or allergy,major psychiatric disease and migraine were ***,gender,cardiovascular risk factors,audiometric and vestibular parameters,occurrence of mD attacks in the previous 6 months,vestibular medication in course and time course of mD were recorded and compared between groups(with and without cardiovascular risk factors).Results:31 patients(61.3%females)mean aged 60.3 years(±9.7)were studied.74%of the population had at least one risk factor and 51.6%of patients had attacks in the last 6 *** was a statistically significant difference in the occurrence of mD attacks in the last 6 months(p=0.014)between mD patients with and without risk *** PTA thresholds were higher and speech discrimination was lower in individuals with more cardiovascular risk ***:Treatment of mD focusing on vascular risk factors may allow a better control of symptoms and result in a decreased need for ablative procedures in this disorder.

Disagreement in middle ear volume estimation between tympanometry and three-dimensional volume reconstruction in the context of tympanic membrane perforation

Introduction: middle ear volume(meV) is a clinically relevant parameter across middle ear diseases. meV values between these techniques have never before been tested for agreement in ears with perforated tympanic membranes(Tms).methods: middle ears were identified from 36 patients ranging 18-89 years of age with Tm perforations who underwent tympanometry and temporal bone computed tomography(CT) between 2005 and 2015. meVs calculated by both tympanometry and three-dimensional volume reconstruction(3DVR) were analyzed for agreement using Bland Altman plots. The differences between tympanometric and 3DVR meV values for each given middle ear were characterized across meV quartiles(1= smallest; 4= largest) and across increasing states of middle ear disease using Kruskale Wallis and Wilcoxon testing with Bonferroni ***: Bland Altman plots demonstrated significant disagreement between meV measurement techniques. Differences between tympanometric(T) and 3DVR meV values were significantly greater with increasing average(i.e.(Tt3DVR)/2)) meV per linear regression(p e was demonstrated between fourth and first average meV quartiles(p= 0.0024), fourth and second quartiles(p= 0.0024), third and first quartiles(p= 0.0048), and third and second quartiles(p= 0.048). Absolute meV difference was not significantly different across varying states of middle ear disease(p= 0.44).Conclusion: Statistically and clinically significant disagreement was demonstrated between tympanometric and 3DVR meV values. Studies that vary in meV estimation techniques may be expected to demonstrate significantly different results. These preliminary results suggest that clinicians should endeavor to seek further confirmation when interpreting high tympanometric meV values.

Temperature and composition dependent screw dislocation mobility in austenitic stainless steels from large-scale molecular dynamics

extensive molecular dynamics simulations are performed to determine screw dislocation mobility in austenitic Fe_(0.7)NixCr_(0.3-x) stainless steels as a function of temperature ranging from 100 to 1300 K,resolved shear stress from 30 to 140 mPa,and Ni composition from 0.0 to 30.0 at%.These mobility data are fitted to a linear mobility law with a nonzero stress offset,referred to as the threshold *** find that both the linear drag coefficient and the threshold stress increase with Ni *** drag coefficient increases with temperature,whereas the threshold stress decreases with *** on these calculations,we determine fitting functions for the linear solute drag coefficient as a function of temperature and *** mobility laws determined in this study may serve to inform dislocation dynamics simulations pertinent to dislocation network evolution at elevated temperatures for a wide composition range of austenitic stainless steels.

No evidence for enzootic plague within black-tailed prairie dog(Cynomys ludovicianus)populations

Yersinia pestis,causative agent of plague,occurs throughout the western United States in rodent populations and periodically causes epizootics in susceptible species,including black-tailed prairie dogs(Cynomys ludovicianus).How *** persists long-term in the environment between these epizootics is poorly understood but multiple mechanisms have been proposed,including,among others,a separate enzootic transmission cycle that maintains *** without involvement of epizootic hosts and persistence of *** within epizootic host populations without causing high mortality within those *** live-trapped and collected fleas from black-tailed prairie dogs and other mammal species from sites with and without black-tailed prairie dogs in 2004 and 2005 and tested all fleas for presence of *** was not detected in 2126 fleas collected in 2004 but was detected in 294 fleas collected from multiple sites in 2005,before and during a widespread epizootic that drastically reduced black-tailed prairie dog populations in the affected *** and spatial patterns of *** occurrence in fleas and genotyping of *** present in some infected fleas suggest *** was introduced multiple times from sources outside the study area and once introduced,was dispersed between several *** conclude *** likely was not present in these black-tailed prairie dog colonies prior to epizootic activity in these *** we did not identify likely enzootic hosts,we found evidence that deer mice(Peromyscus maniculatus)may serve as bridging hosts for *** between unknown enzootic hosts and black-tailed prairie dogs.

High-resolution impedance mapping using electrically activated quantitative phase imaging

Retrieving electrical impedance maps at the nanoscale rapidly via nondestructive inspection with a high signal-to-noise ratio is an unmet need,likely to impact various applications from biomedicine to energy *** this study,we develop a multimodal functional imaging instrument that is characterized by the dual capability of impedance mapping and phase quantitation,high spatial resolution,and low temporal *** achieve this,we advance a quantitative phase imaging system,referred to as epi-magnified image spatial spectrum microscopy combined with electrical actuation,to provide complementary maps of the optical path and electrical *** demonstrate our system with high-resolution maps of optical path differences and electrical impedance variations that can distinguish nanosized,semi-transparent,structured coatings involving two materials with relatively similar electrical *** map heterogeneous interfaces corresponding to an indium tin oxide layer exposed by holes with diameters as small as~550 nm in a titanium(dioxide)over-layer deposited on a glass *** show that electrical modulation during the phase imaging of a macro-electrode is decisive for retrieving electrical impedance distributions with submicron spatial resolution-and beyond the limitations of electrode-based technologies(surface or scanning technologies).The findings,which are substantiated by a theoretical model that fits the experimental data very well enable achieving electro-optical maps with high spatial and temporal *** virtues and limitations of the novel optoelectrochemical method that provides grounds for a wider range of electrically modulated optical methods for measuring the electric field locally are critically discussed.

The transient tribological phenomenon and premature lubricant breakdown have been widely observed in metal forming,leading to excessive friction at the contact *** this research,the transient tribological behaviour of a two-phase lubricant were studied under complex loading conditions,featuring abrupt interfacial temperature,contact load,and sliding speed changes,thus representing the severe interfacial conditions observed in warm/hot metal forming *** strong experimental evidence indicates that the evolution of friction was attributed to the physical diminution and chemical decomposition *** such,a visco-mechanochemical interactive friction model was developed to accurately predict the transient tribological behaviour of the two-phase lubricant under complex loading *** new friction model exhibited close agreements between the modelling and experimental results.
