Objectives:Persistent olfactory dysfunction(Od)following loss of smell associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection is a major feature of long *** on the prevalence of persistent Od predominantly rely on self-reported olfactory *** studies have tracked longitudinal rates of recovery using psychophysical assessment among patients presenting for evaluation of persistent Od beyond a window of acute *** anchored in standardized testing methods are needed to counsel patients who fail to acutely regain their sense of *** study aims to quantify the degree of persistent Od in post-COVId-19 patients who experience subjective and psychophysical ***:We grouped participants presenting for Od evaluation into cohorts based on both subjective and psychophysical olfactory status at a baseline assessment and assessed their olfactory abilities with a visual analogue scale and the Sniffin'Sticks extended test at baseline and 1-year time *** had confirmed a history of COVId-19 by lab evaluation or clinical diagnosis if lab evaluation was not ***:Baseline olfactory evaluation was completed by 122 participants,53 of whom completed the 1-year follow-up *** participants presenting with perceived Od,74.5%had confirmed psychophysical Od at baseline,with 55.1%at 1-year *** had reliable trends in self-rated versus psychophysically tested olfactory function at both time *** total threshold,discrimination,and identification(TdI)score improved by+3.25 points in the cohort with psychophysical Od(p=0.0005),with this improvement largely attributable to an increase in median threshold scores(+2.75 points;p=0.0004).Conclusions:Od persists in a significant number of patients who fail to acutely recovery their sense of smell after COVId-19,with many demonstrating lingering deficits at *** in threshold,but not discrimination or identification,most significantly mediate improvement

Background:It is well known that laparoscopic liver surgery can offer advantages over open liver surgery in selected ***,what type of procedures can benefit most from a laparoscopic approach has been investigated poorly thus *** aim of this study is thus to define the extent of advantages of laparoscopic over open liver surgery for lesions in the anterolateral(AL)and posterosuperior(PS)***:In this international multicentre retrospective cohort study,laparoscopic and open minor liver resections for lesions in the AL and PS segments were compared after propensity score *** differential benefit of laparoscopy over open liver surgery,calculated using bootstrap sampling,was compared between AL and PS resections and expressed as a delta of the ***:After matching,3,040 AL and 2,336 PS resections were compared,encompassing open and laparoscopic procedures in a 1:1 *** and PS laparoscopic liver resections were more advantageous in comparison to open in terms of blood loss,transfusion rate,complications,and length of ***,AL resections benefitted more from laparoscopy than PS in terms of overall and severe complications(d-difference were 4.8%,P=0.046 and 3%,P=0.046)and blood loss(d-difference was 195 mL,Pd in the subset for high-volume centres,while in recent years no significant differences were found in the differential benefit between AL and PS ***:The advantage of laparoscopic over open liver surgery is greater in the AL segments than in the PS segments.

Rice is one of the most widely cultivated cereals in the world, and its aroma is increasingly in demand. With the advancement of research, a major rice flavor gene has been identified on rice chromosome 8. It encodes non-functional betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase leading to the accumulation of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline which is the major olfactory compound that confers the fragrant character to rice. The aroma of rice is considered a special trait of enormous economic importance that determines the prime price in world trade. To satisfy the needs of the population and reduce rice imports into Benin, we conducted this study to identify aromatic rice accessions grown in Benin. Seventy-two rice accessions collected across Benin were PCR amplified with three SSR markers RM 7049, Aro 7, and RM 223, linked to the fgr (fragrance of rice) aroma gene. Molecular analysis revealed that 12 of the 72 accessions, namely Bagou 19, Bagou 22, Tchaka 34, Foun 15, Tchaka 41, Nana 32, Kan 61, Kung 69, Kung 67, Bagou 20, Agbab 101 and Koum 55 possess the fgr gene and can be considered as aromatic rice accessions. A sensory phenotypic test using KOH was carried out on rice accessions carrying fgr gene. Of the twelve positives, only one had the smell of aromatic rice, like the Azucena control. These results show that Benin also has aromatic rice varieties that can be sold on national and international markets.

Increasing use on mountain summits has both social and ecological *** numbers of visitors climbing mountain summits can be a safety issue,particularly in areas where terrain or elevation leads to queueing that may cause time *** visitor use levels at site specific locations en route to summits is needed to understand the potential benefits and impacts of visitor use in these ***,it can be difficult to obtain reliable and robust data to estimate use and develop statistical relationships because of the remote and harsh climates on mountain summits,as well as the financial and personnel requirements involved to collect the data in remote *** 2015,data were collected on the higher stretches of the Keyhole Route on Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park,USA(RMNP)to better understand use levels near the summit and to explore potential statistical relationships to trailhead use data that are relatively easy to *** statistical relationships from robust regression analyses were found between trailhead use counts and daily and hourly use totals on the"Homestretch"which is a final section of the Keyhole ***,a strong statistical relationship was found between total daily use and maximum hourly use on the *** results suggest that trailhead counts are an accurate and reliable means from which to estimate use levels on upper portions of the Keyhole ***,this research demonstrates the usefulness of an approach using proxy variables to estimate visitor use along remote peaks where data collection can be *** types of data can elucidate various options and decisions for park management teams who are charged with deciding if and how to manage high use areas.

Titanium dioxide was deposited from aqueous suspension onto cellulosic surfaces. Titania was sourced from degussa （P25TM, 70：30 anatase：rutile）. dry uptake of particles was shown to be rapid and dominant with one-third of the deposition occurring in less than 30 s and over one-half in the first minute. Isotherms were recorded to compare the rate of titanium deposition on dry and pre-wetted cotton. In the dry case uptake reached a maximum in 30 min whereas in the pre-wetted case the uptake was seen to continue beyond 180 min. A broad trend of higher deposition occurring at lower pH was seen, corresponding to the region where surface charges were opposite and thus attractive. dry pickup was less significant at high pH. The response to varying ionic strength was complex and was attributed to the combined effect of charge screening, particle aggregation and consequent particle entrapment or occlusion. Titania deposition into the interstices of woven cotton sheets resulted in the formation of inorganic, nanoparticulate skeletons which could be isolated by controlled combustion of the cellulose and thus cotton was suggested to have potential for the templated synthesis of high surface area semiconductor materials.

We report the design, fabrication, and characterization of a universal silicon PN junction ring resonator for C band error-free communication links operated up to 50 Gb/s with co-designed optical modulation and detection performance. The universal p-n junction ring device shows co-designed detection responsivity up to 0.84 A/W, in conjunction with a modulation efficiency of -4 V·mm and>8 d B optical modulation extinction ratio, enabling C band 50 Gb/s NRZ communication link with a bit error rate≤3×10^(-12).
