Probabilistic 2D Shape Retrieval and Applications via the Method of Hurwitz-Radon Matrices

Artificial intelligence and computer vision need methods for 2D （two-dimensional） shape retrieval having discrete set of boundary points. A novel method of MHR （Hurwitz-Radon Matrices） is used in shape modeling. Proposed method is based on the family of MHR which possess columns composed of orthogonal vectors. 2D curve is retrieved via different functions as probability distribution functions： sine, cosine, tangent, logarithm, exponent, arcsin, arccos, arctan and power function. Created from the family of N-1 MHR and completed with the identical matrix, system of matrices is orthogonal only for dimensions N = 2, 4 or 8. Orthogonality of columns and rows is very significant for stability and high precision of calculations. MHR method is interpolating the function point by point without using any formula of function. Main features of MHR method are： accuracy of curve reconstruction depending on number of nodes and method of choosing nodes, interpolation of L points of the curve is connected with the computational cost of rank O（L）, MHR interpolation is not a linear interpolation.

Background For many years in ischemic heart disease, ventricles rather than atria received attention so not much is known about left atrial function in left ventricular ischemia. Objective Our study aimed to evaluate left atrial appendage (LAA) function by means of biplane transesophageal echocardiography in patients ten days after acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Methods The study was performed on 16 adult patients (65.9±9.9 years old) in whom transesophageal echocardiography was done 10 days after ACS. The following left atrial appendage (LAA) planimetric parameters were analyzed: LAA transversal dimension, LAA longitudinal dimension,LAA maximal area, and LAA minimal area. LAA ejection fraction was calculated and analyzed. The following LAA Doppler parameters were analyzed: the peak LAA emptying and the peak LAA filling velocities. The control group consisted of 14 patients (43±14.6 years old) without cardiovascular diseases. Results Both LAA longitudinal dimension and LAA transversal dimension were significantly higher in patients with ACS than in control patients. The same was observed for LAA maximal area. Also LAA ejection fraction was higher in patients with ACS . LAA minimal area did not differ in the patients in either group. LAA peak emptying flow (LAAE) and LAA peak filling flow (LAAF) were significantly higher in patients of the study group than of the control group. Conclusion Our study shows that two weeks after acute coronary syndrome LAA as a reservoir as well as a pump works at a higher level than it does in the control group. Mathematics and computer sciences need suitable methods for numerical calculations of integrals. Classical methods, based on polynomial interpolation, have many weak sides: they are useless to interpolate the function that fails to be differentiable at one point or differs from the shape of polynomials considerably. We cannot forget about the Runge’s phenomenon. To deal with numerical interpolation and integration dedicated methods should be constructed. One of them, called by author the method of Hurwitz-Radon Matrices (MHR), can be used in reconstruction and interpolation of curves in the plane. This novel method is based on a family of Hurwitz-Radon (HR) matrices. The matrices are skew-symmetric and possess columns composed of orthogonal vectors. The operator of Hurwitz-Radon (OHR), built from that matrices, is described. It is shown how to create the orthogonal and discrete OHR and how to use it in a process of function interpolation and numerical integration. Created from the family of N-1 HR matrices and completed with the identical matrix, system of matrices is orthogonal only for vector spaces of dimensions N = 2, 4 or 8. Orthogonality of columns and rows is very significant for stability and high precision of calculations. MHR method is interpolating the curve point by point without using any formula of function. Main features of MHR method are: accuracy of curve reconstruction depending on number of nodes and method of choosing nodes;interpolation of L points of the curve is connected with the computational cost of rank O(L);MHR interpolation is not a linear interpolation.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy （TTC） is a rare condition that affects mainly aging women. According to a retrospective review, patients with TTC accounted for approximately 2% of all the patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome （ACS）. A few reports indicated that the average age of TTC patients was 68 years, although children or young adults may also be affected. In US and Europe, a number of contemporary TTC studies report that 90% of patients with TTC are women aged 65-70 years. Meta analysis showed that the age ranged from 10 to 89 years.

Image analysis and computer vision are interested in suitable methods to solve the nonlinear equations. Coordinate x??for f (x)?= 0?is crucial because each equation can be transformed into f (x)?= 0. A novel method of Hurwitz-Radon Matrices (MHR) can be used in approximation of a root of function in the plane. The paper contains a way of data approximation via MHR method to solve any equation. Proposed method is based on the family of Hurwitz-Radon (HR) matrices. The matrices are skew-symmetric and possess columns composed of orthogonal vectors. The operator of Hurwitz-Radon (OHR), built from these matrices, is described. Two-dimensional data are represented by discrete set of curve??f points. It is shown how to create the orthogonal OHR operator and how to use it in a process of data interpolation. MHR method is interpolating the curve point by point without using any formula or function.

Bridge Falsework in Staged Construction of a Prestressed Concrete Beam Bridge

The formwork and falsework in the construction of twin ribbed slab decks on a multi-span ecological bridge for a dual carriageway are presented. The bridge is situated in a valley plain which is crossed by small rivers and was designed principally with the environment in mind. The bridge length is over 356 m, and the width of the decks is 11.5 m. For the bridge works, a simple conventional falsework system was chosen with steel frames for the supports and steel rolled beams for the decks. The formwork was constructed in solid timber and plywood as multiple-use panels. The falsework was designed in order to build the two 10-span bridge decks in stages. The decks are continuous cast-in-situ prestressed concrete twin rib with spans of 30 m, 34 m and 45 m. An individual falsework system was designed, which was easy to move transversally following completion of each stage for one deck. After finishing each stage, for the second deck, the falsework was dismantled and used again in the next construction fronts. An individual arrangement for the falsework along with timber pilings was used to cross the biggest river. The formwork timber panels were used several times in the multistage bridge construction. The adopted falsework system is very simple, but it allowed the speedy construction of the two decks where there were severe time constraints.

Objective To evaluate short- and long-term changes in quality of life (QoL) in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and to assess differences in patient QoL when using the TAVI transaortic (TAVI TAo) approach compared with the transfemoral approach (TAVI TF) and surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). Methods Ninety-seven patients were assessed. Thirty-two patients underwent TAVI TAo, 31 underwent TAVI TF and 34 patients underwent SAVR. QoL was assessed using the EQ-5D-3L questionnaire at baseline, after one month and one year. Results Mean patient age was 80 years (range, 61–92 years) and the mean logistic EuroSCORE was 12.45%(range, 1.39%?78.98%). Declared health state at baseline was significantly lower in TAVI TF (P < 0.001) and after one month there were no differences between the three groups (P = 0.99). After one year, SAVR patient results of the EQ-5D-3L index value were lower in comparison to both TAVI patient groups (P < 0.05). The analysis also showed significant differences between the results of EQ-5D-3L index value over the one month and one year follow-up (TAVI TAo, P < 0.001;TAVI TF, P < 0.05;SAVR, P < 0.05). In all groups, the values significantly increased after one-month and one-year of follow-up in comparison to baseline value. Significant differences were also demonstrated between Visual Analogue Scale values (VAS). Conclusions A significant improvement in QoL was observed in all three patient groups. Regardless of the TAVI approach, EQ-5D-3L and VAS values were significantly increased after one-month and one-year follow up;the SAVR patients however, reported lower health status when compared to the TAVI patients.
