Risk of Flash Floods in Urban and Rural Municipalities Triggered by Intense Precipitation in Wielkopolska of Poland

This research analyzed interventions of State Fire Service(SFS)units in the Wielkopolska region of Poland that were triggered by extreme precipitation for the period *** results demonstrated that the most populated and urbanized towns in the Wielkopolska(Greater Poland,west of Warsaw)region are at the most risk in the event of extreme precipitation occurrence as measured by the total number of interventions made by the *** number of SFS unit interventions in towns,standardized to 10,000 inhabitants,indicates that the highest proportional volume of interventions also occurred in smaller *** the rural municipalities the number of SFS unit interventions increases along with higher population density and proportion of infrastructure *** analyzed in this study,the 12 years from 2010 to 2021 were characterized by a higher number of days with heavy precipitation,for example,20,30,40,and 50 mm,in comparison to the previous periods 1961-2010 and *** databases collected by emergency services are a valuable source of information for hazard *** on those and other available data,a statistical model was created and factors influencing the local and regional occurrence of interventions were *** suburbanization,the rising proportion of impermeable surfaces,and the impact of climate change are of considerable importance in urban flood *** is necessary to help municipalities develop abilities to absorb larger amounts of rainwater.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and left ventricular non-compaction:Distinct diseases or variant phenotypes of a single condition?

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy(HCM)is a genetically determined myocardial disease characterized by an increased thickness of the left ventricle(LV)wall that cannot be solely attributed to abnormal loading *** may present with an intraventricular or LV outflow tract obstruction,diastolic dysfunction,myocardial fibrosis and/or ventricular *** HCM from other diseases associated with LV hypertrophy,such as hypertension,aortic stenosis,or LV non-compaction(LVNC),can at times be *** is defined by excessive LV trabeculation and deep recesses between trabeculae,often accompanied by increased LV myocardial *** studies indicate that the LVNC phenotype may be observed in up to 5%of the general population;however,in most cases,it is a benign finding with no impact on clinical ***,LVNC can occasionally lead to LV systolic dysfunction,manifesting as a phenotype of dilated or non-dilated left ventricular cardiomyopathy,with an increased risk of thrombus formation and arterial *** extreme cases,where LVNC is associated with a very thickened LV wall,it can even mimic *** is growing evidence of an overlap between HCM and LVNC,including similar genetic mutations and clinical *** raises the question of whether HCM and LVNC represent different phenotypes of the same disease or are,in fact,two distinct entities.

Since the 1960s,a new class of Si-based advanced ceramics called polymer-derived ceramics(PDCs)has been widely reported because of their unique capabilities to produce various ceramic materials(e.g.,ceramic fibers,ceramic matrix composites,foams,films,and coatings)and their versatile ***,due to their promising structural and functional properties for energy conversion and storage,the applications of PDCs in these fields have attracted much attention in recent *** review highlights the recent progress in the PDC field with the focus on energy conversion and storage ***,a brief introduction of the Si-based polymer-derived ceramics in terms of synthesis,processing,and microstructure characterization is provided,followed by a summary of PDCs used in energy conversion systems(mainly in gas turbine engines),including fundamentals and material issues,ceramic matrix composites,ceramic fibers,thermal and environmental barrier coatings,as well as high-temperature ***,applications of PDCs in the field of energy storage are reviewed with a strong focus on anode materials for lithium and sodium ion *** possible applications of the PDCs in Li–S batteries,supercapacitors,and fuel cells are discussed as ***,a summary of the reported applications and perspectives for future research with PDCs are presented.

Background： The health of chickens and the welfare of poultry industry are central to the efforts of addressing global food security. Therefore, it is essential to study chicken immunology to maintain and improve its health and to find novel and sustainable solutions. This paper presents a study on investigation of the effect of Scutellaria baicalensis root（SBR） on the immune response of broiler chicken, especially on lymphocytes and heterophils reactivity, regarding their contribution to the development of immunity of the ***： The 121-day-old Hubbard Hi-Y male broiler hybrids were randomly assigned to four treatment groups,three SBR supplemented groups（0.5, 1.0, and 1.5% of SBR） and one control group. Each treatment was replicated five times with six birds per replicate pen in a battery brooder. Blood was collected after 3-（rd） and 6-（th）wk of the experiment, and hemoglobin and hematocrit values were determined, as well as total leukocyte count and differential count were performed. Nitroblue tetrazolium test and phagocytosis assay as nonspecific immune parameters and humoral immune responses to the antigenic challenge by sheep red blood cells were ***, the ability of peripheral blood lymphocytes to form radial segmentation（RS） of their nuclei was *** weight and relative weight of spleen, liver, and bursa of Fabricius were ***： Results showed that mean heterophile/lymphocyte ratio increased in the SBR groups compared to the control group and the blood of the chickens showed lymphocytic depletion. Strategies to obtain pattern fidelity in nanowire growth from large-area surfaces patterned using nanoimprint lithography

Position controlled nanowire growth is important for nanowire-based optoelectronic components which rely on light emission or light absorption. For solar energy harvesting applications, dense arrays of nanowires are needed; however, a major obstacle to obtaining dense nanowire arrays is seed particle displacement and coalescing during the annealing stage prior to nanowire growth. Here, we explore three different strategies to improve pattern preservation of large-area catalyst particle arrays defined by nanoimprint lithography for nanowire growth. First, we see that heat treating the growth substrate prior to nanoimprint lithography improves pattern preservation. Second, we explore the possibility of improving pattern preservation by fixing the seed particles in place prior to annealing by modifying the growth procedure. And third, we show that a SiNx growth mask can fully prevent seed particle displacement. We show how these strategies allow us to greatly improve the pattern fidelity of grown InP nanowire arrays with dimensions suitable for solar cell applications, ultimately achieving 100% pattern preservation over the sampled area. The generic nature of these strategies is supported through the synthesis of GaAs and GaP nanowires.

Study of photocurrent generation in InP nanowire-based p＋-i-n＋ photodetectors

We report on electrical and optical properties of p＋-i-n＋ photodetectors/solar cells based on square millimeter arrays of InP nanowires （NWs） grown on InP substrates. The study includes a sample series where the p＋-segment length was varied between 0 and 250 nm, as well as solar cells with 9.3% efficiency with similar design. The electrical data for all devices display clear rectifying behavior with an ideality factor between 1.8 and 2.5 at 300 K. From spectrally resolved photocurrent measurements, we conclude that the photocurrent generation process depends strongly on the p^-segment length. Without a p＋-segment, photogenerated carriers funneled from the substrate into the NWs contribute strongly to the photocurrent. Adding a p＋-segment decouples the substrate and shifts the depletion region, and collection of photogenerated carriers, to the NWs, in agreement with theoretical modeling. In optimized solar cells, clear spectral signatures of interband transitions in the zinc blende and wurtzite InP layers of the mixed-phase i-segments are observed. Complementary electroluminescence, transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, as well as measurements of the dependence of the photocurrent on angle of incidence and polarization, support our interpretations.
