Six novel monacolin analogs, monacolins V_1–V_6(1–6), together with seven known ones(7–13), were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of red yeast rice. Their structures and absolute configurations were determined by spectroscopic methods,especially 2D NMR(~1H-~1HCOSY, HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY/ROESY) and CD spectroscopic analyses as well as chemical *** V_2(2) and V_3(3) represent the first examples of monacolins with 3-hydroxybutyrate substitute. The anti-inflammatory inhibitory activities against the lipopolysaccharide(LPS) induced NO production in BV-2 cells as well as antioxidant activities against rat liver microsomal lipid peroxidation were evaluated.

AIM:To summarize our experience in the application of Crurasoft for antireflux surgery and hiatal hernia(HH)repair and to introduce the work of Chinese doctors on this ***:Twenty-one patients underwent HH repair with Crurasoft *** reflux disease(GERD)and HH-related symptoms including heartburn,regurgitation,chest pain,dysphagia,and abdominal pain were evaluated preoperatively and 6mo postoperatively.A patient survey was conducted by phone by one of the *** were asked about"recurrent reflux or heartburn"and"dysphagia".An internet-based Chinese literature search in this field was also *** extracted from each study included:number of patients treated,hernia size,hiatorrhaphy,antireflux surgery,follow-up period,recurrence rate,and complications(especially dysphagia).RESULTS:There were 8 typeⅠ,10 typeⅡand 3 typeⅢHHs in this *** operative time was 119.29min(range 80-175 min).Intraoperatively,length and width of the hiatal orifice were measured,(4.33±0.84and 2.85±0.85 cm,respectively).Thirteen and eight Nissen and Toupet fundoplications were performed,*** intraoperative complication rate was9.52%.Despite dysphagia,GERD-related symptoms improved significantly compared with those before *** recurrence rate was 0%during the 6-mo follow-up period,and long-term follow-up disclosed a recurrence rate of 4.76%with a mean period of *** patients developed new-onset *** Chinese literature review identified 12 papers with213 *** overall recurrence rate was 1.88%.There was no esophageal erosion and the rate of dysphagia ranged from 0%to 24%.CONCLUSION:The use of Crurasoft mesh for HH repair results in satisfactory symptom control with a low recurrence *** dysphagia continues to be an issue,and requires more research to reduce its incidence.

To cope with a highly heterogeneous light environment,photosynthesis in plants can be regulated ***,the majority of studies are carried out with various plants during the vegetative growth *** the reproductive sink improves photosynthesis,we wondered how photosynthesis is systemically regulated at the reproductive stage under a vertically heterogeneous light environment in the ***,changes of light intensity within canopy,chlorophyll content,gas exchange,and chlorophyll a fluorescence transient were carefully investigated at the graining stage of maize under various planting *** this study,a high planting density of maize drastically reduced the light intensities in the lower canopy,and increased the difference in vertical light distribution within the *** the increase of vertical heterogeneity,chlorophyll content,light-saturated photosynthetic rate and the quantum yield of electron transport in the ear leaf(EL) and the fourth leaf below the ear(FLBE) were decreased gradually,and the ranges of declines in these parameters were larger at FLBE than those at *** in the lower canopy were shaded artificially to further test these *** shading(PS) resulted in a vertically heterogeneous light environment and enhanced the differences in photosynthetic characteristics between EL and *** the tassel and top leaves(RTL) not only improved the vertical light distribution within the canopy,but also reduced the differences in photosynthetic characteristics between the two *** together,these results demonstrated that maize plants could enhance the vertical heterogeneity of their photosynthetic function to adapt to their light environment;slight changes of the photosynthetic function in EL at the graining stage under a vertically heterogeneous light environment indicated that the systemic regulation of photosynthesis is weak at the graining stage.

ISSR-Based Molecular Characterization of an Elite Germplasm Collection of Sweet Potato(Ipomoea batatas L.) in China

To determine the genetic diversity and population structure of sweet potato accessions cultivated in China, and to establish the genetic relationships among their germplasm types, a representative collection of 240 accessions was analyzed using inter-simple sequence repeat （ISSR） markers. The mean genetic similarity coefifcient, Nei’s gene diversity, and shared allele distance of tested sweet potato accessions were 0.7302, 0.3167 and 0.2698, respectively. The 240 accessions could be divided into six subgroups and ifve subpopulations based on neighbor-joining （NJ） clustering and STRUCTURE results, and obvious genetic relationships among the tested sweet potato accessions were identiifed. The marker-based NJ clustering and population structure showed no distinct assignment pattern corresponding to lfesh color or geographical ecotype of the tested sweet potato germplasm. Analysis of molecular variance （AMOVA） revealed small but signiifcant difference between white and orange-lfeshed sweet potato accessions. Small but signiifcant difference were also observed among sweet potato accessions from the Southern summer-autumn sweet potato region, the Yellow River Basin spring and summer sweet potato region and the Yangtze River Basin summer sweet potato region. This study demonstrates that genetic diversity in the tested sweet potato germplasm collection in China is lower than that in some reported sweet potato germplasm collections from other regions. Pedigree investigations suggest that more diverse Chinese sweet potato varieties should be formed by broadening the selection scope of breeding parents and incorporating the introduced varieties into future breeding programs.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) is a global pandemic which has caused numerous deaths worldwide. The present study investigated the roles of hypoproteinemia in the clinical outcome and liver dysfunction of COVID-19 patients. In this retrospective study, we extracted data from 2,623 clinically confirmed adult COVID-19 patients(≥18 years old) between January 29,2020 and March 6, 2020 in Tongji Hospital, Wuhan, China. The patients were divided into three groups—non-critically ill,critically ill, and death groups—in accordance with the Chinese Clinical Guideline for COVID-19. Serum albumin, low-density lipoproteins cholesterol(LDL-C), and high-density lipoproteins cholesterol(HDL-C) concentrations and inflammatory cytokines levels were measured and compared among these three groups. The median age of these 2,623 patients was 64 years old(interquartile range(IQR), 52–71). Among the patients enrolled in the study, 2,008(76.6%) were diagnosed as non-critically ill and 615(23.4%) were critically ill patients, including 383(14.6%) critically ill survivors and 232(8.8%) critically ill deaths in the hospital. Marked hypoalbuminemia occurred in 38.2%, 71.2%, and 82.4% patients in non-critically ill, critically ill, and death groups, respectively, on admission and 45.9%, 77.7%, and 95.6% of these three groups, respectively, during hospitalization. We also discovered that serum low-density lipoprotein(LDL) and HDL levels were significantly lower in critically ill and death groups compared to non-critically ill group. Meanwhile, the patients displayed dramatically elevated levels of serum inflammatory factors, while a markedly prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT) in critically ill patients reflected coagulopathy. This study suggests that COVID-19-induced cytokine storm causes hepatotoxicity and subsequently critical hypoalbuminemia, which are associated with exacerbation of disease-associated inflammatory responses and progression of the disease and ultimately
